Know what really annoys me?

Know what annoys me zenimax? Being auto added into voice chat channels every other day.
Why is this a thing? Some of us stay outside of chat channels for a reason. Not to mention 1am isn’t the best time to be forced into chats without a headset on. Can we not get some kind of toggle where we get to decide to be randomly added into chat channels every other day or to stay out of channels when we want to instead? Saves us from having to manually leave the channels every other day or at least ditch the 6 second leave delay.

And it’s not just on one character either, it happens on every. Single. Character. You have say 10 characters, that’s 10-20 (20 for guild and area, 10 for just area) times you gotta go through waiting 6-12 seconds leaving chats you never consented to in the first place.

Is this a console thing? Gods, that would be far beyond annoying. My condolences, OP.

I played one game with build in voice and it was annoying. iirc it only worked when grouped with someone and that was only random GF groups for me.

Most of the chatter was not game related and was just mindless rambling from less than stellar minds. The rest was often from people who barked orders with no authority. Anyone who kept talking I just put on mute because they did more of a disservice than anything else.

I feel for those on console.

No. It really is a bad feature. And some zones are worse than others. Nothing like popping into a wayshrine to hear "ni**r, ni**r, ni**r, ni**r, ni**r" over and over again. VC zone chat is truly vile. I honestly thing the game would be better off with just private channel chat - groups and guilds only.

edit: but it isn't consistent. Sometimes I go a long time without vc automatically turning on. Other times, it's every time zone changes.

Yeah, you can leave the chat channel, but for some reason it makes you wait several seconds. And funny enough, if you get a little lag and hit the button twice due to it not reacting right away, you put yourself right back in - I just did that a couple times yesterday. For some reason you basically get a deserter penalty for doing this, so it takes twice as long to leave every time you go in/out. It's really silly - like why make somebody way 3s to leave vc and then 6s if they go in right away again?

You could just mute vc entirely (at least on xbox you can mix the volume all the way down just for vc), but then you can't use it for dungeon or pvp groups, which is its only useful function.

Yeah, true, but sometimes there's gold. Like the dude in Cyro one day who was beside himself with rage that a group of yellow wouldn't come through a hot door breach and attack, so we could take our home keep back.

Or the occasional guy who is completely off chops just singing to himself.

Ugh. So micromanaging. What on earth were they thinking?

Well, I suppose they were thinking that everyone wants to talk to everyone all the time. Ugh. There's a reason I don't do consoles - or MS much. I get security updates for win 10. That's it. I don't EVER download the actual OS updates - because they put in stuff to make sure the auto-EVERYTHING updates that I have disabled are no longer viable.

Yeah.... 10 works much faster than 7 - and 7 is not supported for much longer. So - 10 it is. An older version (about end of 2015) for which the only updates I allow are security.... I have a lovely little app that MS itself made available which means I can tell auto-update NOT to download stuff.

    Works for me.

What I really want is a linux that has a front-end like windows, and that isn't like DOS 3.0 to use. I gave up command line for a reason.... Thing is, the minute I met win 3.0 (yeah.... that long ago....) it was like "OMG - THIS is how computers are supposed to work!" And win 3.0 was buggier than any anthill.... but it still was MAGNITUDES better than DOS command line....

win 10 allows you to run a linux shell with access to the windows file system. It's still windows, but the linux environment is the real deal. I think that's the opposite of what you're looking for though. I use linux for utility applications and only want shell access, so I actually kind of like the embedded thing ms does.

Yeah, I have a couple good friends who use it that way. But you're right, it's not what I want. I want a native linux OS which looks and acts like win 10,

I truly do not want to return to command line - or to an OS which expects me to log in with admin privs every time I need to copy a folder - and doesn't give me the option to "always allow" admin. Is that more secure? Probably. But I've had a computer since 1984 (late to the party by some metrics, yes) and I've been online since 1993 - I've never had a virus or malware. I know how to prevent that. And I don't appreciate an OS that refuses to let me do with my own machine/OS exactly what I wish.

In fact, I have a very good friend who uses linux - until he wants to play games. And then he boots into windows - because while linux (under WINE) will run the games, as he puts it "the absolute *** (yeah I know that's getting censored *sigh*) that I have to go through, the hoops I have to jump through.... it's just a waste of my time" etc.

So yeah. I just want to get rid of microsoft - but I'm not really interested in micromanaging linux. Um.... no - NOT doing mac.

I'm with you on mac. I did try to go linux for a while years ago and still use a gui linux vm for development work, but there is just not anything that gives you what ms does on the interface side. Had to go back. Linux is better for quite a lot, but not if you have to click on stuff.

Yeah.... I was afraid you'd say that. I keep talking, keep hoping the next "linux guy" will say - oh this is the one!

*sigh* It's not going to happen. And I'm going to hate windows for the rest of my life. Ah crap. No that's not true. Windows works fine as long as you don't let it auto update (using bandwidth I don't have, and adding stuff I don't want) - I just do NOT want MS deciding to mess with my OS. Thing is.... yes I have a single machine license - but if I allow them to fully update - then I have a "renewable single machine license" for which I will have to pay every year.

    Nope. Ain't hap'nin.

I never played on console but my nephew did on his PS4. I was like "Why do I hear people talking?" he said they have auto voice chat. I didn't see a txt chat box, so I guess console can't talk via typing with a keyboard or controller? That sounds awful, this is up there with them not giving a warning to leave a guild or not. On PC I've seen so many people leave guild because they hit x on accident. Why the hell did they make these decisions?

@Shadow_Akula You might want to check your settings. When I recently switched my privacy settings on my xbox account to more strict/private, it completely took away the text chat in ESO (didn't show in the social menu at all) and disabled voice chat as well. I couldn't figure out what the heck happened to area text chat until I remembered I adjusted my privacy because of random message spam from accounts I didn't know.

I am never auto-added to VC in ESO, and I believe it's because I have it set where only friends can add me to chat/parties. Your console settings absolutely affect the social stuff in ESO, so fiddle around with the settings until its the way you prefer. :)

being a console player, I feel this pain. We can mute players voice, but then when we group and need to hear people have to go put it back on every.single.****ing.time. When I started playing I once searched for a full hour in every corner of the game interface, and there is absolutelly no option to prevent the game to put you in the zone group chat. OP says its random, I personally get put back in voice chat every time I log in on any character. If I log out and in, they put me back. This annoy the crap out of me. Having *** playing their mindless bad rap at full sound, having people insulting others, people moaning, people being smartasses, people straight up just putting annoying sounds on their speackers because they enjoy being as*holes. This is a problem. Every single *** day I have it. The only exception I found to it is when I'm in a playstation chat lobby, since my console has a setting that prioritise it over in-game communication. But then, again, if I need to talk to a group Im in, I gotta go into PS menus to leave the lobby, and sometimes it break the in-game chat and I have to close/re-open the game. The whole voice chat system is broke on console. Idk what it looks like on PC, but we often, verry often experience issues where people can't join a voice chat and end up having to quit the group, log off, close the game, close their console (not resting mode, closing), then open it up after a lil while cause right away doesnt work, then go back into game, get invited and pray that it'll work. Most of time it doesn't. They really need to work on that, it's bad, real bad

Wow wasn’t expecting any responses, thought this would be lost to the threads...

Um let’s see what I can respond to...
    1. Yes it is a console issue, and we do have text chat, just takes an age to type without a keyboard or phone app
    2. I do not think changing settings to strict is not an option for me, I am a co-leader of a guild and need comms completely open to receive messages from Guild members not on my friends list if they need something (unless Microsoft changed things in the latest UI update I wouldn’t receive messages outside my friends on strict)
    3. Muting VC again I can’t do, while most of the time I use party chat anyway, some of my guilds still run in normal VC and changing settings everytime would be just as annoying...
    4. Zacuel’s face annoys me

There that’s the main things covered I think... To be honest if this doesn’t happen on PC then there shouldn’t be a reason for it on console imo.

get into infinite joining or leaving chat loops

The only time I'm forced into a voice chat is in, or after, a battleground match.
And I'm talking about in game, not the PSN group voice channels.

Other than that, I've never automatically been placed in voice. Not running dungeons, or trials, or joining Cyrodiil....not unless I ran a BG first and forgot that voice was on.
Even then, it's just a matter of going into the voice menu and pushing ■, all while feeling silly I forgot to do that after exiting my battleground.

    Sounds annoying.

There's this one person in Elden Root..I'd love to say his name, but can't for naming/shaming reasons.
He purposely dies to guards and literally lies dead all day, so he can blast horrible music in voice. No joke...he does nothing else ALL DAY.

It was humorous at first, but now it's just a reminder to turn off voice.

I feel bad for the dude now. Imagine, having nothing better to do with your day than to lay around for however long, doing nothing but your best to be annoying.

I sometimes forget to turn my headset’s volume down before going to Vulkel Guard and then nearly jump out of my chair because the loud music/idiotic trash talking startles me. Occasionally I’ll find gems, like the genuinely fantastic rapper in VG or the lady singing the Skyrim theme in Lilmoth like a pro, but usually it’s just edgelords trying to get a rise out of people.

Which is to say I really wish I could just opt out of all the channels and join if and when I feel like it.

Reminds me of Sea of Thieves. Voice chat is one for everyone by default. So generally speaking my experionce with voice chat in that game was "Ah ah you suck, loser !" and 10 seconds later "cheater ! I'm reporting you !". From the same obnoxious kid with a high pitch voice.

Generally speaking I play to chill. I may be listening to music at the same time. Or I may be talking with my wife, who is also playing, with me or not. So basically, any "voice chat required" thing means I'll give the middle finger and move away. And that's even more annoying for those with hearing issues.

Ok I have never had this on console.

I join voice chat when in group but then when leave the group the voice chat stops.

Maybe if you need to communicate with your guild, keep it switched to one of your guild channels & that might stop it? Just an idea.
