Unable to play/start game after update

Been at it for about two hours so far without luck. Game had 'crash report' running for unknown reason preventing the full update from completing for quite some time, eventually found it and shut it down manually and able to apply update. Now stuck in cycle of opening launcher, hitting "play" and game crashes after going to black screen (the norm for game starting) with crash report coming up each time. Tried launching from exe file directly bypassing launcher- black screen as if it is going to start, but crash report option comes up as well. Any ideas or tips would be appreciated if you have experienced similar. - Edit for changes- repair of game fixed issue.
