Speed & Sneak Builds for Non-Combat Farming

Hi, I just wanted to share with you my favorite out-of-combat build that doesn't require active skills or potions. If this extremely obvious to you, my apologies, please move on. This build will require a stamina-centered character for long periods of sprinting. Specific to the sneaking, it works best with a Khajit or Bosmer Nightblade but it's not necessary.

All we need are four sets: Jailbreaker, Night's Silence, Night Terror and Might Mother's Embrace. These are all medium, and preferably well-fitted (not much difference for the last two).
The key is how we assign the pieces to make them flexible.

For the speed build, use any 5 pieces of Jailbreaker armor plus Night's Silence swift jewelry and 2 more pieces. You get 2 open slots; I chose to leave the weapons free so I can use my main battle weapons in a pinch. If I've done my math right you'll get minimum of 34% speed boost at all times from swift (blue quality) and Jailbreaker, up to 45% with gold jewelry and The Steed. You can still use Major Expedition if you like. While sprinting, apply the 40% sprint bonus plus 21% from a 7-piece medium armor passive and you get 95% to 100% boost (hit the cap with gear alone). As an added bonus, you can sneak without losing speed!

Now for the crime build, we'll include that Night's Silence jewelry plus one armor piece and a weapon swap. We'll use one weapon swap for either Night Terror or Night Mother's Embrace, and fill the remaining armor slots to form a 3-piece of Night Terror and a 5-piece of Night Mother's Embrace. Now on one hand, we have a fairly sneaky build that can move at normal speed (enhanced by that swift jewelry and possibly Concealed Weapon). Swap to the other hand for the extra sneak radius when you're in a tight spot. (You may need to become visible and hide again for the change to take effect, due to a game glitch.)

Let me know of this was helpful and how you think it stacks up with other techniques.

If you really want to have high speed without using skills it's pretty neat but in my opinion nothing beats Fiord's + Darkstride. Cheap sprint allows you to cast rapids every 30 seconds and not bother with crafting swift jewelry from a set that doesn't really benefit you.

Sneaking setup is also decent but I've never bothered with Night's Terror. Those 2 meters from Night Mother's combined with faster sneak from Night's Silence (or being a vampire and then you can go for Night's Terror) are more than enough to sneak past pretty much anything.

Vampire passive dark stalker lets you sneak at normal running speed too. Can it be additive to this build idk tho

stamwarden Orc in fiords, with jailbreaker can move quite fast for a while before running out of stamina too. Had darkstride but swapped that for jailbreaker.

I believe that's above the cap though. Jailbreaker is nice if you are not going to sprint but why not sprint if you are using Fiord's?

Well fitted Fiords + darkstride for me, stam regen glyphs. Rapids as needed. Never run out of stamina

Darkstride is good, but I think I don't need it because my main has a stam build with the Bosmer passives, and I stop frequently enough that I only run out of stamina if I'm marathoning, or just out of battle.

As for vampire, I don't use it but obsoleting Night's Silence is definitely something to consider here. I still recommend swift jewelry because it works at all times, and it's nice to have that boost while you're walking or crouching. Crafting jewelry is a pain until plating prices drop, but you can also transmute.

I've just recently switched back to my Bosmer stamblade thief as my overland main.

The key lies in three active skills:
    • Concealed Weapon for the sneak speed buff. Note that this means I can NOT have Surprise Attack on this stamina character.
    • Retreating Maneuvers both for the general speed buff and to let me escape guards on the very rare occasions I'm caught.
    • Shadowy Disguise both to get into stealth faster and to get me through tight spots.

The net is that I can sneak at 25% over normal walking speed, plus have Major Expedition on top of that. Of course, if I'm going a long distance, I can just mount up and still have Retreating Maneuvers, which by the way lets me get out of any attempted ccs as I ride by mobs who lack anger management skills.

For gear I'm going with 5 Night's Silence/5 Night Terror/1 orphan/1 unmatched Kragh's on my sneak bar, with 5 Night Terror making sense because the weapon there is DW. When I flip around to my bow bar I go 3/3/5/1, where the 3s are Night Terror and Agility, and the 1 is unmatched Kragh's. That works fine. Surely 5 Night's Silence/5 Night Terror/2 matched monster would be even better, but I've been too lazy to get the missing piece of jewelry I'd need to make that happen.

Of course, vampire would be "better" yet, but on this character I just refuse for looks/RP reasons.

The whole thing is a lot of fun. I can zip around quickly in the countryside (avoiding fights!) and cities alike. I already have a thieving build if I wind up somewhere I'd like to loot. And if it's a little weaker than other builds on the combat side -- well, I'm at max CP, so what do I need an optimal build for when I'm overland?? Besides, I'm on the PC, so if I AM going to do something harder, like solo a dolmen or geyser, switching to a full combat build just takes 2 mouse clicks (plus a bit more effort to verify that the add-on actually did what it should :) ).

I use Fiord's and Prisoners Rags for farming. Nice sprint bonus and never run out of stamina.

You can sneak at 100% speed (the cap) so you never have to actually sprint or be detected:

    Vampire (ignore sneak penalty)
    Concealed weapon (25% speed)
Double Take (30% speed... can be cast while in stealth!)
    5pc Jailbreaker (10% speed)
    Swift traits (30% speed)
    The Steed (5% speed)
You can even exceed the cap to 102% speed if you have Windrunning passive in the CP tree.

    - Toss on a 5pc set like Shacklebreaker for the extra mag/stam resources and mag/stam regen for nonstop sneaking.
    - Use 1pc Dominhaus for extra mag/stam resources
    - Use 1pc bloodspawn/stonefist/swarm mother OR chokethorn/shadowrend for extra stam/mag regen
    - If you're a bosmer- you can enchant your jewelry with mag regen for more cloaks/doubletakes

You never have to leave stealth and you can enjoy your thieving/assassinating in complete darkness. Enjoy. ;)
Want to enjoy the game more? Try both PvP (crybabies) and PvE (carebears). You'll get a better perspective on everyone's opinion.

Coward's Gear + Prisoner's Rags. As a magsorc I can use Streak as many as I want and use Dark Deal for infinite stamina.
