Does new ToS ban gifting crown store items for gold?

@ZOS_GinaBruno Does new ToS ban gifting crown store items for gold?

Can we get clarification on this please.

"ZeniMax prohibits, and does not recognize any purported, transfers, sales, gifts, or trades of Virtual Currency." I suppose that means the actual currency and not the items in the crown store that can be gifted.

Since they allow gifting of CS items, I don't think this statement is referring to that.

I suspect what this is referring to is indeed gifting someone a CS item in exchange for in-game gold. It doesn't sound like they're banning it, just that they won't recognize it and therefore won't help you resolve it if you get scammed. That's my take, anyway.

I agree. I think ZoS grew tired of support tickets from players who dealt with strangers on gifting.

Don't worry about weather it's allowed or not, use the store or have others use it for you. The money made helps to keep things running, maybe not in the best of ways, but running none the less.

I agree it has been asked and answered numerous times over the past years. But it has not been answered since the ToS was updated today. Companies change policy all the time. I just want to make sure it is still ok.

I think this is just to make them not responsible for helping you in case you get scammed for crowns/gold.

Probably this. ZOS likely introduced gifting as a way for friends to help friends. They realize people will also "trade" favors, whether it a trial carry of a crown gift, in exchange for gold and there's not a whole lot they can do to stop the practice. (Not without breaking key game features anyways.) So they're washing thier hands of responsibility. If you engage in this practice and get scammed, you are on your own.

Not true, they gave a complete answer last time this came up. Crown gifting in exchange for gold was allowed as per Gina’s responses

Nothing in that statement suggests Zos has changed their stance on what is permitted with trading in game related to crown store items.

If anything it says they are not responsible for the risks you choose to take when gifting crown store items in trade for in game gold. To me it would seem obvious they would not want responsibility since it occurs outside of any game system they have built.

To that end, and a different subject, we should be able to just sell the items via a guild trader. Whatever they want us to be able to gift should be unbound instead of this elaborate gifting system. Much more straight forward.

This is the answer that was provided to the question "Can we trade Crown Store gifts for game gold?"

To clarify, trading an in-game item for other in-game items is allowed; trading in-game items for real-world money or other out-of-game items is strictly prohibited.

    Gold = in game item
Crown store items = in game item

Trading in between in game items = allowed

Therefore trading gold for crown store items (DLCs, crafting motifs, furnishings etc) is perfectly fine.

Not only has Gina answered the question definitively, she is actually present on the Discord server for the Tamriel Crown Exchange. I'm pretty sure she wouldn't stay parked there if it was against the rules.

Nope. They clearly state they don't allow you to trade *the currency*, not currency-bought items. Crown store gifting is enabled by ZOS themselves, if they didn't want people to exchange gifts for gold they could simply disable gifting. Also, it does sound like they're banning those exchanges, as that is the meaning of "prohibit".

Anyway, give it time. You'd be surprised what developers do with in-game transactions as time goes by. Think of a star's life span: first it burns all the hydrogen, then helium, then heavier elements, then it blows up or collapses, depending on its mass :p (can you tell I'm not a supporter of the Clown Store?)

They should just let us list giftable items in guild stores. I’d prefer that. No hustle required.

The line states they prohibit the trading of virtual currency. Gifting items from ingame store in exchange for gold is not trading virtual currency. Ingame trading of gold and items is obviously still allowed (or else this line could be interpreted as prohibiting all trade in the game... which would obviously be insane). But yeah I understand the confusing, because it isnt clear cut to understand that trading gold for store items is still allowed.

Corporations usually have a legal department that are pretty high up in the hierarchy and if they deem that there should be implemented more legal mumbo jumbo it will usually be so if they say so. It doesnt actually have to be important or of significance, sometimes the legal high-dude just basically almost decrees these things for whatever reasons he/she has, usually answering directly to the CEO. Of course I have no idea how ZOS works, but I do know how many other large corporations work especially with legal departments.

What Im tryijng to say is that contrary what one might suspect, it does not necessarily have to have any significance at all.

Hey I agree it probably is okay, but I think OP is right to ask and get it in black and white that it's still okay, when the TOS seems confusing on the topic.
