Destro clench is useless for PVP

It's totally close-combat weapon. And I'm a ranged class (mag sorc). Which means I effectively have 1 slot wasted for something I rarely play due to nature of the class. When all other abilities are working this one is greyed... sigh.

Whoever got this idea at ZOS... it's not fun. Simply put, 15m is not enough.

    Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

    I think it's still really good. I wish the damage was a tad higher but with the changes to dots, it balances out. It's still a really good stun, procs your weapon enchant and it gets 10% bonus spell pen with the passive from the destro line.
    I tested it yesterday and it's amazing.
    I will agree though. A damage nerf and a range nerf was a bit much, but it's still viable.
    I think a slight range buff would be nice, maybe 20m.

    And then what? Play with matches? :D Stun is on the clench now, Reach does absolutely nothing for PVP now. I'd rather use crushing shock.

    it used to be great for knocking enemies through the grates on top of the keeps...

    I miss watching folks fall to their death like that...occasionally a tank would hit the ground and be able to not only survive, but, scramble back inside the keep...

    @Araxleon Damage is ok, stun is ok, but 15m is low... :(

    If you just compare sorc skills and other destro abilities that go up to 41m, 15m is like a joke.

    Knocking enemies from the bridge is/was fun too. :) Not sure it's available now with close-combat range skill. It had to be a surprise to work.

    Knocking enemies from the bridge is/was fun too. :) Not sure it's available now with close-combat range skill. It had to be a surprise to work.

    oh my goodness...i completely forgot about the alessia bridge fights...i picked the covenant alliance to play on - so, haven't visited the bridge in months...i kind of miss bridge fights...as much as i tried - never had the pleasure of sending someone flying over the edge in to the water...

    there should be an achievement for that :)

    Yea, it just doesnt make sense that a staff..a ranged weapon, wich has maximum range...has a skill morph that basicly requires you to be in melee...

    All these sorcerer worried about a ranged CC could simply use their class CC. They ones they should he complaining are the necro and warden, but they are not true ranged, more like mid range. Thus, 15 meter is not too terrible. Atleast it's not melee range. Magblade have to be in melee range to use fear.
    Bottom line is that 15 meters isn't too bad. A nerf for sure, but not too bad.

    Having fear in melee range seems logical. You can't apply the illusion 40meters from you...
    But what olsborg said for staves, it's true. It's not logical. Staves are ranged magical weapons.

    I can't fire at the enemy that is near the wall while I'm standing on the bloody keep...

    Not every skill needs to be useful for PvP, or for any other specific thing. That's why we have so many skills and only 10 skill slots - so we have to think tactically about which skills to slot and when to slot them.

    Front bar streak. It's an unblockable stun that provides mobility. Combo it with meteor etc. You have the best stun in the game right now imo.

    Wow. So I can't expect to killl someone while standing on a wall? You mean that having the high ground shouldn't be an advantage? Or that historically thats not what walls and towers were being used for?

    The nerf to destro staff just destroyed an entire game style for many people. A gamestyle that was fun and rewarding.

    Try playing PVE and see how many of OUR skills have been destroyed due to PVP whining .. stop moaning!

    This is exactly what they wanted to stop. CCing from max range was always stupid, especially if done from keep walls and platforms that melee can't reach.

    Hmm, for me this is like making archers being unable to fire arrows at the enemies from the keep. Melee fighters should not be that close to the wall in the first place, but ranged-weapon guys. The same is true for the guys on the wall. Majority, in fact, should use balistas/oil/meat/etc. anyway.

    As I said, I have no problem with reducing (nerfing) the range of the clench, but 15m is a melee/gap closer range and very low. It's illogical for all other abilities to have 28/41m range, but clench suddenly only firing at 15m.

    Well...if you are a stamina user you may feel that you have many options/skills to choose from but magic only have destruction staff if you mess with a skill like this you are actually changing one of the three direct damage of magicka users in weapon skill tree, stamina users can pick about 15 direct damage skills in weapon tree, for me thats not balance.

    Removing the stun from Destro Reach was a great change. Stunning from 41 meters made it incredibly punishing to close the distance with melee characters.

    It was a brainless way to play. Instant cast, long ranged CC, high damage, and could proc status effects. Just like reverbs on demand major defile it was nerfed for good reason.

    It needed to go! the combo it gave access to was too strong!

    Lost count how many people I killed with a well timed combo and that cc from 28 meters or how many times I been killed because some noob clown was stood 28 meters away spamming that crap while I was having a great 1v1 with someone.

    Its gone, it needed to go, adjust your game play, good players are still effective from range.

    If you cant see how this was a needed change then you don't understand the game.

    It really does suck they took the mag wardens main ranged cc tool away tho. That arctic blast heal/stun (wtf?) is just not viable for pvp.

    Templars? Afaik the standardization didn't hit them.

    Isn't javelin still a 28 meter CC?
