Magicka Sorcs, why do you jump all the time?

I heard, that at times a character in general can avoid snares that way. Not sure, if that's true...
You reveal yourself best in how you play.

Farel Donvu - Dark Elf Sorcerer
Navam Llervu - Dark Elf Dragonknight
    Aniseth - Wood Elf Warden
    Therediel - Wood Elf Templar

    Jurupari - Argonian Warden
    Kú-Chulainn - Argonian Sorcerer

One additional thing I forgot to mention was jumping means your toon ignores the very dumb self snaring instant cast skills that for some reason exist in this game. Like MagBlades Refreshing Path gives major expedition, but the weird cast mechanic means you stutter as you cast it, slowing you down.

if they're doing it for no reason then there's no "why" to it, but when i'm PvPing at range i seem to change direction at random because then people can't use prediction to target me; they have to rely on twitch. same reason you "zig-zag" when seeking cover from a sniper in real life.

You said it like ESO is non-target game :D

Haha good point! Nerf sorc runs deep! They got the blame for souls assault deaths in another thread earlier lol

Because the OP was speaking from a magsorc perspective.

That is how I leveled up in Morrowind and Obivion. I can' remember if that was a Daggerfall skill as well. So for almost 20 years, I am just use to jumping. I also do it when I play any character not just sorcerer. Old habit to break. Even Geralt jumps a lot. LMFAO.

It's good for his legs XD, jump Witcher jump!

Too much sugar in the cereal at breakfast? Need to get to the bathroom in a hurry? Hemoroids? Personaly, my sorc has too much dignity to be seen jumping like a oat in public but he does on occassion in private at his house.

I recall the necessity of jumpin playing Quake back in the day, but I haven't had the need to do it since.

He names all normal 3 reasons, Line of Sight around your environment (Hills, & Boxes etc), LOS to target players just behind another player, and avoiding some Self Snaring Mechanics inherent in the game.

it seems like i'm not familiar with the terminology you're using here.

to guess, PC can't be that different, can it? if i want to hit a target on Xbox i have to put my sighting reticle inside the outline of a player during the time when i hit the button to activate a target-dependant skill (or LA). if my reticle is outside the outline when i activate the skill it will either miss or not fire unless it's one of those ground-based ones or a self-targeted one. if it's more difficult to hit somebody with an offensive skill, then it's more difficult to hit somebody with an offensive skill, right?

I don't jump all the time but when I bounce it's actually on purpose for the following reason...

I studied martial arts for many years and one thing you lean is that motion helps to mask motion. This is why many competitive martial artists bounce back and forth on the balls of their feet. It helps to prevent you from telegraphing your strikes.

I'm not sure how much it really helps in this game, but that's why I do it in combination with animation canceling.

Personally, i jump because its something i did often in Halo and WoW and it just kinda carried over, i jump on all my toons..

Whats your reason that you "Spam jump"?

This is my FAVOURITE forum question mainly cos of the answers. Of Which I think many are intended to keep a veil of mystery about it!!

      1. Total Banter innocent joke replies.
      2. Those that 'know' about jumping
      3. Those that jump but aren't sure why but do it just in case
      4. Those that have 'always' jumped as it did stuff in other games
      5. Those who want to know as think they should be jumping
      6. Gummie Bears

From what I can understand the main reasons are to help movement, in particular on console, to help keep block up or to help timing. Many say about being harder to hit / altering hit boxes bur I'm unsure that it actually does it.

Many call for jumping in combat to cost stamina ^ if it did help targeting harder I'm sure ZOS would Do that.

I agree! I love to read the replies and what people say in comms, everyones got a slightly different story to it and its always fun to hear :D Halo is by far the biggest reason why i jump so much, all i did in Halo was jump to make my head harder to hit while in game, kinda have the same mentality here but.. obv a headshot doesnt deal more damage :p

For me it's a timing thing. I know on a magsorc, the main combo rotation i do is Conjured War, Curse, Jump, Light attack, Conjured ward, Frag proc (if lucky), curse explodes, runecage, frag out, jump to execute. I know two jumps in a row is the time it takes for curse to go off. idk it's weird but it's like a rotation for me personally. On Stam sorc, always running, no jumping. Constantly buffed and major/minor expedition up with a HoT going on.

Answers like this is why i LOVE this question :D everyones got a unique "thing" to it

"We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available."
      — They always claim they’re “investigating” the causes, but in reality they’re just waiting until the PC EU players go to bed. Once that happens, you can suddenly log in again and they happily mark the issue as Fixed.

Healing ward incurs a momentum penalty of some sort sometimes. It's not consistent but if you jump and then cast the ward you'll already be moving and therefore you aren't getting weirdly slowed.

So people just started jumping all the time just it happens on other skills too but mostly out of habbit.

Im not a mag sorc but personally i started jumping because it felt fluid if that makes any sense. Like a rhythm. Like a placeholder that is only another button you're weaving while you attack. But over time i realized it was actually a very good tactic to make you harder to target and hit..

      Not true.
My favorite thing to do is hit a dizzy swing on a jumping sorc, knocking them into the air. Because of the extra hight of the fall, I can usually get a second dizzy swing in while they try to recover and hit the ground.
Never understood why sorcs do this, it doesn't make you harder to hit, it makes you extra vulnerable when you get hit mid-jump.
