So I'm sure a lot of you have listened to the guards talking about a book upstairs in the Royal Palace after finishing main quest and run up to see what's that about.
After reading the book and the message Darien Gautier - the Golden Knight left, I have a sneaky suspicion that Meridia will be the next big antagonist! What do you think of that? One of the 'benevolent' Daedric Prices, who helped us defeat Molag Bal and then sent Darien to help us turned out to only have used him for her own purposes! What could her plot be?

You are partial correct. Umaril was Meridia's champion. However, Meridia didn't launched the attacks on the temples of the Divines. Umaril himself did, using his Prince's power to command her own daedra. This is because Umaril seeked revenge on the gods for his original defeat.
