Is it just me – grateful to ZOS and happy with Murkmire?

Today I was exploring Murkmire, and what I saw is a zone done very carefully and with great attention to every detail. It is full of big intriguing things and small details. Exciting details await everywhere! Amazing new costumes. Argonian are terrific, but female Khajiit clothes just left me speechless. Incredible plants. I felt like a curious child when tried to crouch to a plant – it was… hiding in the ground when I approached! Argonian culture – alien as it should be, not a dissolved, average Tamrielic way of life. Music instruments and Argonian songs… oh my, I love it! A new home… a Xanmeer… yes, I will never afford it. I wish I could. So creative and so beautiful. I will just roam there via preview option to enjoy the asthenosphere.

A whole new world to be explored, so bright, so vivid, mysterious and unique. I’m happy with Murkmire, and I really want to thank @ZOS team for this incredible meticulous work. And I’m really happy to have a Haj Mota pet!

Apparently they nerfed frame rates on Mac by a significant margin and shipped it anyway. I didn’t play last night because I dumped my significant other over it. So I’m sure I’ll have more to add once I’ve bothered to logon again. [snip]

Like why would a they ship a patch that drops frame rates on Mac by 10 to 20 FPS? Speaks volumes.

Content wise it's meant to be pretty amazing (feedback from friends), balance wise it's controversial, stability/bug wise it needs a incremental quote badly.

so, if i log in and give it a try but don't like it, i'm worried i'll lose interest.

They've continued to up the quality of every DLC/Zone since Orsinium, the love and attention going into the stories and world design is amazing.

I have to agree with this. No matter how other aspects go in ESO, art team has never failed to amaze me. Same goes for stories. So kudos to those who brings the good stuff.

But to make an overall Murkmire comment, no. I can't say it's amazing at all. First i figured out the rewards for the worthy boxes are not dropping new sets as they are supposed to, then i got rekt hard by 2 blood craze hits which procced 7 (SEVEN!) enchants on me. So i thought meh it's not a good time for pvp and went to Murkmire to quest. And realized the performance was horrible in that zone. As bad as i never have in anywhere else. So i thought meh the patch day is as always. Wanted to test a few different builds around. Oops, can't use any of the mundus stones in any house, nor crafting stations.

In the end there was so little to do, and i continued questing even tho it was mostly below 30 fps :(

    I have mixed feelings.
The GOOD. New zone does look very nice in general. Scenes with NPCs are quite well programmed. Delves are gorgeous.

The SO-SO. While this zone looks really cute and detailed I noticed that all this extra vegetation causes drops in fps. It is still playable, but slightly less smooth than in old zones. The new manor is ok, but not as good as I though. It turned out to be gloomier than on videos.

The UGLY. For now my Sorc is only good for exploring its overland till I figure out the way around nerfs or ZOS reverts changes...

Come on! The day before patch I did veteran BC2 and SoA2 with no deaths (at least from my side), but yesterday I died to a poison cloud and my pet to a tick bite in a common delve? Am I supposed now to have food buffs for overland content? Well, that still won't help with squishy pet.
    What the heck?

You are the kind of player ZOS designed Murkmire for. I don't mean that to be disparaging! I'm really glad you're enjoying it.

Many of the vocal players on the forums don't prioritize environments, costumes, plants, exploration, etc. Many of us started playing the game because it offered

    - classes that feel balanced and rewarding in challenging combat situations
    - well-designed open world PVP, regardless of whether you preferred large-scale, small-scale, or solo play
    - engaging endgame PVE group content that always kept you on your toes while still allowing you to feel strong

Murkmire has taken huge steps backward on all three of those issues, even as the things you mentioned that you are most excited about have become some of the games strongest points. I'm happy for you and players like you, but it's still sad to think about what the game used to offer.

I agree with you on this. I started to play ESO just because it is offers an ocean of lore and a lot of TES world I love so much. But still, like you, I wish gameplay was better. About a year ago I undrestood that ESO will never be comfortable for me in gameplay aspect. So, I just don't pay attention to combat, classes, CPs and all that things. I will never l2p, so... I just enjoy things I can enjoy.

    Sorta.

I want to remain optimistic, and I want to believe there's a larger vision.

For example, the change to active dodge, where you have to be dodging a second before the hit, rather than the cast. That's a change I can get behind. It was pretty dumb when an enemy player or dungeon boss casts something, I dodge, then projectile finally gets to me and "DODGE" pops up, that just looked ridiculous. On the other hand, the change where resistances apply before hitting shields makes no sense to me. Magic shields are magic shields. The resistances and bonuses underneath shouldn't affect them, they should be a thing onto themselves.

I want to believe that they have a large, long-term vision of where they want their game to end up, mechanically speaking. What kind of combat they want to foster. The problem is how slow and piecemeal they are implementing these changes, and they're not communicating this vision to us. Probably for fear that they won't be able to deliver it as described.

It's not just you. I like the changes and I play a magsorc. I can still do all the content I did before, solo dungeons, wb's etc. I had to adjust a little but it's not a big deal. I really don't know why there is all the whining there is about it.

Probably just you, or maybe a handful of people more. I don't know why, but most DLCs make me want to go and spend money elsewhere, which is exactly what I did last night.

Can't even rely on my warden wings to run around the map at decent speed. Now I need to recast it every 5 seconds.... seriously? Not to mention the pile of new achievements I'll never be able to get. What's the point of working towards a goal if that goal keeps moving farther away.

I have not stepped foot in the new area. Perhaps I'll find it so spectacularly amazing that it'll change my mind. But.... I probably won't.

I think the word "grateful to ZOS" is totally out of place in this context. If the zone and quests are well designed and you think you got what you paid for then they're just being honorable businessmen.

Then there are those of us who expect well-thought-out combat balance and bug-free content for their money instead of fancy mount giveaways...

Well, I'm grateuful to people who really thought hard on how to make new content interesting. People who created ideas, made models, animated the plants, "planted" grass and "built" ruins. These people are not to be blamed for bugs and nerfs. They are the ones who care of us players. So, they deserved it - to be thanked.

As for balance... I gave up long ago. I want to play stam DD, and I can't. I'm a solo player, and pet sorc was my only hope. Now it is lost. Why are they doing it? Well... maybe some big idea is behind it, definitely not to take all fun out of the game. Oh, but frankly, I hate changes. As soon as I get used to new balance and combat, things go head over heels again. Definitely not happy with it and not grateful for that.

As someone who has played Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, I can safely say I'm someone who didn't play ESO for the PvP or group content. As someone who is moreso annoyed by Skuldafn being where Blacklight should be.

While I do think that the combat isn't anything to write home about, I never felt that it has in ESO. Nor have I ever really gotten that feeling of really dynamic combat from any Elder Scrolls game (the closest being Skyrim's). But I'm fine with ESO's combat not being as dynamic as, say, Warframe's. Would that have made the game better? Probably. But I still enjoy ESO for what it is, and care a lot more about the lore than the combat. And at the very least, ESO's combat makes me feel stronger than WoW's combat ever did.

I always choose Argonian as the race to play as in every Elder Scrolls game I've played. They're by far my favorite race, and I've always been fascinated by their lore. So to see how much care was put into Murkmire from a lore-perspective is honestly all I, personally, could have ever wanted or asked for from Murkmire.
