Morrowind free or not free I'm confused

So i'm probably pretty late on this.
But I've had this game since launch I got the special imperial edition and what not. I Enjoyed the game but always got bored playing alone.
So due to the steam sale on ESO right now i bought my boyfriend the game to play with me, it costed about $10.
He has the new class and morrowind, however i do NOT

I didn't seen morrowind on the eso store anymore but then looked in the crown store and i can buy it for $30

Is this intentional like when it disappeared/was replaced with Summerset i just figured it would work kind of like wow and the old one would be free to everybody or atleast only cost $5 - $10
It didn't make a lot of sense to me that new players could get all this stuff for $10 and id get shafted, because honestly its more cost effective for me to just buy a new copy.

Regardless I'm not here to complain about it its more i want clarification because Ive been having a hard time finding a clear cut answer.

Thanks in Advance

"Standard Edition - On Sale Now! $10.00
Includes The Elder Scrolls Online base game and the Morrowind® chapter.

Join over 10 million players in the award-winning online multiplayer RPG and experience an ever-expanding story set across Tamriel. Explore a rich, living world with friends or embark on a solo adventure – the choice is yours to make in a persistent Elder Scrolls world."

They are trying to bring in as many new players as possibles with deals and sales atm. They only included Morrowind for free when you were able to pre-order Summerset as far as I know. Then afterwards put the Chapter as DLC available in the Crown Store along with Collector Bonuses and Warden Class separately.

If you buy the base game now, it now includes Morrowind.

If you already owned the base game, you have to buy Morrowind zone as a separate DLC. Battlegrounds is base game and Warden is a separate upgrade.

If you had preordered Summerset, Morrowind chapter was Included free with that.

if I just started today, probably, only thing an new player might want to start early is jewelry crafting.
The quests are good but they can wait, you have a lot of other quests, the Psijic skill line is way easier after exploring the mainland, the trial is cp160+ pointless to do normal trials earlier.
So I would waited until you done some dungeon, played a bit in Kyne see if you will play regular or not before buying summerset. If endgame I say its worth it unless specialized like only PvP, progressing other trials or very causal.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

It was free if you pre ordered summerset, but if you didn't you need eso+ to play it

Your confusion may be because there are different deals as between Steam and ZOS. Your boyfriend is playing a Steam copy, you are not. You can't mix and match them.

Morrowind came with Summerset expansion if you preordered it so it was not actually free, but an actual preorder bonus.

Since then it has been split up. The zone is now a DLC, the new class is a separate purchase and BGs are in the base game.

Edit: Looking at Steam it does not look like the suggestion made by the previous posters is accurate. Morrwind on Steam does not have a purchase option which is likely due to it being moved to the crown store as I posted.

Steam is having a special sale on ESO currently, $10 total for base game including Morrowind.

Since you're not running the Steam version of the game, you'll have to purchase the Morrowind DLC separately.

Or you can subscribe to ESO+ and have access to the Morrowind DLC that way.

If you play on steam you should be able to purchase the standard issues for $10 like your boyfriend has, though it might take more effort.

    Just to try to clarify:

    • Last year, Morrowind (including the zone, Warden class, and Battleground pvp) came out as a "chapter", that you had to buy for $.

    • This year. to promo the Summerset chapter, if you pre-ordered Summerset, they gave you Morrowind as a bonus.

    • They then split Morrowind up into the zone (now a DLC, can be bought in crown store), the Warden class (bought in crown store), and Battlegrounds (included in the base game).

    • And finally, they added Morrowind to new purchases of the base game. So your boyfriend got this edition.

Your options are to buy Morrowind for crowns, or to subscribe to ESO+ (since this will give you access to all "DLC" while you're subscribed. Summerset, as a "chapter" that has to be bought for $ rather than crowns, is not included).

Thanks for all the clarification everyone.

I'm honestly thinking my best option is to just buy the steam deal version because, i don't have a whole lot of character progress i care about and all i lose is my horse and a few vanity items. Something i have to think about i guess, but i really appreciate all the info.

ESO+ is monthly is it not so, like if i buy it and start all the morrowind stuff the following month i don't re-up i'm assuming it will be disabled again right?

    Uh...

Okay, if you subscribe you get access to all of the DLC content, excluding Summerset. (Yes, I know it's a chapter, just roll with it.) If you unsub, you lose access to that stuff until you resub. This isn't terribly restrictive. You just can't enter those zones until you're resubed, but anything you get from running that content you keep, regardless.

If you buy a DLC, it unlocks for you, regardless of if you're subbed or not. If you subscribe, then let your sub lapse, you don't lose access to the specific pieces you've purchased.

So, the ESO+ fee isn't purchasing everything, it's a sub fee. Also, it throws you the full subscription fee in crowns back to you, so you can sub, and buy DLC with that money, if you want.
