Is Altmer Warden tank a real option? Also some other race/tank options...

I have been wanting to try tanking but I have all my character slots filled up plus I bought one already (yikes!).
I was wondering about trying tanking with one of my pre-exciting characters. I saw Woeler lists Altmer as one of the races for warden tank. Just wondered if that would be a viable not ridiculously difficult thing. My other option is a Redgaurd Sorc. I also have a Bosmer Warden. Which of these three would be the best for being able to learn to tank and maybe reach vet level. Or am I better off just deleting a character? I really don't play the redgaurd sorc too much currently. TIA!

You could try bloodspawn/dragon guard/ werewolf hide and make an ulti gen tank with the warden and spam thicket. From what I've heard, those builds are very survivable. You need a decent mag pool and mag regen for such a build which altmer will give you. You just need to allocate points to health as you'll be lacking there.
    Zaghigoth- Orc Stamplar
    Soul Razor- Altmer Magsorc
    Les Drago- Redguard Stamdk
    Eirius- Altmer Magdk
    Stormifeth- Altmer Magplar

Disclaimer: My comments are a little sarcasm mixed with truth. If you can't handle that don't respond to me.

Are those sword and board builds or sword and board a mind frost staff builds? I have read with intrest about frost tanks when ever I see something posted. I guess I was wondering if I could just follow the woeler warden build with an alter just like the argonian, orks and imperial that he listed.

Sure why not? particularly if you are using the Livewire/Thunderbug build.

I have a Breton Templar tank, I have slammed into the spell resist cap with the restoring focus buff. Having a Mag regen and cost reduction is useful for a tank.

Tanks race doesn't matter much. One of the top tanks is a kajhit. Tanking is much more dependant on your gear and skills that you use. After that it is all about being able to lead and control the battle. Just follow any recent tank build and you will be fine.

Personally my warden tank is a Nord who is primarily a magic build, as I also heal on him. So I only have 2 Stam skills on my bar, heroic slash and Peirce armor. Armor is sentinel of rkugams, livewire and sanctuary. I switch out sanctuary for ebon if the healer is already wearing it. Which happens a lot.

Woeler destroyed tanks, so I wouldn't listen to him for anything. An altmer is it doable yep. But when his altmer tank dies mine would be standing there laughing saying what did we learn...lol PvE is easier to tank in so learning wouldn't be a big problem. PvP I just came face to face with emp and he couldn't kill me and he certainly tried. If I were not an Argonian I don't know I would have made it. My tank buddy has an orc DK good tank, emp took him down. I would search far and wide for the best tanks and learn from them. Idk know what woeler does but I don't think playing a tank like a dps is a viable option. Nothing personal against Woeler just wish he was interested in making tanks more Tank than damage dealer. Honestly he confuses me on the choices that are being made. Just waiting to see how bad the roles actually get after all these changes, I'm looking for a new game that lets tanks be tanks. If anyone who knows could answer this, is he going to be involved with fallout 76? I'm getting close to just avoiding thus company altogether just over this crap. Between them breaking every other thing in the game and destroying permablock tanks. I really am not happy with the direction TESO is going. Fix my tank back please and I will be very happy to deal with game breaking bugs. Sidenote anyone he thinks up sloads as an anti tank set doesn't really know what is going on. Sorry bro but wtf?

My altmer magden can tank as well, so that’s a viable option (uses snb and frost staff). I do also have a redguard sorc tank so can vouch for that from experience. But as others have stated, unless you’re an argonian, what race you choose for tank doesn’t make a huge difference. Learning the fights, understanding mechanics and positioning, etc. will make you a much more successful tank than any race or gear will.

@Spartabunny08 I think you’re thinking of Wrobel, the lead combat designer (or some title to that effect). Woeler is a well-known end game community player who mains tank.

Thanks for the correction the names of the two are interchanging in my mind. So they don't collaborate and is sloads also Wrobel?

I don’t believe that any community members collaborate with ZOS. The closest you get is the class reps (and I don’t believe that Woeler is one of them), but afaik the extent of their relationship with ZOS is as a feedback channel to help ZOS understand the primary concerns of the community, not to actually collaborate with for ideas. And I’m not sure the extent to which the combat team makes gear-related decisions, either. As a lead, I’d assume that Wrobel works more on overseeing large-scale goals for ESO’s combat system (e.g., we want sustain vs. damage to be more of a consideration, we want proc sets to be less powerful in PvP, or we want snares to have a more consistent potency/duration balance) than on the specific changes and fixes that go into the patch notes. But I don’t know ZOS’ team models.

Altmer Warden is perfectly viable. Warden tanks end up using a lot of magic skills, as a lot of their toolkit is about heal tanking and group buffs. The magic and regen will certainly be helpful.

Is it the best race, well no, but tank is probably the roll where race is least important. Woeler played a Khajiit for the longest time (maybe he still does). Argonian and Imperial will be better, but Altmer will work just fine. I just spec'ed my redguard warden to level undaunted as a tank, and it was a breeze. Took me like a week of dailys. I used Woeler's build for the most part and it worked great.

Ironically, the only toon I have left to level undaunted (other than my lvl 4 orc DK that will probably never get leveled) is my altmer warden. I have him spec'd as a healer currently, but I might just spec him as a tank to finish it off as groupfinder goes much faster.

Thank you all for your answers. I got really confused for a bit with the the Woeler side discussion but it got cleared up! I feel like I will give the Altmer tank a go.
