computer not authorized to log

usually i get a message asking for an access code very very rarely, maybe less than 4 times every year, but lately, in the last 4 to 5 days i've been asked every day for an access code to log in the game. i'm using exactly the same computer, hardware, software, drivers and even the internet service and router - nothing is changed at my end, still i'm now never authorized to log without an access code.

since i've been playing less this month because of work, i need to be faster to login just to keep my sales and fed my mounts. so, i really need to get rid of this access code thing - can i disable it? how can i do that?

I'm pretty sure you can't disable it. It's part of the way ZOS keeps your account safe (and protects them from a possible headache of fixing a stolen account), though it's admittedly annoying when you're logging in to the same account from the same setup.

    Two things could have changed:

    1. If you're connecting more than one device to your router, the client order may have changed thus giving your current device a different IP address than usual.
    2. A modem retrain or line disconnect can similarly change the credentials assigned to your primary device. You might never receive a notification or otherwise notice errors like that.

it got worse now. a few hours ago i got the same usual problem, it asked me for the access code for no reason at all, but this time i never received the email, so, this hideous system finally prevented me to access my account.

usually it takes a few minutes, but now it's taking a really long time for the email to arrive.

i'd really love to disable that annoying access code thing on start of the game :\

It's a problem for some. I get this about once every three weeks - sometimes my IP changes due to being on satellite; it
moves me from one beam to another. Since I no longer have a viable business, I can't get a dedicated IP addy. It's not a big issue for me, though I do *roll eyes* when it happens.

The most awesome benefit of this? Google never knows where I really am....

well... I received the email about 7 to 8 hours later and the code no longer worked. luckily i received a new one faster this time but now i'm going to sleep.

I tried to log into the support center to claim my "t-shirt discount code" earlier this evening and I got the typical unrecognized client error. I thought simple enough I will just get the code from my inbox and copy-paste it in. However the code I just received didn't work. So I tried it again typing it manually. Still no dice.

What's odd is that every time I tried I got an email baring the exact same code and message. A code that wouldn't be accepted no matter how I entered it. After about ~5 tries I just gave up and decided to again in 24 hours time. Disappointing really.

i'm in portugal and a static ip here is really hard to get and it costs a fortune. basically there are no users in portugal with a static ip, it usually changes every 24h. still, i'm using the same router, the same computer, the same system, the same account, the same everything. i only have this annoying problem with the ESO laucher, even steam knows that i'm the same user even on my no static ip.

anyway, i've been using the same internet connection since ESO beta, and this "not authorized to log" problem is recent.

well, at least today it was fast to receive the code :)

If zos is tying this to IP then that is a horrible idea. Plenty of other unique identifiers they can use other than public IP which is not guaranteed to stay the same.

I get it once every month or so. The send a text to my phone with the access code. Easy and I like having 2 factor identification.

I had a problem with this a few days ago. I switched servers and it prompted me for the access code which failed and after which I got stuck in a loop of being sent a new code each time I tried the one I'd just received. Eventually it locked the account for 10 minutes. I left it overnight and when I logged in the next day there was no prompt at all and I logged straight in. All very odd, I was left with the impression that there had been a glitch in the system and either they fixed it or pulled it.

I can't get a static IP over satellite without a business - which I retired from in 2007.... I'd really love for them to offer something like a mac addy option for those of us who can't have a static IP. My desktop is the ONLY machine I play from - the mac addy shouldn't change.

Sounds like this issue is affecting more then one person.

Maybe it's time to make them aware and submit a ticket.

    Ok. this too much now.

today I did a test. i left my computer and router on with the game launched on the login menu. the IP never changed, nothing changed, I didn't even shut down the computer or closed the game... still, after 8h I tried to login and it asked me for the access code.

this must be a bug or some problem at zos end, but they could just let us disable the damn code thing.

I don't think it is a ZOS error, or many others would be affected. It might be a problem with your Country code with the world web code, or something along those lines.

Most ISPs periodically change your IP address. Maybe yours is doing it everyday for some reason. Give them a call.

You may not have a static IP, but I hope your IP isn't changing every 24h. If it is, your ISP sucks. I'm in Portugal too and I hardly ever see an IP change - and I used to use services that required me to know my public-facing IP address. Right now my router up time is almost 10 days, I don't think they can change your IP without resetting/rebooting the router. I'd look for the reason for your problems elsewhere - either in the game or in your hardware.

A static IP address costs a fortune in any country. They are intended for business customers only.

Rather than wasting money on a static IP, give your ISP a call and ask them if your IP has been changed over the last week and how many times. If it has changed multiple times, ask them to fix the problem (that's not supposed to happen). If your IP isn't changing more frequently than usual (most ISPs change you IP every few weeks), contact ESO support.

i've been safe from this problem for a few weeks and in the last 2 days i've bombarded again with the "not authorized to log" bug.

we really should have an option to disable that.

I'm facing again this problem. I'm using always the same computer, with the same system, no new updates, same internet provider, same router, same everything... still, every single time I try to launch the game I forced to introduce the an Access Code.

We really need a way to disable this thing!
