I have to say, I really like how the Psijics Calling handels the quest location.

I never really liked the concept of "Big floating arrow you just have to follow", unless its really a quest where your questgiver knows exactly where they send you too (Like "Pick up that bottle over there" and stuff).

IN this quest, we get a map with some marks on it, a message when we are close to the target and then have to actually look for it.

And I love it. It brings back memories of old RPGs, where you didnt just follow quest markers, but actually had to read the quest text and figure out where to go.

I would love it if they do it this way more often, especially when the quest actually involves searching. Its really strange when the quest says aomething like "investigate the crime scene", and immediatly shows you the three things you have to click on to find the clues...

Wait until you decide to do it on 10+ characters

Whats the big deal, after the first one, you know the location anyway.

Honestly, it reminds me back to the days of Morrowind or classic WoW. NO big marker on the map, just a discription of where you need to go.

But the process to search and access, as well as how repetitive they are till the end is extremely boring.

It will be better if they add mechanic similar to Murkmire fire stone

I agree entirely with the OP. I always prefer a wide circle on a map to an arrow over a specific spot so far as quest locations are concerned, and the way ZOS have organised the Psijic quests is an interesting variation on that. Unfortunately there are now a lot of gamers who can't play without their hand being held all the way, hence why a lot of the PC add-ons are popular. Personally, I can't think of anything worse than being shown the exact locations of everything on the map so all you have to do is mount up and ride straight there - and then complain about how a DLC or chapter only contained 10 minutes of content  ! I much prefer to stay on foot and explore new content the old-fashioned way.

Isn't it possible to disable quest markers in the options? I haven't tried to completely disable them and can't log in now to check but I thought it was possible.

Of course the problem is the quest text was written with the assumption that players would have an arrow to follow so they often don't give much detail, so it might not be possible to find what you're looking for just from their description.

It's possible. It's not enjoyable, for the reason you just mentioned.

    I dunno.

    Sounds like work to me.

I think people should be able to choose how they play. There's no reason to judge anyone on how they "unfortunately" spend what is, after all, their free time. Needing to have your hand held and choosing what you enjoy doing are two very different things. This game has an endless amount of challenging content, whatever your play style.

I'm glad some folks have fun with this type of quest, but it's actually my least favorite thing in the game. To me, the Psijic quest line is grindy, repetitive, flavorless, and boring, just a way of drawing out an empty activity in order to mask (rather poorly) the absence of any real story content or fresh locations to visit. It shows minimum effort and zero creativity, in my opinion, with slapdash "dialog" by a voice that could peel the paint off my walls. Although I'm someone who normally likes following the quest dialog multiple times, the mute button is the only way I can get through this one.

Again, if you enjoy it, more power to you! For myself, when I want the challenge of hunting for lost and hidden things, I have hours of entertainment waiting for me in my family's sock drawers. I can even draw a big wide circle around them if I want!

I like having a variety of approaches. The Psijic quest was fine for one questline, but I wouldn't like that method implemented for all quests, as quests would take too long to complete. But they actually do use a variant of that method quite often - where you get a blue search area, and as you get closer to your goal you will see an arrow.

What I really liked about the Psijic questline was having a companion chatting with me as I adventured. That was novel. And fun.

I would like this as long as the clues/map aren't as obscure as some of the provided hints for treasure chests!

Yeah, it's definitely a matter of taste, and it will be a different experience for different people.

For me it felt too much like a child's cartoon, kind of goofy and slapstick. Or else the mindless chatter you get on the radio, when people are just making it up as they go along and don't actually have anything to say.

It didn't really fit with my expectations of an Elder Scrolls game, where the dialog is carefully crafted for the story, and not just one long joke. I guess for an MMO it's not out of place, any more than hairy orcs in wedding dresses riding unicorns are.
