Is there a point to being reminded forever that an item was transmuted?

Is there a point to being reminded forever that an item was transmuted? I'm referring to the transmutation marker that is permanently placed on an item once it's transmuted. Does it just indicate that if it's deconned that it won't give that trait material back? It's a little annoying having to see it forever.

It also can't be used to research that trait on another character, so maybe that's why the marker is there.

I'm not sure. I do believe however that if you decon a transmuted item that if it yields trait material the material will be for its transmuted trait. The implication being that one could transmute an item to nirned, then decon it to increase one's nirn stash. Again, not sure but I think I've seen discussions on that suggesting it.

Again, not sure here, but I wonder if you can transmute an item that has already been transmuted. I've not tried so don't know. If not, that could explain the value of having the item clearly marked as transmuted.

I'm hoping someone who really knows may post and enlighten both us. :)

It does, PvP players use this to sell transmute crystals, both nirnhoned and some jewelry ones.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Well that’s not entirely true. Yes, you can’t research the item itself, but when deconned it can yield its trait material, which can be crafted into a new item that can be researched. Mostly you see this with potent nirn from transmuted weapons, either to sell or make into researchable gear

I believe you can. I think I have re-transmuted a couple of items. As I recall, transmuted items are listed at the transmute station. If they cannot be re-transmuted, one would hope ZoS would exclude them from the list.

To shame you for not grinding out that specific trait?

I have grinded everyday Valkyn Skoria Heavy Infused or divine for 6+ months (just 1 run / day no time for more) and same for the shoulder in proper trait, than came transmutation and I grinded transmutation stones for the next 7-10 days to transmute all those crappy traits even though I do not enjoy PvP as much as some players do. But still I honestly do not care that we can see that weapon/armor has been transmuted, it is not like the icon with it being transmuted is displayed before my eyes 24/7.

Anyways my point is it is not shaming to not be able to get trait you wanted from drop it means RNGesus was not on your side.

I believe the reason it's marked transmuted is to remind you that you can't transmute it a second time...once it's changed, it can't be changed again.

I think it'd be ideal for an item that has been transmuted, has that symbol, to be permanently transmutable for free.

99% of the time people transmute it to the BIS and leave it at that so it won't get used. This however, means that ZOS has lee-way to change things without pissing off too many people. It also means those that want to experiment with stats can change their items around at will much easier.

99% of people won't use it, but it at least means that symbol goes from meaning, 'This item was transmuted, the owner of this item is a pleb' to 'This item can have its trait changed at a transmute station at any time, but the owner probably won't use it anyway'.
