Game crashes to login screen once an hour

I am on pc eu and I am wondering if anyone has the same problem around every hour, perhaps slightly less. It has been happening ever since the Halloween festival last year, when it was about every 15 minutes. I assumed at the time that it was due to so many players on at one time, but now I wonder if it is one of my add-ons. Does anyone else have the same problem? Has anyone managed to find out which add-on it is which is causing it?

Thanks.

I'm not having crashes. Check to make sure your graphics driver is up to date.

Not having the issue here, either. The suggestion to check your drivers is a good one, and yes, an addon could possibly cause it if it was severely out of date. Otherwise, its relatively unlikely, unless your addons are using a large amount of memory.

Having no idea what addons you're running or if they're updated, however... can't even begin to guess if one of them is your culprit.

I have read many threads about others having the same problem as us. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/421913/constant-disconnects/p1 is just one of them.

I am on PC on the NA server. I had the same problem as you and it resolved itself. ESO had been rock solid for me for over a year and then about a week ago it started kicking me to the login screen every 5 minutes or so. It seemed to happen when mounting, dismounting, opening chests or zoning into delves. My guess is that ESO changed their network code after Summerset and I was getting kicked due to some sort of packet overflow.

I spent a bunch of time with a support ticket and nothing that they suggested worked. Then all of a sudden the problem went away by itself... I'm guessing that the ESO programmers fixed some networking code on the NA server.

To be clear, my internal network and PC system stayed unchanged during the whole process so I know that the problem was not on my end.

About addons, disabling all addons was the very first thing I tried and it did not fix the problem.

It is really quick and easy to disable your addons though so you should try it and see if your problem goes away. Disabling addons probably won't help but it's so easy to do you should give it a try.

Most people, including myself, experience kicks to login screen with no error message every 15-30 mins since Summerset. Zeni released a fix for it in one of their incremental patches but it broke after 2 days, so far they haven't confirmed they're aware of this. You can try the following:

    -Disable all addons
-Add ESO as an exception to your antivirus and firewall
-Open the ports for ESO in your router
    -Run the game as admin
    -Disable IPv6

This is a bug on Zeni's side for the majority of people with this problem, so it's unlikely any of the above will work for you but you can try it anyway

I rarely get a kick to the login screen, although it has happened more since Summerset. Hours between them. Of course, I am also not playing in Cyrodiil.

I have to ask if y'all are farming materials a lot before it happens

Thanks for all the responses everyone. It happens in all sorts of different situations, from dungeons to doing nothing to loading character screens. I haven't seen any patterns, apart from it starting since the Halloween event.

I shall check out my graphics card and the anti virus, and see if that works.

Although on PC EU, I don't use addons, but my understanding is that you have to remove them rather than simply disable them in order to check whether they are a cause of any problem.

While checking drivers is a good idea, if you're using the latest ones or upgrading to them doesn't resolve anything, then it's also a good idea to roll back to drivers that worked for you previously.

The fact that you've had such problems since last year, albeit on a different scale, makes me wonder whether you're using Windows 10 and whether that is a factor? It certainly suggests that it is not specific to Summerset or the problems that have been reported since it was released only recently.

Has anything else been changed or updated (or failed to be updated) since those with this problem started to experience it? I'm thinking of things like voice chat software, for example.

Are you running anything in the background other than an anti-virus program and the standard Windows applications (I assume you're not trying to run the game with e.g. Linux)? It's possible that something running outside the game could be causing it to be interrupted.

Have you checked on your ISP forum to see whether anyone else is experiencing such problems whether with this game or some other game or program?

I have windows 8.1. I don't PvP. I have added it as an exception to my virus checker. I suspect that this might be the reason for it.

Maybe. Check your os version and make sure it’s 64 bit. I suspect it is, because you probably can’t even launch of it isn’t.

ESO is incredibly CPU bound, and their performance updates, especially the multi threading, require a modern CPU. If your PC is more than about 4 years old, consider a newer one.

If all above ok, check your RAM. I have found it works better with at least 12GB on Windows 10, I run 16GB RAM but the game doesn’t use that much. Windows is a hog and by the time everything loads, including your AV and other programs, can take 4GB ram not even counting ESO.

Regardless, if you have not refreshed your usersettings.ini file, you should. ZOS did a poor job with detection and tweaking this file on per PC basis when they made significant changes like moving to 64-bit client, so renaming it and letting it rebuild with default detections can clear up many issues.
    Here are the instructions:

EDIT: the instructions at the link say delete. I recommend renaming to .OLD or something, in case I need to revert back.

Its the game/server, u dont go from perfect gameing to lagg like this and back to perfect and so on if its on your end missing new drivers etc. the game is build on a really OLD game code from a game long before eso. that game did have same issues and same coder. cant belive zenimax did not check this eather before they started on the game.

Except that it's not affecting everyone, so maybe it's a network issue affecting certain routes to the server? Might be worth those having the problem sharing real world locations, ISPs, and trace routes.
