1.3% completion rate (PS4) of Summerset is Proof of ESO's weakness

I just completed Summerset and noticed that only 1.3% have received the trophy for finishing the Summerset main story!

Is this proof that ESO is in a weak spot or failing? discuss! I'm really interested in the opinions.

There are two ways to look at this, yes, most players either didn't buy or bother to complete the shiny new chapter. Or, as in my case I haven't finished it as there is so much else in the game I haven't done yet, which seems healthy to me.

There is so much to do. Many of us have a ritual when we login. I for one know I get caught off guard helping others, doing writs, dailies, etc... give it another 6 months and I bet that % jumps significantly.

No idea. Just started doing Murkmire last week on an alternate for skill points and exp. Wouldn't have done it otherwise as I prefer PVE group content. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that after playing for a while (year and a half) that overland questing on a CP 700+ character is not worthwhile. I already have all the skill points I could ever need. And once you reach a certain level, everything melts before you.

As for that alternate character, I did run Summerset's main quest all over again. Found that to be a very entertaining zone, with raised difficulty compared to other zones, and full of skill-point giving quests. Compared to Vvardenfell (Morrowind), it was much better. But personal tastes differ.

The Summerset story is just not very good. Base game zones have better stories than Summerset so this is not very surprising. Overall the Summerset Chapter was quite... underwhelming. Was okay but not as good as Morrowind.

Similair results on Xbox. I do think this is down to millions buying the game at launch and not enjoying it in 2014/2015 because it wasn’t what they expected

I can't speak for everyone but I refuse to skip ahead to the latest expansion. My wife and I started back in July and we've done event after event, PVP, PVE, etc. it's hard to find time to complete the stories

I think other factors would determine a game getting weaker.

Watching content get marginally smaller each time it's released is a sign they are more worried about operations than growth, which usually means for a company they are in a holding pattern or riding things out.

Or hearing about how successful a game is from their leads, but then watching as they do not hire more staff to deal with needs.

But completion rate of a DLC on PS4. idk - I mean, I've only completed the SS main story on like 3 of my 15 characters, so if they count all 15 characters then I'd be contributing to how low it looks and I play this game way too much. There are also several players that won't worry about the main storyline, but would have still done the delves, gotten the shards, leveled the psijiic line, and done the trial.

edit: and I agree with what Kaylun said as well. Any players that bought the game and just haven't logged on since playing it years ago contribute to that negative outcome as well.

For comparison purposes, I just completed Main Quest Ch 4.5 and got a "Rare Achievement" notice on Xbox.

Less than 10% (9.96) got that far in the main quest!
Which made me feel a little better for never getting around to it until now.

If the my ps4 life calculations are correct we're looking at about 52 000 players with that summerset trophy.

12.3% have completed the level 50 trophy which is around 492 000.
Assuming this number is close to the actual player base on the ps4, the completion rate is 10.5%.

Good or bad, I don't know, there's alway active players when I'm on so I personally don't feel like it is in a weak spot.

Remember all the free play weekends for this game. Millions of people make accounts, play the intro, then leave. I don't know about organising trial groups or dungeon wait times, but there are still plenty of people in most zones on PS4 EU. The Guild Trader changes in the next patch will bring back lots of players, plus new motifs, the next few events, Season of the Dragon hype, cats, pyjamas, and more. 2019 looks great already.

I think we'd need to see the completion percentage of more than just Summerset. Dungeons, Trials, Zone quests, and Events as well as PvP participation.

Basing the health of a game the size of ESO on a DLC doesn't seem fair.

any statistic can be manipulated to be seen however they presenter wants you to see it.

This has 0 bearing on the health or longevity of the game, nor does it have any statistical relevance for people that have played, are playing or will play eso on any platform.

I just looked up the amount of players that care about this and its sitting at .049302%
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

I only finished Morrowind some months after it launched, and Clockwork City last week. I'm partway through Summerset and barely started on Orsinium and Murkmire. All of that is with one or two characters only, the others haven't started any of the DLCs yet. I've done a fair amount of the Thieves Guild but not yet started Dark Brotherhood.

There's just so much to do these days, which is great especially as there's no urgency to any of it and MMOs are played for years rather than weeks or months, but it means the DLCs tend to get delayed. In the last few months there has been an almost constant run of events too and that has distracted many players from what they would otherwise have been doing.

For me Summerset is technically beautiful, but boring. It doesnt feel like Elder Scrolls. It´s like part of another game. But i wouldnt say it´s bad. I completed the main story and was happy to see Sotha Sil again :p The Psijic Order seemed a bit weak in presentation to me though.
Unlike Morrowind or CWC where i did every quest and every delve i am not interested to see everything in Summerset.
But to be fair: i can see that there is lot of love & work in it and that dialogue got improved.

I don't understand this comment - Summerset only came out in 2017? Presumably players who bought at launch and then left have not bought and are not part of the Summerset achievement stats... unless the stat is based on total base game purchases rather than Summerset purchases?

I used to think like that too. But it isn't the case. I got summerset and finished it's main quest within a few days but after that I haven't had time to do much else, everything else is still as it was months ago. I got busy elsewhere.

Hard to say, yes lots left the game long ago however according to ZoS lots of players treat ESO as an single player game so they just do the quests in new zones then leaves.
This should give an decent completion rate.
On the other hand just finished murkmire. So much to do so little time.

However ESO is among the 20 games on steam with highest revenue and steam is just an faction of the pc players who are 1/3 of all so financial its no issues.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I've been here 5 years, subbed and buy crowns. I haven't completed the base game main quest yet. My opinion of the quests in ESO, I love their story telling. What can I say? I like to savor the quests so I only do them when I can focus on them, and I am prone to wandering off.

I am in the 98.7%. I am still working on CWC, haha, but admittedly, I have kind of lost my interest in questing. It's simply too much of a faceroll. The idea of intentionally nerfing my own character to make something harder just doesnt sit well with me. When Vvardenfell dropped, I did about half of it with a brand new Warden because of this exact reason, but getting low level drops was infuriating, so I just plowed through it on my main.

I have grinded the psijic quest half a dozen times if that counts.

I think it proves ZOS is weak, not ESO. They just aren't capable of producing quality content anymore. It seems that the producers there refuse to hire more people to satisfy the ever increasing playerbase. When was the last weapon type added? When has the performance received a significant bump up within the lifetime of this game? When are they going to add a damn trial group finder?
