How many players will really leave game with next patch?

  • Fenrook

The question is: how many are going to be on PTS today?

I probably will. Need to retest that new build with the patch in place, see how it functions post patch.

I've just been playing Final Fantasy 14, and checking forumd /patch notes and ESO guild discords for updates. Looks like I'll keep playing the new Shadowbringers expansion instead of coming back to ESO.

So this would make ppl leave, but the appauling performance of the servers (pvp specially) the last full year (and before that too) would not? hmkay..

I agree with this tbh. I left around the past undaunted event since performance was getting worse and let 3 months of ESO+ just run out. Only came back a few days ago to see if things were any better

    It doesn't matter.

What matters is that some newbies will buy a copy and keep the sales counter ticking. Those that have already spent can stay or go.
From everything that I see, that is the ZOS marketing philosophy.

I think people preaching that there was always going to be loss, or that this happens every time spamming all threads with this nonsense are clearly downplaying the changes. This isn't a simple bugfix, nor is it just another patch. This is the largest by far change to ESO to date. Every class and how the way most play in the game are effected. Sets they farmed, spec, and everything related to that MUST be changed. It is not an option.

The problem with crunching MMO's player base is dying always seems to be a very gradual effect. Hell even when bless online announced it's cancellation there were still just as many logging in like a typical week according to a mod I talked to.

With -any- MMO historically one day you wake up and realize there is just less and less. I was on another MMO for the first time in awhile that I shall not name and I heard a new term ESO-Survivors in zone chat. It's not so much that ESO get's it wrong, but what others are doing right.

Downplaying issues and acting like it's "same ol' same ol'" is exactly what all dead MMOs have in common. You cannot say that after this patch, not this one. You are doing everybody including yourself a disservice.

I think of it as a vacation. When this nonsense hits live, however much it's walked back, I'll turn off my 5 year sub, go play some WoW Classic where I know the gameplay isn't changing randomly every patch, and in 6 months or a year see if ESO is still here, new guy has quit trying to change the world or has got fired, and the game has come back to sanity; or if it's completely unplayable by then. 50/50 odds.

there's a vocal minority of people who were going to quit no matter what was on the patch notes, even if it was just 'scalebreaker is now live and we fixed some performance issues have a nice day guys" they'd still be spewing hateful vitriol all over the forums and everywhere they touch in game because it's what makes them happy. every game has it.

in terms of people who matter, probably not many.

    Lmao

    That’s some reach there

If the game was improving people would wanna stay. When they insist on nerfing everyone while also not fixing anything, people obviously don’t wanna stay on board the sinking ship

First, taking a break is not leaving the game. I have taken a break.

One thing we know is many like to talk up they will quit because of changes but few of them actually do. Even those I know who have said so and did leave the game had RL things that were the driving factor. It was just easy to blame it on changes in the game.

^ This is what I'm talking about. Not just chicken little crying the "The Skyrim is falling". In this patch, a small piece of the Skyrim has fallen. It won't kill the game but the fact that Wow Classic launches August 27 may have some impact here. Not saying players won't be back. The key is that I have seen more players confirm they have canceled their subs. If ESO was in just good (not perfect) working order, this wouldn't have that much effect. As I see players on alot of my discord channels chim in about playing other games with no problems.

    "ESO-Survivor" - interesting term indeed.

Well, dogs that bark don't bite, right? So my guess would be not many, if at all.
I mean it's the usual panic making that happens every patch, there is still a full PTS ahead and some pretty decent and informative threads about the most crucial and not desired changes, so I wouldn't be too negative.

So many changes it is really hard to say how it will all play out right now. For me, I have 1 character. 1 is all I have time for. If that character is not fun to play anymore then I am done.

Leave? Nah, at least not until (and if) we get the Cyberpunk MMO. I just won't be spending any more money with ZOS (either in the store or as part of ESO+). Doesn't mean I'm not going to get my money's worth out of this game though. I'm still going to play the content I already own.

And no, before the straw-man army comes barging in waving flags of "they claim the sky is falling" or some other disingenuous hyperbolic crap meant to distract us from the actual issues we have and turn the conversation away from the merits of the game and towards the merits of the player, it's not just about this patch. It's about the continuing trends I've seen these past two years that I cannot, in good conscience, fund.

I think it's easy for people on this forum to paint everyone as an angry QQ'er, instead of what most of us are - disappointed and done spending money.

We’ve had a fairly active discussion in game and on our discord, but no one that I actually know in game is planning to leave.

I’ve seen plenty of QQing here on the forum, but the forum cries about everything. I would say about half the people I play with like the proposed adjustments and the other half just accept them.

Not played since October, I play the forum game while bored and give Antonio a run around. Hes on me like white on rice. Think the kid was bullied in school now has some power.

Anyway this game is bad glad I quit, keeps getting worse i see. Never understood complaining about the game so much then logging back in. Why do something that makes you mad and not fun?

Oh well and yes you can have my stuff if you find my toon roaming around as a npc sure he will give it to you.

People who was already kind of bored or pissed off by other stuff might drop.

However doing an hard nerf during an dungeon dlc is an bad idea as the nerf is so visible.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

The changes to combat mechanics don't really concern me. Or rather, it is overshadowed by how this game is sliding further and further down the pay-to-win spectrum in ways that I'm having a harder and harder time ignoring. I love this game, but the hells if I am okay with the increasingly depauperate methods being used to monetize it. This game has been my sole exception to the usual rule of never supporting games that monetize themselves unscrupulously. That, because of the quality of the writing and the storytelling.

And given I can enjoy that writing and storytelling without a subscription or crown packs, it may be that it's time to stop giving any more money to these developers. If I knew 100% of my money was going only to the people who do the writing and the art, that'd be one thing. But it is also going to these scum in marketing who thought it was okay to put skyshards and skill lines in the cash shop. And $#*%$ those guys.

I don't think there will be a mass exodus, but I do expect there to be fewer healers available, and that in turn will affect endgame play and random dungeon finders, just as it did to another popular mmo*)
