The transmuted icon on gear traits drives me crazy

Am i the only one that doesn't like to wear pieces that were transmuted? I'm farming pieces just so I can get rid of the transmuted tainted ones that i'm wearing. Opening the same undaunted chests, running the same dungeon over and over again. I really hate transmuted traits. I would be ok if it didn't show the icon reminding me that it's a fake piece, what can I do?

Yes, it does feel like a badge of shame. Even more so for me because it is really hard for me to earn transmutation crystals. Sometimes I'll go "why the flippity flop did I waste precious crystals on this? Oh yeah, because I'm a hardcore RPer..."

The icon is needed to signal that the item's (new) trait can't be researched from it by any of your alts. Obviously the character who did it knew the trait, so wouldn't need to do so.

I'm not sure why the research limitation exists, as you can more easily make a new piece for an alt to research, and it isn't a cheat of any kind. My guess would be that the original trait is still part of the item's record, but flagged as replaced by the transmute, so the research code would be looking in the wrong place. It's easier to stop research on the item than to make allowances for transmutation.

And I wouldn't call it fake. It has been "corrected" to the trait you wanted, and is just as genuine as if you'd found it that way.

If it is a badge of shame I shall wear it with pride and honor. I DO NOT want to farm endlessly for certain armor/weapons and NEVER get the trait I need. If it's a weapon it will drop in training. If it's armor it will drop in invigorating. I despise RNG so much after so many attempts for certain gear and monster sets. I ran maelstrom arena and got the bow on my fifth try. Sadly it dropped in charged, but I instantly transmuted it. No shame here

Sure the icon is annoying. But the alternative (perpetually farming for a trait that may never drop for you) is much worse than that minor aesthetic blemish.

Sounds like you love to be abused by RNG. I have no problem transmuting gear, especially monster shoulders or vMA gear

There is an easy fix to the issue. Stop changing the trait to gear.

What shame is there in making something work better for you? Shame because you didn't let a random number generation determine the fate of the trait of the piece? Do you flip a coin to decide directions to go? Should we only drink potions that randomly drop from mobs? There is no taint there. Its only as fake as any piece crafted or item re-glyphed. Take a hold of the steering wheel and control your journey so you can have fun along the way I say.

Keep on farming until you get the one you want that matches the transmute item then replace it. Of course this doesn't work if its a dropped piece and you changed it to Nirnhoned :P

Think of it as a badge of honour that you were able to gather the crystals, be it by your efforts in the war or defeating dungeons, and you had the expertise to transmute.

I mean, I was never gonna get a nirnhoned weapon to drop anyways.

My main wears a transmuted cuirass and it's not like it glows or anything

As always, add a "Toggle" option for showing the icon or not. ZOS never learns.

I got so many transmutation gems piling up that if I were in your situation I would transmute gear back and forth until all looked transmuted and the same.

Yeah, my non crafter chars are perpetually taunted by those researchable icons when sifting through the inventory, i should totally be allowed to toggle it.
Not to mention the intricate and ornate icons, I usually sell the formers and decon the latters out of spite; an option to toggle those is quite necessary, too.

May as well add a note saying THIS PIECE OF GEAR HATES YOU FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO IT and stick an angry emoji on it like a scarlet letter.

I've transmuted one piece of gear. It's not for me.
