I like to run everything through Steam. Can someone tell me if I can use my non steam account on ESO Steam. It's $9.99 on Steam and its well worth it to me.

Yes, you just need to link the accounts, which happen when you buy it from steam - download it - launch the game and it asks if you have a account.

I'd suggest lookign at the number of recent issues running ESO via Steam before committing

Works fine for me, but it has it's issues. But if you link you'll be able to log-in without steam since you link already existing account to a steam one.

Isn't that only in respect of accounts linked before a certain date in, I think, 2016? I may have got that wrong, but it's certainly worth the OP checking and not rushing into this as there are a lot of disgruntled Steam users who wish they hadn't used Steam for ESO.

I bought ESO on Steam and started playing on 2nd July. I linked my Steam account to the ESO game account, and I have yet to see a single problem of the sort everyone seems to be experiencing.

Perhaps the theory on only older accounts suffering any such problems may be true.

Opposite situation: I linked my account to steam and have had nothing but issues, from how long it takes to get logged in (60 - 70 tries) to how awful my FPS is. Got with support, had them help me figure out how to set up my game to exclude steam (as I was getting weird error messages trying to launch direct from the launcher app), and once we got all that sorted, things are SO much better. Yes, my lag is still monstrous - it's satband, it is what it is. But now I get 45 FPS in places like Vivec's crafting area and outside the Alinor bank (with steam that was around 12 FPS both places), and 100 FPS overland.

I'm perfectly happy leaving steam to sit offline forever.

It was, but i believe it works in both ways.

DO NOT link ESO to steam. Extremely bad idea if you like to play ESO.

Cannot remember if it’s 4 or 5 times in the last month steam players couldn’t access the game. At least once was for a day or two.

Edit: Plus what Nestor said below. It makes no sense to connect your game to steam or even buy any new ESO game from steam unless one just likes to invite trouble.

Be smart. Avoid Steam when you have a choice.

Steam offers absolutely no benefit to this game, on any level for any reason. What Steam does do is cause login issues every few weeks where you cant log into this game.

Why do you want to invite this periodic frustration in exchange for no benefit what so ever?

Save Steam for games that are actually integrated into Steam. At least those games dont have the same periodic login issues.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
