Griffin pet bug/animations wrong?

I have two griffins- the original and the snowcap. Usually, there is an animation where they fly up and play with a feather, but neither are doing this any longer. Now they seem to be doing the animation the Jackals do, where they chase around a mouse in the dust/start scratching up dust and you hear a mouse "squeak", but they never fly up and play with a feather any more, which, in my opinion, was far cuter. Is this intended functionality or a bug?
