Non-CP Cyrodiil or BG - which is better for learning PVP?

As a starting pvper (not a complete newbie), I usually have 750s in BGs around me, I usually die to them (NBs or Sload+Skoria+whatever combo), but sometimes I win, get some kills if i stick to the team and so on. I wonder, is it a good place for me and rookies like me to learn proper PVP? I often see former Emperors or Colonels fighting along with me or against me - rl logic tells me, that playing against the best would temper my skill and I will become better sooner than fighting against noobs. On the other hand - maybe Im just being carried all the way long in BGs without any progress? In Deathmatches I often sit in the bottom with my stamplar never passing 500k mark, while others have dmg over 600/700k or more. I usually top flag games because I run for flags instead of joining fights I never win, at least for now (my gear and build is optimal for PVP).

Also, one thing I have noticed after playing ~200 bgs this month - I never encounter complete noob in bg, there are no free kills for me, everyone is trying to fight back. While on below 50 bg i top scored with 15+ skills in compare to 1 or 2 in other teams, what means those people were totally green. Does this mean that pvp newbies after 50 go to non-cp cyrodiil? Does this mean I will be a god there? Maybe I will find a lot more bad players there than in bg? :)

I think BG's is a better place to learn to PvP, less down time and harder battles. Keep at it, sounds like you're doing well. If you went into the no cp campaign you'd likely already kill many players. BG players seem much more skilled than the average Cyrodiil player.

I’d do both if I were you. Battlegrounds are obviously the ones that will give you almost instantaneous combat experience, but Cyrodiil has its own flavor of gameplay. In my opinion, battlegrounds are a good, quick way to test changes to your build and get more experience with it, but Cyrodiil can be very cool too as long as you avoid the laggy campaign(s).

Personally, Battlegrounds didn’t exist when I started PvPing, so I’m biased towards Cyrodiil. It’s really up to whatever kind of action you prefer though.
Beware the battle cattle, but don't *fear* the battle cattle!

I'd say cyrodiil, but I'd like to add that what you learn to be true in no CP pvp, will not be the same in CP pvp if you decide to do that later, you will need different gear sets and you might go with different resource distributions. I'd still say if you want to have fun and are sub 700CP stay in no-cp cyrodiil till you hit 700cp.

As far as I know, there is a kind of MMR in BG's. And obviously, there isn't in cyrodiil, so, you could meet people that you could kill in one click as well as people who could kill you in one click.
I guess BG's are way better for learning, especially because there isn't much downtime.

BGs for sure. It’s pure combat. Sometimes 1v1, 1v2, 2v2, etc. You won’t waste time fighting in zergs or riding horses.

Thanks for replies people :) My final goal is CP campaign, so every path gonna lead to it. I played some cyro from time to time, but its mostly PvDoor so I decided to forge my starter skills in bg..

As for mmr, minute ago I was in battle with several legates and 123 cp guy in my team who did 23k dmg :) But yea, i will proceed there for some time.

automatically finding a group finding against a small group. BGs are the best even after you learn more pvp. Cryodill is more of a walking simulator and u can go there if u want sieges. Doing overland pvp in Cryodill is a pain cuz sorcs and nbs. Those are problem in BGs too but a smaller one

Both play differently. Playing in Open-World is totally different from BGs, even in no-cp campaigns. Your builds will differ from one to other, skills will differ therefore the way you battle will change, and so on.

Now, if you learn one, it makes it easier to transition to the other, so in the end it doesn't matter which order you do. If you want to do BGs to learn Cyrodil, that's not the way, you learn Cyrodil by... playing in Cyrodil, same for BGs, and same for Duels too.

I have almost entirely stopped playing in Cyro about 8 months ago because of how disgusting lag, zergs, and horse riding simulator is to play in. IMO BG's are where this game shines because you get great fights WITHOUT 500 ping and 10 fps. Sure you encounter premades every once in a while but that just means you have a high MMR

    Bgs hands down.

Smaller scale pvp, where your individual performance actually carries a measurable weight in regards to the outcome of a match, will hone your abilities far better than large scale cyrodil endeavors ever could.

While its silly to pretend there isnt ridiculous lop sided matchups and shear imbalance in certain game modes, it still far outweighs the frequency in which you get meaningful pvp exchnages in cyrodil.

Intimate pvp exeprience where you have to outplay your opponent directly will always translate into more casual cyrodil pvp because a good majority of your ability is underutilized there, where sitting in cyrodil all the time will reinforce bad habits and often for many players, create a mentality that you believe you are better than you truly are.

Start in bgs, get your execution down, get your LOSing down, get your ability to survive pressure from multiple players down, get your combos down. All these things are immediate and frequent and are forced on you in bgs if you dont want to be dead weight on a team and all these skills are absolutely applicable in cyrodil, if only rarely.
