Is cloak useless suddenly? Like, as soon as the animation is finished playing the effect ends, like WTF?

    For low level characters without the passive, you will have 1 second of cloak. There is a passive that will increase the duration now, but for lowbies, you're out of luck.

    At (Shadow skill line) level 39 and 50, you can put points in the passive. Up until then, it's one second.

    Yes, survival/damage tools as a stealthy blade now seems out of sync for lowbies. I have switched to the healing morph on my -39 lowbie blades.

    But it's not about skill rank, it's about a passive, which is about making them stronger, not just making them usable. It's literally useless to have a 1 second ability like this.

    And before somebody gets any smart ideas, I play ALL classes and only now noticed because I don't play my NBs all too often. Of all the class skills, this is the only skill that requires a late game passive just to be useable.

    The OP has a point though, it's pretty useless until it's completely maxed out. Normally skills are at least useful as you level it... and they should be, so I would say something is out of whack here.

    It's justified because it makes you go get more skyshards to replace the ones you spent developing the passive?

    Part of the game mechanic is keeping you spending accumulated resources so you have to keep adventuring to earn more.
    The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

    Nah my NBs are either argonian or khajiit, I don't really care about racial passives, I just think a skill being totally useless until you get a certain passive is dumb as hell.

    Exactly, they are at least of SOME use, they may not be great but they are at least useful, but cloak is totally useless unless you just mash the button like crazy, drain your magicka like a rock and still not get to where you're heading.

    Isn't it a sad state of affairs when just playing a class in the game has to come with a caveat like this?

    Play what you enjoy, and let them be salty! Don't apologize for playing something provided by the game itself..

    The effect of the dark veil passive on shadow cloak/disguise does seem a bit out of wack. Normally passives boost skills or the class overall by a small amount, but this is case it is a tripling of duration for the skill.

    So it effectively makes shadow cloak/disguise useless for new characters until they are fully levelled, potentially leading to bad experiences for new players (or experienced players that like to slowly level while questing or pvping in Mulaamnir) who want to play stealthy.

    Because they hate Nightblades. The current lead of the combat team is the former PvP team, and I dare say he's playing favourite.

    Cloaking ? Forget about that. Assassination ? Your top skill in that line is now a tanking skill. Enjoy.

    Best way to make sure no one will play the class in PvP and makes it easier for those sore losers is twofold :

    - Nerf it to high heavens so long time players will play something else
    - Make playing a new one as funless as possible to make sure new players won't bother leveling one.
