Dying from Slaughterfish while harvesting items (Bug?)

I am currently in Cyrodiil and while fishing I was along the center large large lake that surrounds the Imperial City, I was finding various runestones and other materials to harvest. However many of them are in shallow water (so shallow it might as well be a puddle) and when I attempted to harvest them I would die from Slaughterfish. Is this something that will be fixed in the future because I find it annoying that there are materials that are just impossible to harvest like that.

Those slaughterfish, in that lake, in particular, are nasty. Dipping a toe in that lake is not advised.
As far as I know, it's not a bug.

It's not a bug, and it's unlikely to be changed. I've died that way more than once, and have even gone right back to the same node after resurrecting to try again!

If you're very, very careful, you can walk right up to the puddle's edge (but be ready to back off if you start to get nibbled on) and be close enough to the node to harvest it. But if you aren't close enough then what happens is you automatically take a step forward when you try to harvest the node, resulting in death.

It's planned, but yes, it is slightly ridiculous to be eaten by the slaughterfish in a one inch deep puddle.

They're hungry slaughterfish babies, and the puddle is teeming with them.

ZOS went a bit slaughterfish happy in several areas of Lake Rumare, where the damage area goes right up to the shoreline. I too have died from the fish cause I stepped into an inch of water harvesting a Hyacinth.

I guess I'ts just another new "feature" from ZOS.
As someone who has done MA "just" a few times...
Makes me wonder what the heck they are smoking...
But also not sure I'd want a puff

It's been like that ever since my first visit to Cyrodiil, which would be going on two years ago. I have no idea what it was like before that, though.

Next time, try what I said about creeping up to the very edge of the water, as close as you can get to the node without getting attacked by the slaughterfish. Then, and only then, try interacting with the node. Hopefully you'll be able to harvest it without the fatal "take a step forward to reach the node" animation.

In rare cases, when I either didn't get close enough and ended up stepping forward into the water, or when I stepped into the puddle by accident because I couldn't see the edge very clearly for some reason, I've been able to step backward and break out of the harvesting action as soon as I realized that I was being nibbled on. But usually, once you open up the node with your big toe sticking in the water, it's already too late!
