New year, same old: Lag is terrible. (PC EU)

Just to keep it on the radar: The lag has become even worse over the holidays. Cyro is basically unplayable after around 7 PM. Skills not connecting, stuns being registered 5 seconds after the actual hit, not being able to break free. PvP is in a terrible state right now.

That's it.

There were more than enough lag-bubbles in PvE to go around, too.
Sure, the general active player ratio number was probably way up for 'peak hours Vs off peak hours', in the activity monitor, even off hours had issues.

I got booted to log-in screens much more often while porting to another player or running through a way-shrine than I than I normally would at other times.
I understand why, sure, but I'd have expected the server software would have been tuned to be able to spin up instances to allow for increased numbers of players for these sorts of occasions by now.

And all that for another ~200 runeboxes and multiple stacks of the same swords/oils/motifs/etc worth between 1 and 10 gold at the guild vendors.

    Alas, another expectation, another disappointment.

The bottom line still works out to be 'I had more fun doing the New Life Festival than if either I or ZOS had skipped it'.

SO: Over all, I'm glad I played, and I'm appreciative of the new friends I made.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

I'm so thankful these PC lag topics pop up, because by and large the PC population seem to either say they too suffer from lag, (even with the best connections and top of the line equipment) or they act like there's no lag issues at all. They just don't exsist.

    It's a relief

Bear in mind that not only is game population up during the holidays and events, internet traffic in general is also up so holidays are always lag prone.

There's no doubt that some really do suffer from performance issues (be it lag, disconnections, long loading screens, or login difficulties etc), and some genuinely do not. The chances of being a sufferer are seemingly greatly enhanced if you frequent Cyrodiil and/or Trials (to a larger extent) and group dungeons (to a lesser extent). Personally I have never suffered from such issues since launch, but I don't deny that they do exist, although I don't think they are always entirely down to the servers.

True, it also depends on if your machine is able to render all the players and spells flying around. But I can tell from experience (and having a pretty good PC) that it is 100% down to the servers, if you have barely any players around and it still takes three tries to activate one skill or swap weapons. It's indefinitely worse when there are actually masses of palyers around. Even if a zerg fest is happening on the other side of the map, I'm still affected by it kilometers away.

Yep. There are too many online shopping sites getting in the way of quality game play.

I have not had many issues with the EU server until today. For some reason it takes forever to log in, the lag is so bad once I get in that the game disconnects me after about a min. I am not sure what is happening. I still cannot log into the EU server. It sits on character screen just spinning and then it goes to the login screen. Why is it so bad today? EU worked fine for me for a couple hours and then it just completely stopped working. I've just been playing on NA server since it is working fine.

Something is seriously wrong recently, as bad as lag has always been it has been getting much much worse. Can't connect heavy attacks to resource guards that are standing still type of bad. I got to the point of trying WTFast and KillPing to no avail, i either had the same problems or worse lol if you can imagine....

And even so, they decided to make PvP event...

The "mid"year event hasn't even started yet, but the servers are even worse than some days ago. Joined Cyro, was greeted by a 6 second lag, woke up dead within a zerg, then I left Cyro. What a ride that was!

    Fix the servers, would ya?
