Doesn't the price of the xanmeer lakehouse prove that eso is healthy? I mean 150 dollars worth the crowns? WOW!

For those who may be new to housing: most of the Notable homes have cost 12-15k crowns, unfurnished. All the Xanmeer house proves is people are willing to spend $100 USD on digital property.

Actually the reverse is true. Zenimax is doing what Games Workshop use to do. Have their stuff they sell way over priced. While they still do it, they do other things to make it "cheaper".

Thing is, before GW did other things to make it "cheaper" they actually kept increasing the costs. After about 10 or 15 years people finally stopped buying. While still profitable, they did not have the sales they wanted.

So Zenimax saying that ESO is worthless and the worth is in "the expensive" items, that is telling me they are hurting. They are relying on a few people to keep them afloat and no where near being extremely profitable.

Of course I could be wrong, but the way Zenimax acts like they are so superior to us, they are following the EXACT footsteps of GW where they only made a few million in profits instead of tens of millions or like other companies even billions.

The Crown sale back in December greatly softened the blow if you took advantage of it. I was able to get the Elder Argonian motif, the Xanmeer, and the furnishing pack for under 100, otherwise I definitely wouldn't have been able to get them. It was definitely disappointing to see that it wasn't going to be a permanent addition to the real estate selection that would be available for gold.

Shilling refers to (mostly) casinos paying people (those who really need jobs and don't necessarily care what they do for money as long as it's not illegal/going to land them in jail) to "pretend' to make money playing the games. Look it up on wikipedia for a more in-depth answer.

I grew up in Vegas, so shilling is something I understand. This sounds like shilling to me. As maybe someone is getting something for posting a positive spin.

Keep FIRMLY in mind.... I am.... jaundiced in the extreme when it comes to games.

    Pricing calc is simple.

Appropriately price an item where the price times units curve is at its maximum.

So...pricing that thing at 15000 crowns would seem to indicate that....

Now arguments to the contrary like zos has a *** hamster making million dollar decisions...well...folks...that sounds really stupid.

Im ready to listen to academic arguments, but nothing haphazard.

Once again...an imaginary house priced that high would indicate quite a few whales!

That price isn't extreme. Most aren't getting their credit cards out and paying $150 for the house.

Most would be ESO subs that have 10s of thousands of crowns banked that had nothing to spend them on.

It is a crown sink more than anything, just like housing is also a gold sink.

It proves nothing other than many have cash to spare for things like that and will spend it. Almost all games with cash shops gear them toward the whales, it isn't only this game by any stretch of the imagination.

Even if it came with race change tokens for all your characters it would still be too expensive. Houses have little to no interactions with furnishings and have been basically ignored through update after update. :|

Xanmeer Lakehouse might have some value as guild hall, however I see no point in owning it as player. I might grab it if it was half a price since I like all things Argonian, but for 15k it simply not worth it.

These houses are doing exactly what they seemingly are designed for.

    1. Get people to talk about how expensive and unrealistic pricing is.
    2. Get wealthy people or people who want to appear wealthy to buy it as status symbol.
    3. Change perception of "affordable" housing by comparison.

The asking price of anything, virtual or not is not really a signal of strength or weakness, its just the seller determining the market value of that thing.

Now you show me a scatter plot over time with player retention and cash spent and we can start talking about the market.

Just because it exists at a. asking price does not mean its value is that price, in anyones eyes. Those that buy for status are liquid enough to not notice the cost, so they are outliers. "Normal" people would be a better trend graph to determine asking prices for houses.

Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

I have notable houses on two accounts. Max leveled all my alts on my first account and have finally dropped my ESO+. I have no more reason to give ZOS my cash. Elswhyr or however it's spelled isn't going to do it. Summerset didn't do it. Morrowind didn't do it. I only enjoyed the first 3 or 4 DLC's and then it all just became kinda Blah blah blah! We'll I'll keep playing but I'm not paying for Blah.

It proves nothing about the game other than that their priorities do not lie with people that enjoy their game. A notable house being sold only for crowns is such a shame. I would work my butt off to save 5mil ingame gold to buy this house. Damned if I'll pay the price for a new 4TB internal HDD for it. :(

    ZOS logic:
Why sell 15 houses at $10 when you can sell 1 at $150 dollars and reduce server load!
I did a poll on this some time ago and you would be surprised by the percentage of people willing to spend $100 or even more on a house.
For some, the high price is an incentive as it offers exclusivity.
Personally though, I just think that the game would be all the richer (figuratively and literally) if they made housing more accessible to the masses by not charging monstrous prices.

Whilst I enjoy housing in ESO, it's actually a half-baked idea with a totally unfinished vision that doesn't allow for much creativity.
At this point it really just seems that they are stringing out a mediocre game whilst they can (while nothing better is available on the market) and bleeding their customer base dry of every last penny they can.

Look, notable homes are luxury things.

Luxury is always expensive. Is anyone complaining about a price of a Lexus car or a Patek Philippe watch? Or Mauboussin icecream that costs $1000?

Some things are expensive. They are for rich people. This is life.

you are wrong. a Massive amount of people has an active eso plus subscription all year long just for the crafting bag and inventory/bank space and other advantages. So all the shop stuff comes on top of that as a luxury bonus. Contrary to GW and other games they don't have to rely on just that at all so it's win win win win...
