Should Imbue Weapon wait for Light Attack Damage Instance, or Light Attack Trigger?

In general, should it be a two step process, or a single step process?

1 step:
Activate ability, next Light Attack Damage instance is buffed.

2 step:
Activate ability, waits for a Light Attack Fire Event to occur.
Event occurs, next Light Attack Damage instance is buffed.

The single step allows for buffing of already in-flight projectile Light Attacks, while the 2 step causes only the next Light Attack to get buffed.

So currently on PTS is it 1 or 2?

Does it mean that weaving the traditional way of:

    Light attack, ability

Works with imbue? Meaning I don't need to awkwardly push imbue first, then light attack?

    It is currently 1.

Imbue then Light Attack rotations currently cause the ability to overlap and cause the first cast of said rotation to do nothing.

Interesting, this might explain why imbue was lower DPS than force pulse in my testing.

Just to confirm, if my rotation was: Heavy Attack > Imbue > Light Attack > Imbue > Light Attack then only the first light attack was getting the added damage? The 2nd imbue was overwriting the 1st imbue and applying to the 1st light attack?

If so this is a terrible design, the imbue should get attached to a light attack the moment the light attack is clicked.

I'm guessing this is also dependent on distance then, so distant enemies require light attack > imbue and near enemies require imbue > light attack (since projectile travel distance is short). This would result in an awkward transition if an enemy is moving toward you, where one imbue is missed.

Is combat metrics working on PTS yet? I need to test this.

    Is it possible to do:

Imbue, light attack, force pulse for a double strike gank?

Yes, in your rotation listed (HA->I->LA->I->LA), the First Imbue is overwritten if it was not preceded by a LA.

This is only an issue with Projectile based Light Attacks, and not with Melee Light Attacks. (Assumption is that melee resolves sooner). So distance probably plays a part.

Edit: Did some more testing, and it apparently can even happen with your Melee attacks too, if your rotations are good enough.

Yes. It is quite literally what this skill was made for. Pushing one GCD into that of another. Time Wizardry stuff.

You just have to be careful that when your attack hits the target (infernostaff/icestaff) it does so before the effect wears off (distance is a concern). As it isn't really imbuing your light attack, more like waiting for you to deal damage with a light attack.
