Was there a change of horse/stamina/sprint-run?

howdy folks,

anyone knows why my horse slows down from sprint to normal running speed when it runs out of stamina? it always was that a horse would sprint indefinitely and if it run out of stamina any damage would drop you down, but it would keep sprinting even without any stamina. now it automatically slows down when it runs out (of stamina). was there a change that i have not noticed? 'cause my new character's horse is a pain and i am not spending Crowns to buy the horse upgrades..
