Soul Trap falls flat compared to everything else, since One Tamriel we don't have a problem with filling soul gems while leveling anymore since every soul gem is the same for all levels and we get so many of them that we have enough to ress and charge weapons, with "Soul Lock" passive that fills soul gems with weapon kills, you are always filling them on auto.
So its "utility" is next to useless right now, it's a waste having a DoT that doesn't do any damage (even on mudcrabs), Entropy from mages guild is really useful at least, it gives major sorcery + healing, max magicka, magicka recovery and procs "Empower"...Soul trap morph "Consuming Trap" is a little bit more useful, but the radius is small and only affects 2 targets, but still imo isn't worth having on your bar since you could get much more utility from a lot of other skills, so, I'm confused about which role Consuming Trap should fit, i'm sure it's not for magicka dps (even if you are just farming solo), I don't think it's for tanks either. For pvp, it's not good as well, waste of time and dps and you rarely get any benefit from killing someone while under its effect, while there's a lot of other useful pvp abilities out there (it does next to no damage on mudcrabs even with a "Thaumaturge" dot build, it does even less dmg to players lol). I don't think buffing "Consuming Trap" to affect 3 targets instead of 2 would fix either, it should do more damage.
Soul Shatter (the explosion passive of the same tree) doesn't help it because the dmg is so low that feels like a scretch even on mobs. It's such a let down. It won't save your ass because it does a little dmg to mobs that isn't even noticeable, for real (not exaggerating). If mobs don't feel the pain of the explosion, players won't either, it's less than a scretch to players. The only useful thing that I've found for this passive is that it's a warning sign that I'm screwed and I'm about to get rekt so I better do something to prevent that, and that's it, I'd expect more, not a massive dmg, but SOME dmg at least, the way it is it has no dmg at all.
