The best one would be a lighthouse on a cliff where it's constantly raining. Boy what would I pay for this...

Old Mistveil Manor. Best medium house imo. Not too big and not too small. Cozy yard and nice architecture, close to Riften and its shine.
It's more expensive than sleek Creek, but it is worth it.

    1kk? No! I can't pay for it!

Autumn's Gate is a decent cheap alternative to Mistveil.

That is one of the nicer medium houses and was the first primary residence I made until I could afford a bigger house.

    Sleek Creek House
Sleek Creek was my first purchase and it is still my favourite.

One of my guildies bought it too, and she made a loft inside, and then a deck out the back door so she can look at the traffic in Rawl'kha.

I absolutely loved Hundings Palatial Hall and had it as my main place for a long time.

Tonnes of space for a Classic home and looks super cool. There's loads of extra space you can create by building a pathway to the roof, too. There's also a load of ocean around - I had loads of fun creating an island.

It depends on your preferences ofc, but this place is like a tropical paradise of endless proportions.

Side note: I'd also recommend getting some furniture packs for trees/plants - this really transformed the place more than anything else I did

Between Mournoth and Sleek Creek, Sleek Creek for sure. The traders, outlaws refuge, writ hub and amenities there win by miles. Though if you already have a main city home and location isn't important, Mournoth may be better if you're planning on furnishing since it's quite a bit larger (though it has no water, and is quite dark inside).

Since you don't want to spend money on a large home, the best small homes are Snugpod (best location but no garden); Black Vine Villa (2nd best location with a garden); as well as Twin Arches and Autumn's Gate (worse locations but good value).

Amongst the medium homes, Sleek Creek is the ultimate best; Grymheart's Woe and Cliffshade have good locations but no gardens; Ravenhurst and Velothi Reverie have bad locations, small gardens, but good interiors; and Mournoth and Ald Velothi have good gardens and interiors, but fall short on location. The rest aren't really contenders because they have either pathetic interiors for a medium house (like the Ample Domicile) or have no point (.e.g. House of the Silent Magnifico - there's an inn room if you want a house in Sentinel, and there's Twin Arches if you want a Redguard house, both cost less).

I would argue that imperial small home is better then black vine villa. I LOVE black vine villa, it was the very first house i bought and decorated, but small imperial home is actualy inside the city limits, unlike Villa, that is farther away. (and it has larger garden) of course, villa is also 20k cheaper, but i honestly think better proximity and especially larger garden is worth it.
I can certainly see your point to an extent! I didn't consider Cyrodillic Jungle House because the interior is smaller than some inns (way smaller than Snugpod as well), and its garden isn't all that large either. I suppose the technicalities will be up to people's personal tastes.

from comparison (I have both houses, and in terms of role-play characters they belong to are friends and visit each other often) - Cyrodilic house definitely has a much larger garden, I would say probably twice as large as Villa (cause I built 2 full outdoor areas in it, something I couldn't do anywhere to that extent in Villa) and the house might seem small at first, but its roomier than it may first seem and you can build up to a second floor almost as well as with Villa. so IMo it really comes down to the style, size of the garden and whether you want to spend extra minute riding to wayshrine :P

The Ample Domicile is both ample and close to the best crafting area in ESO. It’s like living in a sweet apartment complex where you don’t have to own any of your own appliances.

Exorcised Coven Cottage for these reasons: No loading screen when you go in and out of the home; its cozy yet has outdoor space for gardens/craft stations; and close to a wayshrine. It is easy to make this home a beautiful oasis ...just get rid of the dead trees & plants, then create your beautiful landscape! Even has a tiny water area that you can dress up and personally I love this home.

What's the cheapest with the best location that also lets you sell/launder your stolen goods with zero chance of guard aggro?

    Snugpod.

Close to crafting stations, undaunted quest givers, the master writs guy, mages and fighters guilds, fence, wayshrine and stable.

If you have a bounty, port to the pod, walk out the door, jump down from the ramp and get to the fence by swimming on the lake.

    Mournoth Keep
Mournoth Keep is my personal favourite. I think Sleek Creek is probably more convenient because it's right by a town, but Mournoth is prettier. I didn't realise until I started previewing houses and thinking about how I'd decorate them that I really wanted a nice outside space, but I love what I've done with it now it's nearly finished.

Join a good guild, with a fully stocked guild house, don't try to collect all the stations or useful stuff in your own home costs a fortune and a lot of time.

If your looking for a place to decorate, for role play reasons, all I can say is use the previews have a browse of the houses both with and without furniture. Most houses cost considerable amounts of gold/achievements to unlock/or large amount of crowns. A house should never be a quick purchase in this game, its a late game money sink, both to buy and decorate.

You don't need a house, you don't even need the inn rooms unless your short on storage and need somewhere to place the house storage chests.

    Mournoth Keep
The only thing wrong with Mournoth Keep is that it can get very, very, very dark inside. I used like a quarter of the slots just for lighting. Very large inside tho, and spacious outside.

That is a downfall, but I've used some powerful lighting to make it nice. It is still a little dark in some places, but I feel like that is the way it should look.

    Sleek Creek House
In that size category, those two, plus Twin Arches are the ones I like. Mournoth has the closer Wayshrine, but Sleek Creek has the proximity to everything else in Rawl'Kha. If you're the "craft at home" kind of player. Mournoth has more space for that, but at Sleek Creek, you can just pop into town and use the public ones.

For a thief, Sleek Creek beats all other homes. You almost have your own private entrance to the Refuge.

Since I have all three, I note that I'm most likely to leave characters at Sleek Creek, because of Mount training, daily crafting writs, etc. that can't be done at your own home. Characters that have progressed past the need for those are more likely to use Mournoth, or Twin Arches, but other locations like Snugpod, for easy Undaunted dailies, start to get considered.

I now have ten characters (one of each race) each with a race-appropriate home, plus the inn rooms, and a Hunding's Palatial Hall for the whole team to use.

Keep playing, and get them all!

If you have the Imperial Edition then a good choice is the Cyrodillic Jungle House. It's 71k, and has a decent courtyard area, where you can place stations and dummies. It exits to the Bandaari Trading Post in Malabal Tor, right in front of the wayshrine, and there are guild trading kiosks, merchants, and a stable master, all in a small radius around the shrine. The style of the house is Imperial/Breton (which is easy to decorate as Breton recipes are not as expensive as other styles, should you wish to stick to the style of the house), and has 100 item slots (200 with ESO+), more than enough for its space.

I haven't seen either house in your poll. But the criteria I use to choose houses is pretty simple. Inside, I like to have a fireplace. Fireplaces cheer the darkness of the houses, IMO. Next, does the interior have more than one room (or a second level)? If not, is it more than just your default square/rectangle shape and how well can I break the space up into individual areas using rugs, furniture, and dividers? Finally, does the house have a yard or courtyard? Some of the very expensive houses do not, surprisingly. Fireplace, breakable into individual spaces for different purposes, exterior space, yes. Any of these missing, no. If two prospects both have all the criteria, I consider what I can make or afford to decorate with and how well will it fit in the space.

I voted other, because I really enjoy my little Snugpod. For the money, it has a lot of bang for it's buck:
    • You can sit at your front door and there is a mount trainer and thieve's den within spitting distance
    • Wayshine, repec stations, Undaunted, cooking fire, major trading vendors are very close
    • Full crafting amenities not too far
    • If you like the idea of being part of a living, breathing massive tree, it's kinda cool in itself
