I tried to start up ESO and is says something about can't uncompress patch. This happened a long time a go, I click on Repair and it fixed it self. I got it today and it will not Repair. So what do I do? I am at a loss. It says something about running a "consultant tool" but I can't find it anywhere.

I would like to play ESO but am stuck now. What do I do?

First thing, reboot your machine. Then run the launcher and see if it will let you repair.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

In this case true. Although, it is not necessarily necessary. One could open the task manager, terminate the eso64 process including all affiliated tasks and then restart the launcher.

Shut down the metal bin is the longer way, but the one every user understands.
It just works, it just works, little lies, stunning shows,
people buy, money flows, it just works.
It just works, it just works, overpriced open worlds,
earnings rise, take my word: IT JUST WORKS!

I only post this because it has helped my patching weirdness over the years.

Sometimes before a major patch, I reboot it first, then patch without checking to see if it will bork on me.

First thing I have done. NO go.

I tried Google but the suggestions which were for a few years ago, didn't work either. I was able to launch the game from the ESO64 exe directly, but what will happen if the game get's patched again?

Only thing I didn't do was uninstall and then reinstall. That will take a long time though so I thought if anyone knew something here. I like to see if there are other options before I try that and that might not even work and all the time and download wasted.

The consultant tool is in the Zenimax online folder, under launcher. You'll see a game icon with game consultant written beside it.

How's your disk space? I haven't run into it before, but is it possible there isn't enough space to decompress the download?

The launcher is at best, an indifferent patcher. I stopped using it years ago.

Now, since the game ran, you probably got the Patch Manifest error, which is irritatingly common and completely 100% useless. The patch manifest is file that tells the launcher what version the game is at before it loads the game and contacts the server. Well, the server will tell you if your out of date.

And, I have had manifest errors up the wazoo and the game patches just fine when it needs to.

So, really, the best advice here, make a shortcut to eso64.exe on your desktop and ignore the launcher except on patch days. And I have seen one manifest error in over 3 years since I stopped using launcher. A reboot sorted that.

Note, if your a Steam user, make sure steam is running before you use the eso64.exe, or Steam will load the launcher.

I forgot I am not a Steam user for ESO. I bought it directly from Zenimax.

What will happen on patch day? Will I get the same errors or will it hopefully correct it self? I had no issues yesterday when I logged in a played for a short bit.

I got about 11 gigs of free space on my Drive C. Everything is on Drive D. I had less than 11 gigs and never had issues. I thought because ESO is on Drive D it wouldn't matter. I will see if I can free up space and see what happens.

Also I forgot to thank everyone for your help. I wanted to try everyone's replies and forgot to thank you all. I appreciate all the help you are giving me.

on patch day, if you forget to run the launcher and just run the shortcut, it tells you that you are running an outdated client. you then run the launcher and it patches you. then instead of running the game, switch back to the shortcut. if you do remember on patch day, then simply run the launcher and it patches you, then switch to the shortcut...

you're welcome...and if you still have issues, holler here again...it's a great community, and I've gotten issues straightened out for myself, including one that I'm in the midst of right now...

Oh, I meant where you had ESO installed. I wouldn't think that it should matter how much is on C if ESO is on D. It was just a thought...
