Maelstrom Arena QoL Suggestion

After all this playtime I only got burning spellweave inferno staff once. Finished city of ash 10+ times in a day to get it with guildmates. Thats 1 in 40+ drops. Ridiculous.
That's well within the rng. Drop rate for a specific weapon (regardless of trait) is 2.2%, so you can "expect" to get a BSW stuff after 45 drops. It's not a guarantee, though and you have to count in variance, so after 45 drops you'r probability to get a BSW stuff is not 100%, it is still 2.2% per drop.

With Maelstrom weapons I think your drop rates are higher, because you don't get jewelry, however, you can't get stuff from group mates. It's definitely worth to get into the weekly leaderboard for a second drop per run, so you should do vma on a character which is able to get in there. I play on PC/EU and on several classes you only need to complete vma at all to get into the weekly leaderboard. So it would be better to do vma on different characters (and get those extra drops from leaderboard) instead of doing it 10 times on the same character (except this character does vma at double the speed).

There is a fair amount of evidence to that suggests the drop rate for each weapon is not the same for each person at the character level. I've posted about this extensively in other threads. It potentially has to do with the seeding of random number generators, etc, etc... If you want evidence yourself calculate the probability of not getting a staff after 250 runs and see what you get. I've seen reports of 500 time which is essentially impossible at almost any level of measurement for something that should happen 1/12th of the time. The seeds appear to resent after 3-6 months so what it looks like is people with no chance of getting a weapon just outplay the reset. So when you so it took 96 runs to get it, I suspect the reason for the drop is the seed reset finally giving you a chance to get it.

Now on to the solution, yes a token system would help to resolve this, but without this your other options are:

    1. Use another character, the seeds are character specific. So your odds will change with a different character
    2. Wait out the seed reset, try again in 3-6 months
    3. Get on the leaderboards, the leaderboard drops appear to use different seed since it come in the mail. This is hard for sorc and NB, but easy for DK, Warden, and templar.

So your best chance is learn it on one of the underutilized classes like Warden or templar and you should get one in fairly short order.

    Hope this helps.

I run vma about 8 times a week on all classes for the leader board mails. I have no shortage of anything from there. In fact, I've deconned more flame staves and bows than I'd like to admit.

My vote is no. No token system. Don't make the single most difficult single player content in any mmo to date a casual fest. Just get in there and get used to it. VMA is a way to test your builds, and your DPS when you only have you to rely on. The more you do it, the better you get.

They give these tokens. They are called transmutation crystals.

Why continue whining on forums after they give cyristals and double drop dual wields? Do you want to get weapons for free too?

    Grow up.

I love the token idea. I was lucky and got the bow, the inferno staff, and the lightning staff in my first 7-8 runs; however I’ve got a lot more stuff to grind for my other characters. It’s already seeming like a chore.

The elitism is SCRONG! with this one.

How would a token system make VMA a casual fest? The majority of players cant even get past the first couple of rounds.
If its a way to test your builds and all that other bs you mentioned why do you even care?

When transmutes can turn an ice staff into an inferno staff you might have a point. Until then you're selfish and extremely near-sighted, thinking QoL is entitlement. Before you go "hurdur, you're mad you never got what you wanted", I have every vMA weapon I want and then some. I'm just not, you know thinking my luck applies to everyone.

You sound like a miserable person. Yeah he wants them for free while he completes the instance, and has terrible luck. Makes sense 🙄

Many people dont want it by saying "go farm as we did before".

I think we could make a "balanced" proposal.

What about a deathless run (or a 30 minutes run) lets you choose weapon (but no trait)? People who get such, deserves not to be farming over and over the place.

Add a condition to make people interested on doing so. Tbh i cba arsed to go for flawless but i admit that if i could go there and choose one weapon that keeps dodging me, maybe, id go for it. (not my example, got every weapon but Lightning and cba to farm it more for it).

I'd prefer a system where instead of running vMA for tokens, there is a chance of dropping a vMA weapon unlock.

The vMA weapon unlock is permanently unlocked to your account in a new tab similar to outfits. Any character on your account can equip it from the tab, and enchant it how they see fit. (The unlock is universal, the enchant is not)

Once you have unlocked a weapon, say a vMA Bow - Decisive, it may not be the trait you want, but the vMA Bow - Decisive is removed from the loot table, a vMA Bow decisive trait, nor the vMA Bow decisive trait weapon unlock will not drop again. (Weapon unlocks, cannot be transmuted, they just auto bind to account on pick up, as is)

The more weapons you unlock, the better your odds get.

This means people that actually enjoy running vMA have something to work towards, and also those that don't enjoy it can progressively increase their chances of getting the weapon they actually want as they knock items out of the loot table.

If you manage to collect every weapon in every trait, well, it certainly would take a while, but the game just rewards you with Nirnhoned trait items, 3, randomly either Fortified or Potent when completing vMA.

Especially if you take into consideration that weeklies are a thing and they give you an extra reward.

Nope. I had a guildie who ran it over 80 time for the bow. And I've got another one getting up there to try and get the inferno staff.

And im sure they tell you 100% the truth and you kept track of every single run they did and theyre definitly not BSing and overexaggerating.
The probabilties of that are in the .5% range and for you to know two people is even less likely.

I actually had a spreadsheet I kept track. It was drop 52 for me to get a bow. I was running a minimum of 4 characters on the leaderboard for weeks.

There is absolutely no evidence of that.

Please don't spread this misinformation about the "seed" theory.

All actual evidence with enough sample sizes points to equal drops between all the weapons in vMA given a big enough sample size.

40 runs and no inferno smells like bs.
At least you just need to drop 1 inferno in any trait and youre set forever.
Imagine how it was before trait changing and when you had 500 CP to distribute less.

Friend of mine kept track of his vma drops, by the time he did 40 runs he got every weapon-type at least twice.

Dont wanna embed the first 40 drops as it would be a long list, but if youre interested here you go: https://i.imgur.com/ZMW6tzh.png

Not disagreeing, just adding my own info to these drops:

I did vMA for the first time for the double drop Wrothgar event. (Got through it first try, got no death on my fifth run) and I did it a total of 21 times through the week for a total of 42 drops +3 from leaderboard rewards, so I had 45 drops in vMA.

I got 7 DW (mix of all types swords/dagger/axes/maces), 9 Sword and Board, 4 Battle Axes, 2 Mauls, 3 Bows, 2 Ice Staves, 7 Fire Staves, 4 Lightning Staves, 7 Resto Staves. (Traits I didn't keep track of, but only maybe 4 total drops won't need to be transmuted if used).

I mean, when it first came out people weren't even guaranteed a vma weapon to be dropped.. Now it is a guarantee and they tuned up the destruction staff drops to be more in line with the other weapons, so idk what more you could want. The arena is easily completed in 30 -35 minutes.
