Looking for an up to date explanation on stats.

Lot of sites I am finding through google are out of date, and the mods I can find don't seem to show what I am looking for.

I want the numbers that show up in my stat window to mean something. Like Spell Damage. It has a number next to it. It says it affects damage. By how much? Flat increase? Percentage increase?

Same for things like Physical Resistance. What percentage of damage is being mitigated by what I have?

Can't know what champion points to spend or what gear to hunt if the game is hiding the mechanics from me.

    Overall: UESP.

Google eso skill coefficients to see exact damage of skills (TLDR: almost everything scales as spell damage x 10 + max magicka, analogously for stamina)

Major savagery / prophecy gives 10% additional crit. Do the math.

    As for mitigation etc:

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/279426/damage-mitigation-explanation-updated-for-morrowind-new-calculator/p1

TLDR: 660 resistance is 1% mitigation for players, 500 for monsters. 33000-ish is cap.

If any of the above was wrong, look for it yourself then :P

    Actually yes, you can.
As a general rule, the bigger the number the better. So there is a useful starting point for CP and gear right there.

PS: For those obsessed with fractional percentages, the one place where you do need to pay attention is the CP jump points. Fractionals do *not* count for CP and are always rounded DOWN.

As far as the "_ Damage" stats go, the effect it has on damage differs slightly for most skills in the game, from skill to skill. The math is much more complex than "it adds X damage" with X being the same for every skill. But...

...this is a good way to guess the rough effectiveness of "_ Damage" stats. Every point of Weapon Damage has the same amount of damage increase as every 10 points of Max Stamina. In other words, 1 WD = 10 Max Stamina. (It's actually 10.5 rather than 10, but just remembering 10 is easier and it's close enough.) Spell Damage and Max Magicka work the same way.

Here's a little supporting evidence. Using UESP's ESO Skill Browser, if you look at the Dragon Knight's Lava Whip skill coefficient formula and puzzle out the weird formatting they use to display it, you'll find that the skill's formula is:
    0.09797 Magicka + 1.02992 SpellDamage

If you divide the coefficient for Spell Damage by the coefficient for Magicka, you'll get a little over 10.5, meaning each point of Spell Damage is worth about 10.5 points in Magicka as far as damage increase for this skill.

As you can also see by the formula, each point in Spell Damage adds roughly 1 damage to the skill. This is tooltip damage, though - damage before mitigation.

Edit: Oh, I nearly forgot. For other stats, like crit chance and mitigation, check out the UESP Build Editor. To the right of the page, under "Computed Character Statistics", click one of the little "..." buttons next to a stat and it will give you the formula for it. For example, Spell Critical's formula on the page is:
    SpellCrit = (Set.SpellCrit + Skill2.SpellCrit + Buff.SpellCrit)*(1/(2*EffectiveLevel*(100 + EffectiveLevel))) + 0.10 + Item.SpellCrit + Mundus.SpellCrit + Skill.SpellCrit + CP.SpellCrit

But that looks confusing as heck, right? So screw doing manual math. Instead, in the same popup that the formula is found in, just replace any values in every field except "EffectiveLevel" with 0 (they should already be 0 if you haven't loaded a build in the build editor, yet). Then just type in the number you want to see the percentage of in the top field, which for Spell Critical is "Set.SpellCrit". The "Spell Critical" field at the bottom of that popup will update to show you what your critical percent is based on the number you put in.

It sounds confusing, but it's not. Just think of the little popup window as a calculator. Plug in the number you want to see and it shows you what the percentage of it is.
