One time alliance change

I made all my characters before one Tamriel I work to much and will not delete or buy slots to make new alliance toons. I’d like if we could get a 1 time faction change for every toon that forces you to stay out of pvp till the end of what ever campaign you had selected.

I wish they had it also since by accident I made a red and blue character, which I will never play in PvP because of it.

The problem is it will be abused. GW2 had alliance change tokens. It really messed things up because blocks of people would change at same time. Really upset the balance.

Pretty sure Zos recently said they were not interested in offering alliance change. Believe it was Rich himself.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Well it seemed at the time they would just make it pay to switch alliances since you couldn’t interact with anyone of an opposing alliance I didn’t think it would come to being able to see everyone. I was raiding hardcore and you could only raid on same alliance with your guild so I did every quest on 4 toons and put a lot of time into the others. Sucks a little bit

Just curious. I'm guessing you noticed the issues relatively early in those character's careers. Why not just delete them and make them the way you wanted?

It was, and he has no idea obviously since he said something like "It is something not that important nowadays. Nobody really cares. No needed".

He has NO IDEA how many players would like to change alliance because a lot of different valid reasons.

I am one of those, that created and maxed PvP toons in X alliance to play with people that don't play the game anymore. I'd REALLY like to change those toons to the alliance I play with daily. I don't want to delete them and neither want them to be sitting in my character login screen forever.

im wondering why they are so against alliance changes - with restrictions - what is the possible downside? Are they afraid that in pvp everyone will switch to the currently winning alliance (you could restrict it to once every 12 months for every character or something like that)...i guess currently the alliances are well distributed and they are afraid to upset that balance?

It's human nature to want what we don't have, instead of being content with what one does.
That's not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to our evolution and ambition is a blessing from the almighty.

    But pettiness is the devil.

It bothers me that changing race to a race of another alliance does not change your alliance or at least have an option to.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

The worst part for me is that my three non-correct alliance toons are my favorite named toons and i don't wanna start over lol.

    One time alliance change
    As I mentioned elsewhere:
As I always say when this one comes up : I am all for alliance change - If Done RIGHT!

And by that I don't mean some token that pops your character to a new alliance, I do indeed mean a whole guild-DLC sized questline with an cloak and dagger (Or since this is ESO, "hood and dagger", perhaps?) spycraft flavor and a "faction loyalty called in question" plot, where you get to make a big choice in the middle - stay loyal to your alliance and prove yourself, or turn your back on them and defect to greener pastures elsewhere...

With the second half (or two thirds, or whatever) of the questline being different depending on your choice - either uncovering the one who actually framed you, mobilize your old and trusted allies to gather support and track down the true conspiracy while dodging the agenrs sent to bring you in; or preparing your escape, dodging the agents sent to arrest you, courting your desired new friends while grabbing some juicy secrets on the way out to sweeten the deal, etc.

Such a story could have a neutral city as "spycraft" focal point (like vienna during the cold war, where spies and agents often went to spy hard between the two sides - for ESO it could be some place between the alliances, a former imperial town declared "free city" after the fall of the empire in northern nibenay, eastern colovia or western skyrim, perhaps, or even an post-anchorite-war isle of stirk...), but otherwise take you all over the old faction regions, possibly revisiting a few one-time-only maps with new mobs... and perhaps even meeting a few familiar faces (come on, wouldn't you love to slam a porticullis shut into Razum-dars face as you hop on a boat bound to morrowind with Naryu? ;) )

Such a questline could even have special titles depending on what you choose... "[original faction] Loyalist" or "[original faction] Defector"... obviously it would be a one-time only event, thus making serial defectors that change alliance depending on which one is currently top in cyrodil that some people always fear when this topic comes up an impossibility.

And it also might have drawbacks for PvP, like... reduced AP gain for several months, since noone fully trusts a traitor... or maybe having to re-earn all the AP up to your current rank before you start progressing again, representing your efforts to convince your new allies of your trustworthyness... and definitely increased AP rewards if a member of your original faction takes you down, because...
    Star_wars_traitor_gif_by_mrarcadium-daafqoh.gif
    :)
(there could even be a daily "hunt traitor" mission, and defectors from your PvP-characters alliance in cyrodil getting an visual clue while that mission is active...)

Also, this could be a option to add new factions to PvP. Like... have options to not just defect to one of the other two alliances, but also "go rogue" and join a new "Outlaw" faction (...black color and jolly roger flag, perhaps? Would be hostile to -every- other faction in cyrodil, and spawn at some new but unsecured base, thus very susceptible to enemy raids - trials of being an outlaw in the face of organized armies); or an "Imperial Remnant" faction (purple imperial diamond flag, spawning in some ill-secured legion base somewhere, possibly at the nibenay border, and also fighting everyone else, but turning all the "imperial" NPCs in cyrodil non-hostile?), or a "neutral" faction that is "yellow" to everyone (green flag and incapable of capturing locations, spawning at vasrious random merchant camps and such...)
Might be too complicated, but would still be interesting!

You said you don't want to buy another character slot but you'd be happy to buy a token to switch alliance? Seems simpler to just make another character on a different alliance.

I'm not for alliance changes. But, if it ever was a thing I'd want it to be an all or nothing alliance switch (ie: every single character on your account, or none at all).

People that don't want an alliance change token, even a one time or time-restricted one, take Cyrodiil PVP too seriously IMO.

There... there never were alliances in GW2. Their whole thing has always been "server versus server," never "faction versus faction." Heck, they've never even had race change due to how heavily your race is integrated into your "personal" story.

They have let people pay to switch servers, but these days with server guesting even that doesn't really matter. Maybe you were thinking about something like WoW? Because GW2 definitely has never had anything even resembling alliance change tokens because there are no alliances/factions in the game, only worlds/servers versus other worlds/servers.

I was here at 1.6 and do not recall Zos every saying anything that suggesting they were considering such a change. Been here since before the game launched.

There are no valid reasons to get an alliance change token if the cost of implementing said token is further ruining alliance populations in Cyrodiil.

Make a player cap per alliance like when you transfer on wow and a server is full

    Here's an idea:

    - Instead of picking a character's alliance during creation, we instead pick it when we join a Cyrodiil campaign (Choose Campaign -> Choose Alliance -> Enter Cyrodiil)
    - The faction is locked for the entire campaign duration AND it is account-wide, meaning alts will have to join the same faction
    - Upon entering Cyrodiil after the campaign has ended, you can choose another alliance if you want

This way we are not limited to a single alliance, we can still play with friends in Cyro and it would improve communication (and relationships) between PvP guilds (as to which faction they'll be joining so there will still be interesting battles between them)

Heh, mine looks the same except it's one EP character. In fairness though, I used him as a bank alt because I didn't want my DC boys carrying all that crap around and being treated as a mere pack mule.
