Magblade destro/resto build suggested abilities on bar for PVE

Just hit cp160 yesterday and am re-specing to magika (was stamblade and it just was not working for me).

planning on running a destro lightning staff of shock on the front bar with a resto staff on the back bar....what abilities should I have on each bar for a solid build? Looking for good AoE siphoning & cc.

Also any suggestions on my cp points allocation would be greatly appreciated.

There's really no reason to run a resto staff on a MagBlade as your spammable(strife) has a self heal. The only reason to run a resto staff is if you plan on taking up the healer role in group content. I suggest 2 fire staves. I always point people to Alcast's builds as a starting point or to get an idea of a direction to go with their build. People call them "cookie-cutter" builds but it really is a great starting point.

thanks only problem I had using strife before is that it would not heal me enough

Running strife and its morphs as your spammable should keep you well healed. That's 3 or 4 uses in a single rotation. It's also a Heal-over-time, so while you may not notice the instant surge you get from other skills you are constantly gaining health.

I main a Magblade coming from sorcerer and one thing I can tell you to make it easier for you when you hit harder content - start practicing your weaving(a form of animationcanceling). Magblade is TOP tir dps but only if you get the weaving down, I'm still trying since I'm used to breeze on my sorcerer but I like the higher numbers from magblade when you get it right.

Other than that as someone said start with Alacast and switch out gear/skills if you want further down the road.

also any reason for fire staffs instead of lightning???? my GF mains a Sorc ans swears lightning is the way to go.

Huge difference between Stamina Strife and Magic. Yes, you want to use this on a Magblade.

Sorcerers get a boost to Lightening that Magblades dont. Also I can weave faster and easier with an Inferno Staff.

Fire staves offer more single target damage. They made changes to off-balance in a previous patch which moved the meta away from lightning. I still run lightning back-bar on my Sorc

cool.....dumb question: are fire based enemies (like fire atrinochs) less susceptible to fire damage etc?

Yes and No. You dont have a faster weave with inferno as you are still subject to the 1 second GCD on skills. Some people do seem to prefer one to the other, but I know people that prefer the way the lighting staff weaves. I like you prefer an inferno staff, but the weave is not actually faster.

Sorcs do have passives that boost shock damage so that is one reason a sorc does tend to run it. Also, more of a sorcs toolkit at least for a lot of builds is AOE damage (Curse, Pets, Liquid Lighting). Pet sorcs also like to heavy attack a lot, and lighting gives them really good splash damage.

NBs have more single target skills. Inferno staff boosts ST skills by 15%, so your light attacks, impales, Spectral bows, funnel healths, and crippling grasps are all going to hit harder with inferno. Most mageblades also run dark elf, which has a bigger boost to flame damage. Sorcs tend to go High Elf because they do more shock damage. All that said, non-pet sorcs building for pure single target will likely run a fire staff as well.

Also, agree with others. Unless you are going for some unusual solo feats (like trying to solo a vet dungeon), there is no good reason to run a resto staff on a NB in PVE unless you are the dedicated healer for your group. Funnel health is a ton of healing, you have a shield, and should probably consider running refreshing path (over twisting path) as the damage difference is tiny but the extra heal is huge. A good mageblade can replace a healer in most 4 man content.
