Searching the room on 'The Heart's Desire' quest

At the end of the quest, there's an optional step to search a room. I found some things - I forget one or two - but they didn't complete the search. There was a book, and an 'empty box' and a helmet that both had 'search' buttons that did nothing when clicked - I finally gave up and finished the quest. Interested in was this bugged or what?
