Tbh I wouldn’t the only reason I still play is that I have invested a lot of time. If you wanna be top tier end game pve your lag will make you perform worse that mid tier players even if you would be considered best with no ping

Wait for a free weekend and try it yourself.

The game seems to be in a world of pain at the moment due to server capacity issues. This goes on top of the known Oceanic lag as per the thread linked above.

This is the best MMO in the world in my opinion. But playing from Oceania you will have to get used to 350 lag on a good day, around 500 as standard and 999+ frequently. 999+ is fairly much all the time if you go to Cyrodil.

We’ve heard that rubbish at least 2 dozen times over the past 5 years. Guess what, playing in the Oceanic region is still an unplayable disgrace. Don’t delude the OP with false hope.

The game is 'playable' in Oceania. The thread linked above is very relevant - I'm on the NBN on the east cost, and my ping/latency is virtually always 310-360ms, which is 'red' lag in the game.

Note - I play on PC NA.

If you're interested in PvE questing for the main story & sidequest's, then the game is 100% fine even with the lag issue's.

If you're interested in PvP, then you will have a lot of issue's/problems due to the higher latency.

If you're into the high-end score/timed runs... then the lag will be a big problem as well.

If you're into high-end group content, it'll be doable... but the lag will hold you back and the group(s) will have to likely compensate for it.

How in the world do you get such high Latency? I'm on the East Coast and I am at 80 to 110 ms all the time for the past 5 years. Are you on a wireless connection? I could not stand that much Latency.

He is referring to the east coast of Australia :) I am in the same region with FTTH NBN connection & my ping is the same.. around 300-350 is standard & it's always in the red.

The game is totally awesome. The lag is not. I’m from Melbourne and I’m always around 300-400 ping. It used to be 200 which was much better and way more playable. Hopefully it gets back to that one day but they don’t seem to care to much about us on this side of the world.

PVE is ok. It’s easy if you play with other oceanic players. PVP isn’t very playable.

Also, usually one night a week the server goes down for maintenance so you can’t play that night. It’s right in prime time Aus time, It’s usually Mondays or Tuesdays but they change the day depending on certain things.

It can get laggy. I'm normally on a ping of 300-350. I can still complete vma and vet trials, but you'll have to work a bit harder for it.
When it hits the 400-500 things get tricky.

If you can deal with the lag then the game is very good. Best to just see for yourself though.

Your experience may well vary from everyone around you. If you 1) have a quality machine on which to play 2) have a quality connection/ISP in an area with reliable service and understand how to diagnose connection issues and have up to date hardware, firmware and are using a wired connection and 3) employ the use of a routine service like Mudfish or possibly WTFast or some such, then yes you may play the game with a decent level of functionality. However if any one of these areas is faulty you will suffer. It’s also recommended to play on NA server as the EU server has many more issues and downtime, and it’s likely your ping is better to NA.

The game is still playable but u just cant do better in some area with 200 + ping.

No doubt, those famous players will became normal players when they stay with 200 + lol

I just moved from WA US, with cable, ping rarely ever approached 80, let alone 100. Here in the PH, with Faux fiber, depending on if I use and tinker with VPN or go without it, I never go below 270. In moderate hours in Vivec I get 305 standard, with plenty of 999+ thrown in.

I tried to do Salothan's with 3 guildmates yesterday, and could barely even get one shot off while stuttering to oblivion.

I'm preparing to resign myself to solitary play, or at best an oceanic hour guild and MIGHT be able to do some group activity.

I could upgrade my Laptop, or even get a desktop again, but it is more than sufficient for ESO, and that wouldn't help anyway.
I could upgrade the gpu on a newer desktop, but that doesn't help either.
I could go with a faster ISP package, but that's not going to help.

As I suspected before I moved here, we in oceania are resigned to ping hell.

Dont listen to people like this. Shes addicted and plays and supports no matter what condition the game is in. This is not an insult, it's a straight fact.

Subjectively speaking with over 3k hours of experience, the ping is horrendous for Oceanic and most Southeast Asia locations. It's nearly impossible to compete in PvP. Vs terrible players with good ping, you simply can't keep up, and vs equal or better, you basically have no chance. In PvE you will always have lower dps no matter how good your gear and rotations are. The ping causes too many skills to not fire off without mashing the buttons multiple times etc. If you just want to relax, craft, and maybe do a bit of casual questing and dungeons, then it's a bearable experience. Beyond that, performance and ping are the absolute worst for a mainstream MMO. I challenge you to find one with worse performance or ping.

    ES-Oh wait.

If you are coming for the stories and some casual fun, the game has plenty of content and is worth it.

If you dream to be the best of the best in pvp and top veteran trial pve you will need to be truly outstanding to compete with the disadvantage of the ping.

300 ping, it's noticeable but only really game-breaking in PVP.

In PVE you wont be able to animation cancel and you'll double-cast some of your skills and have trouble weapon swapping.

It depends what you want out of the game, if you are the type of person that doesn't do anything unless than you an be the best you'll have trouble but you can play the game okay

Look, it's an amazing game. I do love it. And walk a tight rope between turned off by performance and then just pushing on with it. Throwing money at the crown store because I genuinely lack self restraint when it comes to the pretties.

As we don't know what your average connection will be, no one can confidently say you'd have minimal impact but it would be fair to say it'd be okay for solo, and most of the time in dungeons.

If your were interested in all facets of the game though including pvp, then no. Absolutely not.

Personal story - I've always been a staunch anti pvp player for a long time, until i tried Cyrodiil and found a nice guild to pvp with and it changed my perspective completely. I love Cyrodiil.

Thing is though I am so angry half the time knowing that the people I am VSing have 100ms whereas mine is best case scenario 260ms with Mudfish VPN. I burn that this isn't equal footing with latency (please google search Akamai and ESO for more information on routing through Europe to get to Texas server location - that quoted 260 was with direct to location pathing)

If someone had said to me 'Don't because of x,y,z reasons' before I started, then I would have definitely appreciated being saved from the path of disappointment and wishing things were different than to play this game.

    Save yourself.

I do not recommend buying into this game today, just wait for a bit. Reason being that the servers are overloaded to the point they have introduced a log-in queuing system. I actually just got a refund on this basis, as it's not acceptable for paid for content to not be readily available.

Now, it's in ZOS' interest to resolve this, but they are not known for responding rapidly to issues with the game, so my advice is to wait and see how this is going to pan out.

This is wrong. This is not the best mmo if you're a pvp player (and/or a console player) or have plans to be and thats pretty much because of the lag and ongoing performance issues that have been going on for years and are ignored.

PVP balance is pretty bad too but thats another story, performance is the main issue. Its better that you are buying it on PC and not xbox or ps4 because it is awful on here. Even tonight at 3 am in a dead campaign its still lagging.

But of course if you dont pvp then ya its a pretty good game.. But if you do I would say its in pretty bad shape.. Its been 2-3 years of performance only getting worse and never getting better, and im not optimistic about it getting better any time soon.
