Idea: Players could be skill trainers for other players

You know how trainers work in the other games, right? You pay someone gold, and you gain a level in the skill they're teaching you. I believe a feature like this should be available in ESO and that Players should be able to provide this service to those who are less experienced.

Obviously the "pay someone gold and get an instant level" is way too easy for use in an MMO, but I think it might work if we made a few tweaks to it:
  1. Players can only train other players in a skill if they are over 5 levels higher in that skill than the trainee.
  2. It will work similar to researching traits, in that you activate it and a timer begins to tick down. The level will be granted upon completion of the timer.
  3. The time it takes for the trainee to gain a level is based on how high their current level is in that skill (i.e. those low in that skill will level faster, those higher in the skill will take longer to train).
  4. Trainers can train up to 3 characters at a time.
  5. Trainees may only receive training from 1 mentor at a time, and only for 1 skill at a time (i.e. If being taught Two Handed, must wait for training to finish before learning Dual Wielding).
  6. Timer will tick down faster if either of them has an XP buff, depending on how big the buff is, and will tick down even faster if both of them have a buff.

So, do you think a feature like this has a place in ESO? If not, what would you change about it?

    Knowledge? Is that you?

It really isn't that hard these days to earn skill experience at all and I am a below average player.

What new players really need is good information, or experienced players showing them builds, strategy, tactics and sharing helpful knowledge about the game in real life. They don't need a higher level toon charging them money so they can level a skill they can level in the same amount of time for free.

It would just be another method for scamming. We already have those who run with the gold via skyreach runs, vamp bites and WW bites. That would be a 4th method and ain't needed imo.

No, for the love of God, no.

How does this system make players better players? You might as well do dolmens and that is free.

I am fine with the current system in place, thank you.

A mentor system has been raised as an idea before, basically guilds have 'mentors' who get rewards for helping other players reach milestones, e.g. dps, hps, achievements, completions etc... which I thought was nice :)
@Sparr0w so I get the notification

I'd rather they, well, actually teach you.

People that could help others point out subtleties in rotations, etc, along with in-game feedback backing up the advice being given would be a worthy addition.

It could even provide achievements or daily rewards to the one giving the training. Could be a quest line to achieve a certain level / focus in trainer status. It would be something that would have to remain active to remain valid, not just a one-and-done type deal.

There needs to be more in-game feedback for a person beyond a final dummy parse # and load screen/level up recommendations.

That would require a bit more in depth knowledge of the inner workings that actual PC's could provide, since it would vary so much from patch to patch.

(Not to say the Dev's don't know their game - staying dead neutral on that one - but they're never going to break it down to the level that certain players will.)

EDIT: They could get 'paid' based on results provided. I could see this getting exploited, though, vs those that would genuinely want to help others improve. Would be a fine line to walk.

Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.
