Maintenance for the week of January 12:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – January 12
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – January 13, 9:00AM EST (14:00 UTC) - 12:00PM EST (17:00 UTC)
Despite all the performance issues, ZOS decided to give a free to play weekend. The result is a more unstable server for regular player.
Was this made on purpose because of wow classic launch ?
So what if it is? Really though it doesn’t matter. If wow classic just launched you think those guys would hop onto ESO after a week of classic? It would’ve been smarter to do the free weekend before classic to grab the player base that would’ve gone to wow if that were the case.
Free weekend because Labor Day? Free weekend because Remnant? Free weekend just because?
Meh, whatever. /shrug
(remember WoW Classic still requires a sub. And I doubt anyone thought there'd be multi-hour login queues. So the idea "let's compete with WoW!" was part of ZOS's planning seems kind of a stretch.)
Ignore me, I ment to say something simple and just rambled on.
I sure believe it is to counter WoW. That is what businesses do. Games on Steam, I buy and then someone comes in and says "look at that other company's game is on sale".
Thing what I don't understand is, why would Zenimax show how bad their servers are? It might actually be advertising for WoW if the game play is smoother their.
As another tid bit, why does ESO have to have free weekends? If $12 is not enough for people to start buying, that does show that ESO is not doing as well as the executives or private share holders like. You don't devalue your main product by saying it's worthless since their "micro transactions" are more than the base game.
Funny, 3 million players is not good enough, they want more. It could also mean that more people leave than more coming in. I guess that just shows you how the name Bethesda or ESO is really not that popular among many gamers.
Not saying ESO is a bad game, I think it's great, but how Zenimax and Bethesda do business lately, peoples just stay away. For me, I stick with ESO since it's basically all I know. I tried other games and Zenimax is the least of the worst. Better with the devil you know than the devil you don't know."
All this shows is Zenimax/Bethesda Softworks are hurting for more players for what ever reason. A game can sell 10 million copies or in Zenimax's case have "thirteen million players" but it is still not good enough because they want more for less, since Zenimax/Bethesda Softworks are not willing to fix issues with the game, so they need new blood for the people that just leave and don't complain. They just leave and don't care anymore.
Now that is a sign for a company or product in trouble. When people don't care. As long as people are upset, angry, complain, it means they still care and are potential customers. When people don't care, it means customers lost.
So Bethesda is trying to soak up the WoW hate going on now, and don't want people to be reminded why they loved so much that they hate now. Zenimax/Bethesda Softworks want people to remember NOW not how it was before so they actually look like the better devil.
Not my quote but I love this saying
"I would pay It for support. But since they choosed we are just numbers and not customers, i dont mind if game and zos goes to oblivion"

Hoping to hook the what the hell I will give it a try crowd. Has zip to do with not doing well and more to do with wanting to do better. MMOs have a fluid player base. ZoS understands players will leave the game for a variety of reasons. To survive those players need to be replaced. An occasional free event is a way to attract new players.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."
