Let me preface this by saying that I only play stamblades. I have 6 character -- all stamblades -- so I don't know much about other classes other than what I see and hear in group and guild chat.
As someone who exclusively plays stamblades, I'm always on the hunt for daggers. I'm sure that has some impact on my perception but it seems daggers for stam sets have a far, far lower drop rate than any other weapon. Purely anecdotal, of course, but here are some of my observations.
- I've probably done 100ish Craglorn trials (SO, AA, and HRC)...mainly normal but some vet. In those dozens and dozens of trials, I have yet to see a dagger drop for anyone. That's a lot of people running a lot of trials but never a dagger. I see "desirable" staves drop almost every trial; to the point where people can't give them away. But not a single TFS or VO dagger seems extremely odd. (no need to discuss whether those weapons are worthwhile...just the fact that I have yet to see one drop in dozens of trials.
- I recently started farming a Sunderflame set. In the last few days, I've run CoA 27 times. About half were solo and half were grouped so I estimate I've had about 430 chances for a Sunderflame dagger (6 bosses, 4 players for half, 1 player for half, + chests) and have yet to pull one. And I need TWO. I have, however, pull more Burning Spellweave staves than I can give away to group members. Now, I realize that 27 runs of a dungeon isn't that extreme but the fact that other weapon types are dropping regularly makes me think daggers are designed to have a lower drop rate.
Is it just bad RNG or are daggers intentionally given a lower drop rate? I get that the devs love staves (the nickname Elder Staves Online is well earned!) and that they drop like mad but what's the deal with daggers?
