If you switched to High Elf or Dark Elf 3% at most depending on rotation, more if you use Force Pulse as spammable, less if you don't. Staff LA weaving, enchant and Elemental Blockade and Elemental Rage (ult) are the other things that will benefit. Note that racial passives stack with Elemental Expert CP so in practice they will account for a bit less as percentage. Ex. if you have 56 CP in Elemental Expert you already get 12% buff to elemental damage.

High Elf Elemental Talent would add another 4% on top of that, but the relative gain would be 116/112-1 or about 3.57%. Now analyze one of your parses and see how much those skills do as percentage of your damage. If they are 50% the bonus damage would be 1.75%. Also note that when playing with 1K or less recovery Magicka Mastery (-3% cost) beats Spell Charge (+9% recovery) in terms of sustain.

Dark Elf Destructive Ancestry would add another 7% (magicka NB uses double inferno setup) so you will earn 119/112-1 = 6.25% on your elemental damage, so roughly 3.13% if it's 50% of your damage. Dark Elf has 1% less magicka from racial passives but in practice it's less than that since it stacks with CP (+20% if > 300), Inner Light (+7%), Magicka Flood (+8%) and Undaunted Mettle (+6%). In trial evironment you may also have 100% up time on Warhorn 10% stat bonus. So that 1% difference will get thinned out to 1.61/1.60-1 or 0.63%. Since magicka has a higher multiplier and spell damage a lower one on magicka builds, the contribution towards damage will be about 4:3 after the 10.5 factor has been applied. So you'll lose only about 0.36% from that stat. This leaves out a ~2.75% net gain. But note Dark Elf has no sustain passives.

If you are in a trial group with perfect support and buffs, and you already do 45K+ self buffed on 6M dummy and you're going for record trial scores you may gain a little if you switched; otherwise you are better off staying with Breton for the extra sustain and resistance - in PvE incoming damage is mostly spell/elemental and 4K resistance is roughly 3.5-4% reduction depending on your gear resistance and CP allocation.

I’ll add that it depends on your build and skills. I have a magblade for group support that wears Master Architect and uses Soul Harvest as an Ultimate and Funnel Health as a spammable. The only attacks that would benefit from Dunmer or Altmer passives are light attacks and wall. For this character I believe Breton to be the best race.

My other magblade is built for pure DPS around force pulse with an Asylum staff and uses the destruction staff ultimate and Zaan monster set. Breton would be a few % behind my Altmer for this build, and Dunmer may actually be slightly better than Altmer (if you can sustain with Worm and Orbs).

@Asardes, you summed it up very nicely. Now in your opinion (which I would consider expert opinion) would you think it is viable for me to change my stamNB into a magNB without a race change? I'm currently a Redguard and have held out until I finally think the game should be called Elder Staves Online.

I hesitate a bit because I want to be able to roll into a stamNB again since I enjoy the playstyle and if they are able to self sustain health better again. I know its an L2P issue, but the curve can be steep and the new content favoring ranged doesn't help.

    Thank you!

If you're Redguard keep that char stamina and make another one for magicka; Redguard is probabably the best choice for any Stamina class due to excellent sustain and ATM the only race that can reliably sustain an ideal rotation w/o any HA due to Adrenaline Rush.

And I'm no expert in NB, especially magicka. I only took the numbers and crunched them in a rather crude fashion (ex. the 50% estimate as flame damage as percentage, which may be off quite a bit). There are many people that are more experienced overall and especially with the class and you can find many guides on forum and youtube.

In any case Knowing mechanics> Rotation> Gear> CP> Race so don't fret about the latter as the difference between Dark Elf, High Elf and Breton is minimal for magicka classes. For PvP even Argonian will be quite good, since having excellent sustain can go full damage. But I don't recommend using races w/o any magicka bonus since 10% missing stat is quite a big loss compared to 1% which is more than offset by other bonuses.

I needed a Dunmer for RP, and since my Breton Magblade was a duplicate of my Breton MagSorc it seemed like a cool idea to race change the magblade to the meta to see what all the fuss is about. It wasn't a big DPS change, maybe about 2-3% more DPS with the double inferno force pulse rotation. I figured as much beforehand since there are lots of other damage multipliers watering things down for the Nightblade.

Meta people say it doesn't matter, but all that extra spell resistance was kind of cool the way it stacked so high on a breton magblade. Overall I get a meh feeling from the change.
