For a highly populated MMO this game feels rather lonely...

So Ive played this game when the beta first came out then kinda been on and off. But one thing ive noticed with this mmo compared to others is the lack of memorable people ive met. It still feels kinda lonely. People arent really casually willing to join up on missions and what not out side of guilds (ive bounced around in many). Everyones just in there own bubble doing there own thing. Im guessing this could be that ES is a single player experience by nature. I only briefly get these one on one experiences when I do dungeons, and where forced to work together.
Any one els feel this way or do I just not get the culture of this game.

Actualy they have downgraded servers due to a drop in population so I'm not sure this is a high populated MMO anymore sadly. Lets not forget that PS4, xbox and PC players aren't playing together.

Downgraded servers? I thought it was always a global NA / EU server?

My friend list is capped and I have notes to keep track of all the memorable things we experienced together so I don't forget who is who. So can't say I agree.

Actually theyre currently trying to upgrade the EU server because there are too many players trying to get in.

I think ESO has quite good balance of population. There is plenty of people in central cities and group content, while outside the cities they are quite rare so you may enjoy your wondering without seeing horde of shining horses, pets, whatever.

There is very little incentive to group up while questing/exploring on this game. It's primarily a single player game with optional group content you can access via the activity finder. It is what it is.

This isn't unique to ESO. Almost all modern MMORPGs are like this. I'm not thrilled with the trend either. But it seems to be what the masses want. There are some niche games promising a more old school experience on the horizon. But who knows when they will actually be released or if they will be any good. It's going to take a company more interested in their vision than making money to put a game like that in the current market so don't hold your breath.

Grouping with randoms is boring and sometimes just plain awful.

I'll stick with my partner and a couple of friends.

There really isn't much incentive to group with your partner and friends either. Most enemies on the landscape die in a matter of seconds solo. So if you were to group up odds are they would just wind up watching you kill things, which sounds pretty boring to me.

There's more than one instance and it's capped? I know this because when me and my SO play we end up in different versions in Glenumbra even though we sit literally 1 foot from each other while playing.

I've found that this guild is very Guild orientated and that that's how they've promoted the completion of content.

PVP(Xbox EU) - Run with a group or get squashed(Easiest way to get in a group? PVP guild)
Trials - Normal can be pugged, Veteran Can be very difficult without an organised group(Easiest way to get in a good trial group? Trials guild)
Dungeons - Normal, easily pugged. Veteran, Can be difficult as a pug. Hardmode, Join a PVE guild focused on hm achievements, titles and skins.

The game has made itself a very lonely place for the individual player with most people not bothering with area voice chat(on Xbox EU anyway) because it's generally full of garbage.

There's no lack of group content in the game, two-thirds of the DLCs each year are devoted solely to it. However, there are major disincentives to grouping because (1)PUGs in all MMOs are out of fashion due to the problems encountered with them, and (2) the alternative of joining a decent guild of like-minded adventurers is badly impacted by a system that allows you to join five guilds and a trading system that means most players who want to join guilds do so mainly in order to secure guild traders. With some doubtless decent exceptions, guilds in this game simply aren't what they have traditionally been in other games.

I've yet to find a guild of "like minded" individuals.

The insanely boring and out of touch crowd seems hard to find. :)

    thread title:

for me personally? i see it as a Good Thing.
i come from morrowind single player and was lonely because was only NPC's all around, so i decided to start playing MMO's somewhere around 2004 - 2005, and all i was looking for was to be able play the same as i did in morrowind, but with other Real Life people walking around. and all the MMO's i have ever played "FORCED" me into playing in groups and forced me to not be able to do anything unless i was in groups, i Hated it!
but here in eso is not like that, i can play solo and still have the real life people walking around and im Not FORCED to play in groups.
i love it here in eso much better than any other mmo.

There is a strong single player ES undercurrent here, but end-game dungeons, trials, and PVP are multiplayer oriented. That pretty much means that there is a mix of different types of players in the game, although you may encounter more of one, and less of the other, in places.

I am more of the single player ES sort. Most of my socialization in the game comes from guilds. I don't spend a lot of time chatting in zone chat, unless I see something that needs to be answered.

This game does not have groups of players chatting out of zone chat, which I have seen in other games.

Since a level 1 can go to any zone and a max level can revisit any zone and both find gear and adventure for their level, the entire population is spread out over the map. If there was no level scaling, the max level people would all be crowded into the latest expansion.

I think this culture of the 'me' stems in part from the fact that many missions pit players against players instead of having them cooperate.

Just now, during a few delves I ran for the event, I was close to logging out after putting up with so many obnoxious randoms in 'my' delve.

Need to capture mobs for the quest objective? Well allow me to murder everything while I zip through the place on Rapids, denying your every objective and making sure you have to sit there waiting for respawns even though you were there first.

Need to pick up some items? Well allow me to zip through the delve, stealing all objectives, living or dead, while you are fighting off some mobs, because my time is more important than yours.

Need to get a hit in on a side objective? Well you may be standing there for 5 minutes waiting for a spawn but I'll make sure I'll drop a burst/ulti combo on the 30k health mob you need and make sure it's dead before you even pull your weapon out. Enjoy waiting another 5 minutes for the next try, toodles!

I was so p!ssed with people being utterly selfish that I really wished there was an Elder Scrolls Offline.

Besides? When there is no event on and only a handful of people in the map, and you put out a call to help with a WB/share daily, NO ONE cares. You see them there, wandering about but no one answers. Yet when there's a special drop, SHARE SHARE SHARE SHARE!!!!! You have this quest stop being selfish and share!!!!!!

You know what....? Sorry. I won't. My turn to be selfish. It is sad that when I see another player in the world I tend to think first as someone who's here to steal my nodes/quest objectives than a buddy to share an adventure with. (Although to be fair some of the latest quests do not require people to compete for drops, so that is definitely a step in the right direction. If only the older ones could be changed to match.)

There is another side to this. Why must we always depend on others, or have to pester others to drop what they are doing to come do what I want to do? Imagine I want to run this WB quest *now*. Because I feel like it. I have three options.

1- Soloing it. If I'm not able to, I might

2- Call out for a WB share. I can tell you, most times people don't answer. Not in /zone. Not even in guilds. There is little interest in WB from older DLCs (Wrothgar and Vvardenfell I'm looking at you). I could whisper people in my friends list but really, why should I have to pester people when I want to do something? To avoid that, I could

3- Wait a bit for other players to show up who are also doing the WB. But referring to number 2, it's not easy to find anyone in the older areas. Players get more and more spread out the more maps we have available.

So yes. Give me things I can do on my own, how I want, when I want, and I'll be content playing all day by myself. And I'm sure I am not the only one. Which is probably why it feels so 'lonely'.
