Trolls force closing threads

Dear ZoS, I have been a forum reader for a while now, and one thing I have noticed fairly regularly is players attacking threads that support or suggest ideas that they do not agree with. This generally leads to heated debate, often off topic ones spotted throughout, and always toxic. Inevitably a Mod comes into the thread and closes the thread citing "Spiraling/derailing", and that a thread had become toxic and needed to be closed to prevent people from insulting, baiting, ect. At this point the group of players who do this kind of thing know all they have to do is attack, and the thread disappears before to many people see it, and get any ideas. Is this really how you intend to run the forum? Being pushed into closing popular discussions down because the ESO Forum Mafia is throwing a tantrum in them?

Let me make you an offer, an offer you can't refuse, How about me and you take a little drive by the river, I have a new pair of shoes made from the finest concrete.

They don't close threads just because people post in them that are dumb, they just remind people to be civil.

I think the mods actually like it when they get to shut down threads that are going to not go anywhere because it must be a crap job trying to keep people that will never agree from attacking each other constantly.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

Part of the issue is people who are not stakeholders wanting to be busybodies.
They have no interest in using whatever is proposed, yet they feel the need to suggest unfeasible solutions or raise objections -- because they often have no real understanding of the reason for the suggestion and didn't even put any thought into it.
Just so they can thwart others from making a suggestion that would benefit some people.

You know, I generally find it more helpful to approach the posters who disagree with me as if they are arguing in good faith, and to hope they do the same for me.

And that when most posters disagree vehemently, its genuine. Or they are reasonably fed up with dead-horse threads. Rather than jump to the conclusion that everyone who doesnt agree is attacking others for the purpose of getting the thread closed, you know?

ZOS closes threads that have led a Sinful Life and have not accepted their Lord and Savior Mehrunes Dagon Daedric Prince of Revolution and Change.

this has been what they do since beta for Years.
they do alot more as well.
if they disagree with what Anyone says, they harrass and stalk and make the person look stupid and allways claim that person needs to learn to play.
its against the law, its called online bullying.
i dont know what can be done to stop it but its quite strong on this forum.
all can do is report them and try to wake people up to the reality of it like your doing here, but when you see them doing it, report it, all we can do.

While I generally agree with your sentiment that we should be more cordial, probably don't want to go around saying things are illegal unless you understand what the laws actually say. https://cyberbullying.org/bullying-laws

Just say its a bad look and we should get along, but by saying "it's illegal" you put a whole different spin on it and it brings the discussion basically to a weird place.

I'm not quite sure making someone look stupid would be illegal. Some people even do it unintentionally.

Look I agree there are threads that need closed, but maybe modders should moderate more than close down discussions?

It depends on the topic. For example, when I see a thread about nerfing something or even removing abilty entirely, made clearly by someon who is either new to the game or refuses to learn and find counters, then basically I have only one option : do not participate in discussion not to bump the thread to the top.
And this is something that I would sugest doing. Dont like the thread ? Then let it dissapear & die.
But apparently, some ppl take it to a different level and post wierd stuff, hoping they can "kill off" thread faster that way.

It would be unfortunate if that happened to this thread.

There's some validity to the idea of "ignore it and it will go away."

On the other hand, there's a big flaw with that: the Devs are a largely silent audience on the forums. We have no way of knowing what threads they read and what they take seriously.

Example: Many anti-faction lock players assumed they could safely ignore pro-faction lock threads. They got a nasty surprise when it turmed out that the Devs were lurking all along.

So my philosophy is that its much better to treat most posts seriously and respond with sensible and detailed explanations.

This is especially true for new players and L2Play issues, where even if the OP of the thread doesnt listen, other players will learn something (I often learn something new!) and the Devs can see that the playerbase as a whole doesn't share the same opinion of the problem.

To each their own, of course! Everyone gets to determine their own level of patience with the forums.

Mods here are SJWs and want to make this a safe space. Threads that go against the forum warriors are closed faster than the forum warriors thread. Only reinforcement type threads.
