What's the purpose of those high speed PVP clips?

Apart from showing that Y class is viable for 1vX? I mean, mostly you cant understand what exactly the guy is doing, skills are used too quickly to notice rotations, music tracks hide all useful combat sounds so you barely learn something from those vids, and yet, majority of clips are like that. I mean, pro players probably rarely watch such clips because they have plenty of their own and for newbies they have very low value..

a) So, pro people, why do you do that?
b) And if you are one of those watchers, do you prefer natural combat pace or hyper speed clips?

I don't watch a ton of pvp vids, but, yeah - I'd prefer regular speed and no music...

thing I learn the lost from these type vids is how to use the environment to break line of sight...

someone recently posted a first person perspective pvp vid...been meaning to watch that...

personally, I enjoy glitch vids the best...

They speed it up to cover up sloppy animation cancelling and sluggish gameplay. Usually the best clips are not sped up.

Actually thats why I like Alcast - maybe he is not the best pvper or theorycrafter, but his builds always have proper gameplay clips to watch him play and to see how is it working in practice.

I speed up the boring parts, like if I have a long kiting session in between dumps I’ll speed that up. If anything important happens, that happens at normal speed .

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a PvP vid where the poster speeds up the whole thing. If anything, the trend seems to be making the important parts slow-mo.

Are you sure that the vids are sped up and not just demonstrating proper animation cancelling?

Actually clips even without speed up, but with music track which covers all the sounds gives me a headache too - I would understand music along with combat sounds, sometimes it really works great, but not when completely overwriting all game sound.

Well, maybe I dont play those meta classes which have big number of high quality vid makers :) I usually looking for stamplars and stamdks..

EDIT: Its not a rant topic, actually, just curious why :)

My biggest problem with those video are that the image quality is really low. They haven't used a high quality encoding (and YT destroys that when you upload), so images look all very unclear. It demands a rather powerful computer to both play with reasonable high FPS and encode (recording in background) what you are doing. Those players doesn't have an interest in sacrifice a tiny bit of performance to make video with high enough quality to actually show what is going on in the battlefield.

Because 1vX is often a process nowadays and it would just get real old to watch the kiting. Most people slow down select bits of their vids.

As an answer to your questions @Valabrog :

I don't speed up my clips for example, reason being so people indeed can see what I do if they would like to learn from it or get something out of it. I DO put music in my videos, but if I have recorded gameplay with nobody talking, I also keep that in the video (I am often in a group chat whilst recording and I don't want everyone to hear what we talk about). I also cut out the boring parts and leave my deaths in the final clips so people get a more realistic view about PvP and 1vX'ing.

EDIT - If you are interested:

I'm not a fan of the high speed clips either, it just leaves me wishing the actual game was that fluid. As for music, sometimes I absolutely despise it. If you're making content, get creative. I could watch someone smashing people to Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" or Jim Croce's "Bad Bad Leroy Brown", or something funky like "Get Up Offa That Thing" by James Brown.

If it's something I might hear in a dance club, it's been done to death. Mix it up.

It’s an ego thing. They post their vids to get compliments and it makes them feel good.

Just a couple weeks ago in these forums one guy was calling another famous (in game friend or whatever). lmao I think he was seriously thinking he and the other guy weee famous.

So it’s to feed their ego.

Maybe for some yes, but I actually like the process of making a video and letting people see what a class can do. I wouldn't care for any fame (and I don't have it either). Also, making a lighthearted video about PvP can be fun too for me and others to enjoy.

There's a difference between an educational video and a PvP montage - the latter is really more of an "art project", a way to channel creativity and create something cool (subjective of course) with editing software (and syncing up the music with effects etc). Atleast for me that is.

I've also enjoyed watching the PvP videos other people create ever since the days of vanilla WoW and classics like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWNt_8xcOZw

...sometimes I even find good new songs I hadn't heard before when watching the videos. Sometimes (rarely) I turn down the volume or mute the video entirely.

I loved Grim videos..Along with Zalgradis the paladin :) But hey, WoW had so easy combat to learn that you could easily see what are they doing even without sound..Now ESO has a bit harder learning curve :D If you want to learn, you must use ears, along with eyes..
