Do you make character builds that are not purely for combat poweress?

^This, I'm curious about ppl's choices especially those who have multiple characters.

Do you make character builds that are fit for a “scene” (say pretend to be a tinkerer or frost mage etc), for trolling or other aspects of “fun”, knowing such builds are not end-game materials or even not viable?

Choose the respond you like the most if you think several options describe you. Don't have a other option because polls like these ppl tend to select it even the choices match them

No. All my characters must be end-game material

    - sneaky khajiit with fully developed stealth and thieveng passives in 2 detection reducing sets
    - Orc runner (I bet it is a standard)

Used these builds on my main for appropriate situations (like questing in Thieves guild)

I normally have my main character focus on a solid build I can do end game content with, but every other character on my account has odd builds or interesting themes rather than cooker cutter builds.

Decent options, but none that really fits in my case.

I have no interest in set builds or endgame, I just make multiple characters who do different things in different ways.

Seeking my own way in this game is one of the best experience. Testing new stuff, trying to compose nice '"niche" builds is fun. Afterall it's only a game and I don't need to be best in everything.

I make characters who live in different provinces, and they are built to match their "role". A warrior Nord, a sneaky thief Khajiit, a blistering Dunmer fire mage with an elegant apartment. All of them can do writs. They are not for RP, they are more like characters in a book.

I have no interest in PVP or competitive content with stat checks at the door. ESO is my world and I play my way. Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer choice. B)

I set up most of my characters for solo/duoing. Which means all of them are a bit more tanky, have a heal, and can do damage. A bit less than a pure glass cannon, but they survive. In so far, been able to duo up to Scalecaller and Fang's Lair. Haven't tried them yet. Recently, we got through Bloodroot Forge, after having to really figure out all of the mechanics for 21k health.

I can hit about 15 to 20k on most of them, without going through and really practicing a rotation. Sure If I wanted to, I could probably push that higher. But I tend to stick to duoing. Only thing I don't is trials, I do them on normal, have a set of "pure dps" armor/rings/weapons and I'm on a character I can consistently hit 20k on. Or I have a trials ready healer, with the right sets, and set up for group play since before I could duo most everything I healed, still do for some trials with guildies.

I tend to play builds that make sense, but by no means are perfectly optimal. I duoed three easy dungeons this morning on a magden who had 4 Animal Companions skills on his front bar. My sorcerers commonly go lightning/lightning. When I play a magblade again the spammable will surely be Swallow Soul (previously Funnel Health). Etc.

I've never gone for "endgame" in any game I've played. Never done a DPS test. I putter around questing/exploring/soloing. I might look at a build guide if I'm having a hard time seeing what skills combo well together, but I don't copy the build entirely.
(heck, I barely have a 'rotation' and only use one skill bar)

No poll option fits my answer.

I have 3 characters that I use for vet/hard content that I try to keep BIS or near BIS builds for performance.

The rest will probably never see vet content at this point and I just use them for normal content and questing.

It's just too exausting to try and keep up with the best performing builds each update on too many charactets

Most of my characters have what I call "theme builds" for fun and RP purposes. Emphasis is on lots of graphic procs and making a lot of noise. They tend to use as many proc sets as I can fit on them. I have a flame mage, an ice mage and an all-electric brassy apostle. An Argonian DK who channels the swamp, so emphasis is on poison and disease damage/procs, and all that mud from stone giant. A Dunmer DK with a "Perils of Vvardenfell" build which includes Red Mountain procs, and Skoria playing the role of Bar Dau. My master crafter has a secret identity as "The Man with too many Knives", and uses only dual-wield skills and caltrops for damage. They are all fun to play, without being significantly gimped in combat.

I also have a few characters who are fully optimised for doing the serious business of competitive PvP and solo-dungeoneering. They have solid-gold BiS builds and the most effective skill/CP layouts. RP'ing definitely takes a back seat with these.

Exploring non-meta possibilities and theorycrafting are some of the best aspects of this game because the possibilities are virtually endless. Sometimes you end up with something that seriously surprises you, like my thunder mage. Sometimes it's fun to just go with a theme and see how far you can take it, like my khajiit warden tank who's built around bears (followers, Seline's, etc.) and to heck with not being BiS because it wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun to run.
    My Khajiit warden Bearly-Tanks:

One of my favorite niche builds is my public dungeon speedrunner (stam orc wearing Darkstride + Coward's Gear). They never need to slow down from max speed while farming mobs and it's hysterical watching random players trying so hard to keep up but inevitably falling far behind. I just finished farming a set of Prisoner's Rags (3 jewelry + weapons) which I'm going to switch out for the Darkstride which should help fine tune the build!

It'd be more accurate to say I focus on creating characters that work for the types of content I like to do given the limitations of the system. At no point is that focus on "combat poweress" (I think the OP meant combat prowess?) or having a "build" much less a... yeah, I'm not even going to say the word. It makes me twitch inside.

I just go with what I think is cool and looks cool and makes sense from a role playing perspective. I'm definitely more a role player than a min maxer.

For example I like sword and shield but I like medium armor. I wear a early level hat because I like it more than a helmet. I'll go with a weapon that I like the look of more than one that is technically better but I don't like the look of.

A few of my characters have been like test characters. I haven't played Stamina Nightblade much so my character who is stamblade is kinda trial and error, figuring it out. Same when Warden came out. I imagine many others had trouble deciding how to go with a Warden. Now I'm trying out Magicka Ice Warden. Trial and error, figuring out what works.

But I always strive to make my characters stronger. Being the best isn't one of my goals. But as long as they can defeat whatever comes their way I'm happy.
