Should I start a new character to handle crafting or just hunt for all the skyshards?

If I want to max out skillpoints on all the crafting skill lines, can I do it with all the skyshards?

You can. I have friends that do that.

Personally, I have one character that does equipment crafting (Blacksmithing/Clothier/Woodworking/Jewerly) and one that does consumables (Alchemy/Enchanting/Provisioning).

That way only one character needs to learn Motifs.

I have a crafter that has next to 0 combat skills.
So I don't have to worry about grinding for skill points on other toons.

It was still a mission to get all that up tho.
And hes still not all the way there.

Yes, I've done it. On my main, which is fully specced for DW/Bow combat as well. And I still have points left over.

Yes, I had a guildmember wanted people to "escort" him around to get skyshards. I sent him 5K, and told him to do it the easy way (which I'll also tell you).

Spec for combat, use those combat skills to get the shards nice and easy, then spend a trivial amount of gold to reset your skillpoints. Or save one of the skill respec scrolls you get when nearing Lvl 50 (Lvl 48?) and you can respec for free.

you can do it all on a single character, especialy if you have acess to al the DLC's. my main is a crafter, and she also has several builds she switches between depending on my mood and/or circumstances - without any problem. bear in mind though - its not just skyshards. the ONLY skill points I'm missing on her are from higher ranks of pvp. otherwise, she has everything from all the stories, public dungeons and regular dungeons.

P.S. most skyshards can be easily acquired with just acess to light attacks. and as you gather them and get more skill points, you can get yourself some combat abilities and graduate to delves and eventually public dungeons etc.

If you level a character to 50 - which is very quick during double xp events like now - and reach the 'max' 160 CP then you have enough skill points to max all crafts, and a few left over to make them minimally playable.

You can get a mag character to fully playable (i.e. all class skills, passives + the staves and passives) plus all crafts covered with just delve and overland skyshards from two of the three alliance zones.

Motifs are the biggest consideration IMO. Not skill points. You want all equipment crafts (except jewellery) at least on a single character because motif farming can be quite a slog.

As a mag player I have all crafts on my main character, all magicka skills learned and haven't anywhere near the maximum number of skill points.

The character I solo lower tier group dungeons with is also a Grand Master Crafter. You dont have to take every skill point. Once I got maxed out on crafting I respeced him and didnt take the ones that cut down on research times and the like because they were no longer needed.

I have one character that is my Tank and crafter. just play the game and deconstruct, cook, craft poisons and potions, learn a trait till you can lear 3 at a time and thats it. All crafting with one character with lots of other skill unlocked and about 10 skill points available. No need to spread the crafting to through other alts.

If you do all the quests on one character the skyshards comes automatically.
I would recommend an main for achievements and crafting, note it does not need to be your main combat characters just the one who do quests.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Yes. You get a free skill respec scroll while leveling. Go through the zones and get all the skyshards because you have some combat skills, even the ones in delves and public dungeons. And then respec, put all the points in crafting.

    Both has its advantages.

Making a character just for crafting lets you start things like research at the maximum item limit and lowest reduced time earlier. You can max out a character in a couple days of grinding. Thats going to give you 70 something skill points. Which is about enough to get everything in all of the crafting skill lines. You can also get those skill lines pretty quickly too. Enchanting shouldnt take more than like 30-45 mins if you have a friend. Jewelry, wood, cloth and blacksmithing vary depending upon how prepared you are (now much you have to decon). Even then ik alot of players will just through stuff at you to decon if you ask, especially pve'er. Food and alchemy are always a pain unless you have alot of mats to waste but honestly the only ones you really need to get a jump on are the gear ones because of research.

Downside is your going to be locked into research for like a yr. Even if you get the lines to 50 and respec everything out of them except for the research passives, thats still like 12 skill points your going to be down from normal and your probably just goign to want to keep all of the points in the crafting line because otherwise your crafter is just useless other than research. It makes it hard to get that character useful for anything besides crafting in the long run.

Making a toon you have already your crafter has the plus that its already useful so you can still use it without it being a ton of work to get it to a useable state. Downside is your going to have to farm out like 70 ish skill points and if thats from skyshards thats 210 skyshards you have to fine. Quests also take awhile to complete and thats more than 70 quest because really questlines only give you skill points not just every quest.

    bonus types:

Try to spread out your research as evenly as possible. Like research all blacksmith items to 1 trait for example before you start researching a second trait on any of them. Then make sure there all at 2 traits before 3. It takes just as long to complete research but you will be able to craft a variety of items and craft sets that require more triats faster that if you, say research all of lighting, fire and resto staffs to 9 trait then start on something else. Its just because of how research times work. If theres something your like guaranteed to never want to use like an ice staff or maul. or if you only play like mag and want to save medium for last. Then ya go a head and skip them.

If your making a specific character for your crafter make it a stam toon and probably a sorc. That way you can make it a farmer also. Stam is obvious because your going to be sprinting node to node. I like stam sorc for my farmer because dark deal will give you free stam to refill your stam bar faster.
