You seem like the type of cat who'd give his banking info to a "Nigerian prince" who sent you an e-mail.
I have a feeling the 'second person' wasn't a second person at all, but the dude utilizing a second account on another computer.
If you're going to risk trading gold for crowns, record it so you have evidence. Also, if the price sounds too good to be true, that means it prooobably is.
That's what I do.Mephisto939 wrote: »I have a feeling the 'second person' wasn't a second person at all, but the dude utilizing a second account on another computer.

Possibly but it was on Xbox, not pc. The price was about 100 per crown. From now on I will only buy from guildies.

"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.”

Someone was trying to sell a vMA staff in zone chat the other day. I think it was vMA. It was gold and rare and powerful. Linked item showed a half-full charge bar and "bind on pickup" in the corner. Thought at first it was new player that didn't know they couldn't sell those. Then realized a new player probably wouldn't have the staff to begin with.

I don't understand the purpose of the second person coming along after you'd already agreed to trade. Why not just take your gold and log off?
I've heard of this kind of scam being used to convince a victim to trust the scammer, but only before the victim has agreed to trade. For example someone's standing in town offering to sell crowns, a second person agrees to buy and they conduct the transaction in /zone to make a show of it all going through ok so other people will trust the seller.
(There's dozens of other variations, including seemingly risky ones like someone offering to sell an item for far more than it's worth then a second person calls them out as a scammer for selling such a rare and valuable item too cheaply - so potential buyers who feel confident they can recognise the genuine item (because it actually is fairly common - think Kuta for example) but don't know the current value will jump on the opportunity to get it at what's obviously an unbelievable bargain price and will only find out they've been scammed when they see it for sale again later on.)
I'm not saying this wasn't a scam, I just don't understand what the added delay of fake customer adds to it.

I think Zos official response to this was "buyer beware". Ingame gold is a fictional currency. They can't really do much if someone tricks you into parting with it for free.

We'll see what they say. It's bad for business to have trash people scamming.
I've said it once and I'll say it again.
ESO needs a Crowns to Gold and vice versa conversion system that is based on demand. Done.
Need crowns? Head to the crown store exchange tab, select the Gold to crowns tab and exchange away.
It comes complete with a graph showing the evolution of the transactions and what is the current value of both currencies.
But i guess they are busy nerfing the game to oblivion, so...
