Will Crown Crates be aviable only if you directly pay for them?

Crown Crates are neither obtainable by logging in events nor by daily rewards anymore.

Some good cosmetics and furnitures are exclusives for Crown Crates. Those *free* (Considering you need to own ESO+ for the logging events) Crates helped to at least gather enough gems to buy exactly what you wanted from that gambling feature.

Now we are forced once again to buy Crown Crates, hoping to either get the item by pure luck in one of the cards or to open enough crates to gather the amount of gems needed.

So I raise this poll to see your different points of view regarding the future of Crown Crates:

Will Crown Crates be aviable only if you directly pay for them? 72 votes

Crown Crates should come once again as logging in and daily rewards.

Well, ZOS did announce that the new ESO+ rewards are a replacement for the old crates ESO+ members got during free ESO+ events.

Crown Crates are gambling. I hope they get removed from the game. Remove them before the class action lawsuits start as a result of some government study concluding that they are gambling.

The selection of items in the daily login calendar is going to vary, probably alot. So no surprise if there are no crates this month.

While I am sympathetic to your point, they exist because people buy them.

Said it 100x and i'm sure i will say it 1,000x more, that word should is dangerous.

The entire existence of crown crates is predicated that people will pay for them, they didn't give you anything for "free" for altruistic reasons, they were monitoring some metric or group of metrics to determine an effectiveness of input.

Maybe they wanted to know if a log in reward of crown crates spurred people to buy them for the first time or took them out of their flight pattern and made them buy more often than previous months.

Maybe they need to determine at what point login rewards are "worth" the hassle of logging in each day

Maybe they are looking to see what rewards keep players logged in after the initial log in.

Whatever the actual reason for these rewards, it sure isn't to give you anything for free.

The gambling feature of any game is unfortunate for sure, but remember if they were not purchased, they would not exist.

Is the ethical choice to remove gambling? Maybe

    OTHER: ZOS is doing fine

Also, no one is "forced once again to buy Crown Crates"...

...and it seems to me, they've temporarily done away with with crown crates and are instead giving us 6 XP scrolls, a mount and two festive seasonal hats, which is better than everyone getting a few free crates and a lot of people getting useless junk. Even better they've made the mount match the previous pet! Finally, those free 6 XP scrolls will stack with the New Life festival XP bonus, which is awesome!

For me, its not a case of the poll missing an option to say "I have no complaints", but instead an option to say "Thanks for the free stuff!"

And the OP specifically mentioned BOTH ESO+ trials (which previously rewards ESO+ players who logged in with crates) and the daily login rewards. To answer the poster's question, there's been a Dev comment about the lack of crates for ESO+ trials, but not the daily login rewards.

No one is forced to buy crates.

Premise is faulty. Free Plus Promo not having crates for subscribers is separate from Daily Login not having crates.

The poll is too broad as well.

One poll is needed about crates for subscribers during the Free Plus Promo.
Another separate poll is needed about crates not in this month’s login rewards. Also you are jumping to the conclusion that there will never be crates in log in rewards ever again.
Another poll is needed for other crate sources.
And lastly a separate poll for what should be in the crates (consumables or no).

It’s too convoluted to combine all of these, IMO.

Furthermore my problems with crates are: the gems one gets for duplicates should be half cost not a third; And also we should be able to trade in anything we don’t want, I have so many guars and I hate guars.

It is ZOS's property they can do whatever they want.

Just make them available to buy and be done with it. Free crates where not helping IMO because few people where getting cool rewards from free crates. Hard to intise someone to buy something when you only get potions and crown repair packs.

No, I dont know what your point was. I answered a question about whether or not ZOS has announced anything about the lack of Crown Crates.

Yes, they have, in the case of free ESO+ trials. Subscribers arent getting them, since they've been replaced with the new exclusive rewards.

No, they haven't in the case of Daily Login Rewards, so we have no idea if the lack of free fcrates in the December rewards is indicative of a trend or just a quirk of December. I left that out of the original comment, so that's what Ive been trying to clarify.

I do not think the poll will actually answer the question, but I may be wrong. I have before.

It seems Zos may be playing with the rewards to see what has the best effect on revenue overall. I think it is a little premature to start calling out the sky is falling as is happening in the OP.

I think a lot of people will guess but that is all they can do. Zos has made many changes recently, adding the loggin rewards and increasing ESO+ perks and all of them are connected.

Anyone who thinks otherwise seriously lacks understanding of how things work. It is all to drive revenue.

Edit: but we are all entitled to guess. We are all entitled to have an opinion of what we think is happening.

Crates, look boxes and gachas are all cancers on the gaming industry. Would be glad if they are gone and we can buy what we want with out playing a game of bad chance. The fact you could spend 10s, hundreds, or even thousands and not get what you want is absurd. It’s an anticonsumer practice to drain us of more money then the items are worth.

I think the only way they will be considered gambling is if they are obtained via a direct purchase mechanism that is backed up by cash. In other words if they are purchased via the Crown Store with Crowns. If they are given away via daily rewards, Twitch or some similar mechanism they are not gambling and are nothing more than a random gift box. Since a giveaway is not gambling ZOS doesn't have to quit awarding Crown Crates unless they decide they no longer want to.

Crown crates, loot boxes, grab bags, whatever shouldn't exist in any game(unless you specifically play a gambling/casino game) the whole idea that they add money to improve the game is a farce. Making quality work and shipping out FINISHED quality work improves your long term goals. But even single player games aren't free from microtransactions. Aaaand we get half finished product that may or may not get patched, dlc, etc later on.

I do remember when rp and fantasy gamers were the odd ducks, and even when games like EQ came out quality was still a factor. Unfortunately someone found a way to ramp up the quarterly profits with minimal overhead and the gaming industry changed direction. And just as bad there are enough of us that make it a profitable venture. Ah well, things change, I walked to school uphill both ways and back in my day quality mattered more and all that jazz. But there used to be a saying, "i don't mind a man trying to make a living off of me, but don't try to make a killing" loot boxes are just lazy quick money grabs that show me you don't care for your own product.
