Crown selling scam

A guy advertised he was selling crowns in zone, so we strike a deal. A third person joined the group and he says he will do him first. It looks legit bc the guy buying is also 780. He says thanks and leaves as if he got his stuff. Then he says my turn. I give him the gold and *poof* he logs out. The first guy is on the scam to make it look credible. ZOS needs to implement some type of transaction feature for crowns.

You seem like the type of cat who'd give his banking info to a "Nigerian prince" who sent you an e-mail.
Unless you are willing to be a mindless sycophant and/or coddle others due to their insecurities prepare to be harrased by the Orwellian enforcers on these forums. You should also try to refrain from using any words more complex than those used by a small child due to the fact that said enforcers have made it clear that their vocabulary pool is aenemic.

Send the evidence to ZOS -screenshots, videos, etc.

I don't trade gifts for gold at all, but thanks for the heads up about the latest scam.

Buy crowns? You lazy person! Do what everyone else does and fight for them! That Ruby Throne isn't going to sit on itself now.
You only need three things in life: love, a cold drink, and a sense of humour. : Said the guy who owns this account (Sorry I don't have a better role model who's quote I could steal instead)

I have a feeling the 'second person' wasn't a second person at all, but the dude utilizing a second account on another computer.

If you're going to risk trading gold for crowns, record it so you have evidence. Also, if the price sounds too good to be true, that means it prooobably is.

Possibly but it was on Xbox, not pc. The price was about 100 per crown. From now on I will only buy from guildies.

    First things first.

Let's recognize that crashes, disconnects, and internet problems happen. Always, always have a bit of patience and take steps to resolve the issue with the person in question before making assumptions.

There was once someone who threw a fit in one of my guild chats claiming someone was "scamming" them because they didn't instantly get what they were asking for. Turns out the person had internet problems, and was able to get back on a few hours later and they completed the deal. Of course, the damage was already done by that point. Fortunately, there were others in guild chat who called this person out on their assumptions. So I'm calling you out on yours.

That said, do still document. It's possible it wasn't an honest mistake. But understand that Zenimax will need evidence it was something other than an honest mistake if they're to hold this person accountable.

Take screenshots. Send the names of both players to ZOS. They have been investigating these sort of situations and it's possible they will take action against them. Also make sure that your chatbox has a confirmation of your proposed trade as proof.

I'm sorry for your lost if gold, but dude... Is this your first MMO, online game of any sort or even human interaction ever? The cynic in me will always say it's a scam. 101% of times. If you can't use COD, it's a scam. Guaranteed. Anything on /z is either venomous, poisonous or toxic in some sort.
Again, I'm sorry, and I hope you can have some sort of reply from ZoS but I wouldn't hold hope too high.

And even with guildie, make sure they are known and old in the guild. New people have been joining guilds just to fork people and leave.

I don't understand the purpose of the second person coming along after you'd already agreed to trade. Why not just take your gold and log off?

I've heard of this kind of scam being used to convince a victim to trust the scammer, but only before the victim has agreed to trade. For example someone's standing in town offering to sell crowns, a second person agrees to buy and they conduct the transaction in /zone to make a show of it all going through ok so other people will trust the seller.

(There's dozens of other variations, including seemingly risky ones like someone offering to sell an item for far more than it's worth then a second person calls them out as a scammer for selling such a rare and valuable item too cheaply - so potential buyers who feel confident they can recognise the genuine item (because it actually is fairly common - think Kuta for example) but don't know the current value will jump on the opportunity to get it at what's obviously an unbelievable bargain price and will only find out they've been scammed when they see it for sale again later on.)

I'm not saying this wasn't a scam, I just don't understand what the added delay of fake customer adds to it.

Someone was trying to sell a vMA staff in zone chat the other day. I think it was vMA. It was gold and rare and powerful. Linked item showed a half-full charge bar and "bind on pickup" in the corner. Thought at first it was new player that didn't know they couldn't sell those. Then realized a new player probably wouldn't have the staff to begin with.

You can get these items linked with "bind on pickup" if you happen to know the code. Uesp is a good source for many, so it's easy to make it now appear "bound". Silly simple.

I think Zos official response to this was "buyer beware". Ingame gold is a fictional currency. They can't really do much if someone tricks you into parting with it for free.

It was a con to make me think the dude was legit because person X paid up front (which I would normally be hesitant to do) and got his stuff. Obviously they have done this scam before.

A player tried to scam me for 500k gold in my alternate account. Luckily record everything, report the player and this they said in Support.

    Good Luck!

I think that is a very unfair comment for the OP, and really something that could happen to anyone. And for the OP, next time I would advise joining a guild and doing those typle of transactions only with people you trust. If you open a ticket with ZOS, most likely they can look at the logs to see what transpired. Hope you get your gold back and the other party gets a perma-ban.

I'm pretty sure they've already addressed it. This isn't the first time this has come up.

My advice: don't buy from random people you dont know.

I've said it once and I'll say it again.
ESO needs a Crowns to Gold and vice versa conversion system that is based on demand. Done.

Need crowns? Head to the crown store exchange tab, select the Gold to crowns tab and exchange away.
It comes complete with a graph showing the evolution of the transactions and what is the current value of both currencies.

But i guess they are busy nerfing the game to oblivion, so...

I'd rather believe in miracles than this because it won't happen.

ZOS is notorious for milking their player-base if possible as long as whales bites the deal because poor/average players are not the target market in the first place, you'd be surprised how these players are willing to spend money on this game especially seniors whom just uses their pension to pay the costly crown items.

This is always a possibility when you participate in ZOS- sanctioned gold selling. *shrug* Shady practices like gold selling have a tendency to attract shady people.

Only buy from people you know, or alternatively, use the Crown gifting system only when you legitimately want to send someone a gift.
