Magicka DK vs Stam DK

Just thinking about switching from stam to magicka on my DK. But I realized, both are played as melee so what would be the advantage of playing magicka over stam?

There is no advantage to be completely blunt. Stamina DK just outclasses magicka DK. Atleast in a scene where both classes maximize their stats and use the best gear (sloads).

Also, I'm not saying that stamina dks are in that good of a spot. I'm only comparing it to magicka DK.

as a longtime stam DK that made the flip flop back and forth a few times I can help you out.

-healing: magicka DK has far and away better healing then stam dk, both passive and active. (flame lash provides healing, burning embers heals you, inhale and its morphs heals you, coagulated blood is a great magicka heal)

-identity: stam DK is almost exclusively comprised of skills OUTSIDE of DK skills (save volatile armor and perhaps 1-2 other utility skills) where as magicka DK gets full use of all of DK's class skills that are some of the (your opinion may vary) coolest looking skills in the game.

-buffs / utility / damage: engulfing flames is an untyped damage buff and sought after for max dps PvE runs. also some of the buffs / maigcka versions of ults effect your allies compared to stamina (magma shell proved a shield for allies, molten weapons buffs allies too) also magicka can easily run resto staff or other built in heals with no change and be decently viable, something stamina obviously cannot do.

My main is a Stam DK, and I've played a Mag DK as well. As noted above, most of the Stam DK skills are "meh" unless you're looking to tank. On the other hand, I found the Mag DK playstyle to be "clunky" and mechanical. It would make sense to me if DKs as a class got a buff to main stat ALWAYS tied to heavy armor - so you would be a real "battle mage" type slow moving hard to kill object. Unfortunately, that's not the case...

StamDK is my PVE main and MagDK is my PVP main. If you're looking to do just PVE I find stam funner and better. If you're looking for PVP go mag. If you're looking for both go Mag as it is still pretty fun to PVE with a magdk.

My magdk absolutely crushes in PVP and it's a blast to play.

LOL the hyperbole is real.

Mag DK has better healing, more class identity, and more reliable burst. Stam DK has better mobility, actual execute through weapon lines.

PvE: Both have comparable DPS. StamDK is a lot easier, but MagDK brings engulfing buff, though it can be ran by the tank.

PvP: MagDK has better healing and CCing, with higher potential damage, though in light. StamDK has better mobility, sustain and stronger damage in heavy.

I'd say MagDK is a bit stronger atm though.
