There are ways to get through skill lines extremely fast, you really don't need to have the option to expend crowns on them.
How, pray tell, does one level Mages Guild “extremely fast” on console, with no access to addons, and on alts that barely have any wayshrines discovered? I’d be really interested to find out how, so you could save me some money.

I meant, if they allowed us to purchase dyes of hard to unlock achievements... just the dyes... that would tempt me, fashion-wh... uhm... conscious person that I am when it comes to my characters.
Like for example, a load of those PvP locked dyes... I suck at the PvPness, so I -would- be tempted to pay for those if I could...

Play the game? I feel like this is obvious.
The books are literally laying around everywhere. I can't believe I'm having to say this about a video-game but pick up a book sometime? Or just google a map and then hunt them close to wayshrines, it only takes 1/3 of the books in each base game zone to get to 10.

I’m kind of annoyed that this system didn’t launch with Elsweyr. I definitely would have coughed up the cash to bypass the Undaunted grind on my necro. There’s a week of my life I won’t be getting back any time soon...
it’s going to be awesome for my alts, though. I only have two characters with maxed out Mages Guild, and one character with maxed out Psijic Order. Grinding those skill lines out is a royal pain on console.
Anyone crying over this being “P2W” is welcome to try grinding out MG on multiple characters without access to the lorebooks addon. Bet you’ll barely have the patience to max it out on one character, let alone six.

I’m a PVPer. I don’t do overland PVE unless I absolutely have no other choice, so telling me to “play the game” is a bit of a pointless suggestion. This is an example of what I have to look at to level Mages Guild on console:
When I need to find a specific book, I have to go back and forth between squinting down at my phone and manually placing markers on my map in game (which is a frustrating process on console, as the cursor tends to snap to the closest point of interest when you’re trying to mark a nearby area). Then, when I get there, I have to spend several moments finding the exact coordinates of the lorebook, because these maps online aren’t overly detailed, nor are they zoomed in all the way. They provide a general approximation of where the book is located, at best. And I have to do this for ten painstaking levels. On every magicka character.
Believe me, if levelling Mage’s Guild was as “extremely fast” as you claim it is, I wouldn’t only have the skill line maxed on two characters.
Bravo, ZOS, for eliminating this aggravating grind and making it easier for me to spend time doing what I actually want to do: wreck face in BGs and Cyrodiil.

But I do think a lot of the backlash is coming from the fact that it's crowns and not-in-game gold required to purchase the skill lines. Players have been asking for these sort of quality of life improvements for a long time, so for them to finally implement it as a naked cashgrab is pretty off-putting to a lot of players. If ZOS did something like making each skill line purchasable (once you have it fully unlocked on one character) for something like 100k gold on each new character, there wouldn't really be many complaints about it, except for maybe newer players who aren't the target demographic for this change anyways. I'm personally not angry about this, but I am disappointed, and it did diminish my respect for ZOS slightly.
