I'm more annoyed with thrash items that can't be sold to merchants so you have to manually destroy them.

Well they do have an 'auto loot' function. Just telling someone with that feature on not to pick the item(s) up would be kind of ehh...
It is sometimes annoying, but isn't an immersion breaker for me. There are some things I'd like to be able to sell off to Merchants...like blue motif books. They are everywhere, I usually find all of them by the time I get a character up to CP. The only thing you can do with them is sell them in a trader for a very small profit or destroy them.
Most of the time I'd just prefer not getting them, but then if that were the case and I happened not finding one in the world throughout my character leveling, I'd have to resort to Guild Traders. But if nobody got them, they wouldn't be in there either.
    What to do...what to do..

My understanding is that they used to be worth gold/deconstruction mats, but people from beta were somehow exploiting it? And instead of removing them from the loot table, they instead decreased their value to 0. Doesn't make any sense to me either way.

Yeah, they were a leftover from the dawn of ESO.
Mostly as I understand it, they wanted to have stuff they could leave lying around the place as decoration, yet not have it break their effort/reward system by giving people "free gold" (remember, everything was free to grab back then) or "free crafting stuff". That's why those zero value things never ever drop from mobs, only ever show up lying around the place in plain sight or in furniture containers...

    These days... eh.

I mean, fluff-wise you could assume that all that zero value stuff you find is "broken" somehow, rusty swords, moldy leather, rotten wood, whatever...

It still would be better to remove them from the container loot tables at the very least, and change the stealable "lying around" pieces into proper objects for theft...

    Oh, well. Maybe someday.

Well, and also to give that "Elder Scrolls Game" feel, with lootable objects sitting on tables/shelves/etc. Most of the zero-cost items are the weapons & armor that you can see in the world and loot directly. Containers tend towards crafting mats, lockpicks, food, stolen goods....
It still would be better to remove them from the container loot tables at the very least, and change the stealable "lying around" pieces into proper objects for theft...

Of course, there's a lot of those "lying around" pieces that are not stolen, so that wouldn't help completely.

I've never played with auto-loot on. I don't want 'everything'. There's a lot of junk included in 'everything'. :#

We're not talking about those, we're talking about the white weapons and armor lying around in weapon racks, and sometimes spawning in cabinets/etc.

Instanced loot, which is per player.

Not the "hah, I left crap in this Real Loot node to grief others" stuff like worms and green/blue gear in chests.

In my experance, there is very little that is worth nothing. the only thing that is worthless in weapons & armor found lying about.

Just because NPC value is zero, does not make them worthless. eg

Aetherial dust .. NPC value 0 MM value 75,000 each
Food ingredients - NPC value 0 .. after a little cooking NPC value 5 to 12GP each
Trait & Style Materals - NPC value 0 MM value 6 to 100's each

That is just a quick look in my craft bag

Please continue to not pick up the worms.

I always do pick them up. They're going for about 32 gold each atm. The prices have been higher. In some cases the worms sell for more than the flowers.

everything in my craft bag is worth something.... because it can be used to craft things that can, in turn, be sold for gold.

edit to add: i don't use auto loot for precisely the reason that it is indiscriminate.

Im talking about lvl 1-10 crafting items wood, alchemy items etc. Noone buys it and is usless to many many players. I am just saying that ALL in game items should have a value no matter how small. If it is lootable inventory, it should carry a value greater than 0. Trial npc should carry more than 3 gold also ;)

People buy the snip out of lvl 1 wood and ore. It’s so they can spam it in the refinement window and try to get the gold improvement mats.

FFS. This is about identical items have a cash value sometimes and a zero value other times. This needs to be fixed.

As an aside, yes, some people take all the container contents so that said container respawns.

Their are some dullards that only take purple items from chests and blue runestones.

Good thiing really. I get all the Kuta that they leave behind and the green sharpened Necro sticks.

Yep, more time wasted for us and more inventory slots purchased in the crown store because of the high gold cost to start for new payers....err players.

It took me 19 months or more to finally get all bank slots, and still most of my characters are not maxed inventory after more than 27 months.

I wish that were a valid explanation, but my character already is discriminating on what they loot off a heavily armored enemy. They ignore the enemy's equipped items that could be deconstructed for valuable materials and instead don't loot anything or choose to loot something worth less.

It's also amazing how "foul hides" and "gnawed bones" are worth more than deadly weapons made of metal that could be melted down to use in constructing many things if nothing else. I guess every last vendor has a thing for smelly worthless literal trash that even goblins wouldn't like.

Those same items worth zero also drop on enemies and are in containers that could otherwise contain food or lockpicks or motifs or recipes or bones or some other actual trash item that has some actual value.

And FYI, the worthless zero value weapons and armor did once have a value to sell, but they nerfed that to zero due to farming that wasn't even that lucrative considering each of those items takes up an unstackable inventory slot.

It was just a very stupid knee-jerk mistake they refuse to admit to and correct in any way.

I would rather see foul hides(level 1 trash) than voidsteel(rank 9, cp90-140, material) weapons because I can stack the foul hides and sell them to moron vendors that like trash more than useful items.
No wonder there are farmers in Auridon around Shattered Grove all the time farming those wolves and bears. They drop nothing but stackable worthwhile junk.

Developers think they can stop farming by nerfing valuables, but all that does is move the farm elsewhere since regular players still need rewards somehow. The only way to stop farmers with nerfs is to kill the game's reward system entirely and give us no reason to do any content. The other way, which is smarter and wiser, is to just make everything bound, but that would kill the trading economy. Damned if you do, damned more if you don't.

It wasn't even nerfed in beta or launch. I started playing only after Orsinium and gamepad support and it wasn't even nerfed then. I could still sell that stuff for gold.
But, they killed that for no apparent reason, even though they said it was to stop farmers but it was never a very lucrative thing.
