When did u like ESO the most? [question for veterans]

Content was much better balanced in the pre-soft cap removal and pre-champ point days. Ultimate use being part of fight mechanics and dynamic in recharge rate was also far better. The soft caps allowed for dps's to have what would now be 30k health this allowed healing to be reactive to the situation as well as there was an actual health buffer to work with. Now the fights can be, what was it you said on eso live, fights of attrition? That is garbage design. You are supposed to die when you make a mistake. Not when RNJesus strikes you down with 3 randomly coinciding attacks or a bunch of sequential enemy CC's that paralyze you forever.

Part of things being better balanced was also that cheat engine was not in widespread use then. Another part was that a groups dps was not as wildly dependent on adding up 7 or 8 set and group buffs putting together a cross guild group for a late night vet run is just not worth the bother even if their were enough guilds left to try it. It is just shocking the differences in dps you now see between players who are doing similarly well on mechanics and have functional and rational builds.

If your not looking at the content balance but rather the balance of classes and resources DB and one tamriel were probably best. Ability and class balance was pretty good at that time. One Tamriel also was a great update for grouping and making all content relevant.

From both a class, resource, and content balance standpoint, Morriwind and everything post has been complete garbage. Everyone also hates the full heavy resource garbage that makes combat suck. It is amazing to me that now, a year post Morrowind, this stuff has not improved at all. If anything, it has become worse every update.

Lastly, from the standpoint of casual play and questing, the game has become better every update. Those teams do great work unlike he who shall remain nameless since I have been threatened with the ban hammer for talking about his poor quality work.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

The removal of softcaps also removed a huge layer of skilled gameplay. It was even more diverse back then since pushing the extremes (or procs) wasn't necessarily the best way to go.

Back before ZOS turned its back on the PvP community and you could actually have 100s of players on screen fighting with no lag.

@Yolokin_Swagonborn, I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was the guys using CE to get ahead that screwed that particular pooch for you. Oh, and the goldsellers zipping through walls. Cyrodiil performance took a serious hit when the anti-cheat systems started rolling out.

Server Side checks could have been a very big part of it but ZOS has never honestly leveled with the PvP community on why our whole experience was essentially destroyed.

Other game companies use Anti-cheat software such as VAC or Punkbuster but for some reason, ZOS refused to ban even blatant cheaters then allowed them to get right back in the game with a new account and a similar name (to save their own notoriety). It was simply disgusting behavior that could have been avoided had ZOS handled it differently.

This is a tough question to answer. I liked the game best when there was no cash shop and no gamble boxes. I liked it better when questing was still challenging and hadn't been hopelessly dumbed down. I liked it better when it still required a sub. I was happy about One Tamriel because it suddenly really expanded the game world and the number of people I could play with. Sadly this coincided with a lot of the things I don't like about the game today.

I've always had the interest in uniqueness. Now I can do.

I love the way how ESO went through all of this. It was not 'crap' for me though. But it's better and better. Love the way that we can manage to do almost every stuff with new starting friends.

Still hate the Skillbar cap. Could have use more skills there. But well. It's all good for me. And still hate those Crown Crates.

Becasue it was too difficult for average casual? They literally changed the game, so ppl of "low" skill could do everything and whenever they want. Thats BS, also not rewarding at all. But what can we do?

    Hard to judge.

I left soon after launch and only came back with Tamriel Unlimited. Had no income to support a mandatory sub at the time.

I loved the entire time between 1.6 and the launch of Imperial City, and did all the overland quests and a lot of Pledges during that period. Hated the IC days specifically other than IC itself as the patch added useless grinding for mats, and while I enjoyed Orsinium and Thieves Guild, the base game patches were more stale than ever.

I enjoyed the DB patch as Veteran Ranks were finally gone, but not DB itself too much.

Loved the One Tamriel patch, but not the Homestead one, as it complicated crafting. Morrowind had me leave the game for a while. Only came back after Clockwork City.

So, I guess my overall favorite time was the period between 1.6 up until 2.1.4 (IC patch). Not really in your categories. :)

    Listen at 18:12-18:32

This is how a lot of the content is.and then they went and made it all even easier! I can handle bugs upon release and we surely had them but mind numbingly easy..NO!

Truth is I remember when Joe did this vid and even though he had some good points I do feel some of his rage was a bit over the top on some. This game truly had some problems in the beginning so I'm not going to say it was all sunshine and rainbows. Hell I remember running to harvest alchemy stuff and looking at a players head under the ground plucking it before me, etc. I mainly miss the difficulty and hybrid builds.

It was the bugs and developer apathy that hurt 1.5, not the business model. ZOS had millions of people willing to pay them a subscription fee in the days where other games couldnt command that at all.

All they had to do was keep up with the content cycle they promised and address bugs quickly.

They couldn't do either. Things were left broken for months. Day 1 exploits that were reported in beta were launched with the game. None of this was the business model. All of it was poor management.

the sad part is that a good 99% of the MMOs Management is like this

then they wonder why their game failed or barely staying alive lol
i saw SOOOO MANY and i mean MANY mmos Fall because of this SAME thing its not even funny anymore....

What all the devs Fail to understand is this..
After the moment you launch an MMO the NUMBER 1 thing you need to do is:
Bug fixing and adding Content nonstop in a Timely manner
no matter how good your MMO game is if ANY of this 2 is ignored then your MMO will go downhill really fast to a point where its REALLY hard to come back from..

ZOS is FINALLY getting to some of the things they promised ages ago. Transmute crystals and jewelery crafting especially are things I am VERY happy about.

Before there were so many broken sets and OP exploits it was ridiculous. The grind for gear due to RNG made me not even want to try to get certain sets. Now at least I can get a gold item and not have it COMPLETELY worthless because it's in some stupid "Prosperous" trait.

I mean, I understand 1T, but overland is so easy now you can't even feel good about it, and immersion is basically dead. This is not groundbreaking news but I just rolled a new character and had to manually go to a starter zone instead of running through Vvardenfell for the 2nd time. I haven't been lurking the forums much lately and did not expect that to happen, so pretty disappointing.

But also: for me, it's not Elder Scrolls without DB.

If i could i'd select both launch -1.5 and 3.0 to now, during early access and the early times of the game are some of my fondest memories....10min AA runs, naked Hel Ra runs....it was a lot of fun but at the same time the fact that we could do that wasn't the best show of balance. I came back after CwC dropped and have been so pleased with the majority of the changes and the game feels much more developed now. I played a couple months after initial release. From August-September 2014 I think it was. I'm just now picking it up again four years later. I thought Cyrodiil was incredible. I was in DF faction and there was a well organized group of people using teamspeak that regularly played PVP every day. Seeing a little bit of teamwork and cooperation turn into game changing victories was so rewarding and fun.

The one glaring thing I remember disliking were the zerg groups that would stand ontop of each other and spam that one aoe destro ability all at once - it made me quit and kept me away for four years. Besides that, I had a great time.

One Tamriel destroyed a lot for me, while it had some interesting improvements to armor sets all over the game the removal of game difficulty, with the feeling off levels being pointless, and not really have any areas to look forward to unlocking just kind of made the game monotonous for me. From level 1 to 50 now is just kind of pointless and makes you feel like you're leveling down in strength most of the time, with the exception of unlocking passives and skills. I didn't like it then, and I still don't.

There was a period of time right before the console launch where the game seemed to be the most stable and balanced in most aspects. I do kinda miss the challenge Doshia and Mannimarco, as well as Molag Bal presented in those early days. And the veteran zones, where you were sent to other alliances after completing the main quest, were also more challenging. Shame they were so scarcely populated.

While I like that the world is opened up to everyone now it also has eliminated any and all challenge from the overworld content save for world bosses. Basically, in some ways I'm nostalgic about the early days when there were some challenges in the main quests and overworld. Lyris Doppleganger used to be a nightmare. Pretty much anytime one of those snake lady daedra were present I felt my stomach turn. Now they all feel ridiculously easy. Same with dolmens. I feel like they used to be events you actually needed other players to accomplish. Not sure how much of this is my skill as a player increasing with time and how much of it might just be how much they've nerfed them.

So true. I was proud to be able to kill Doshia on my 2nd attempt while so many people failed again and again. The challenging veteran overland content and quests I am missing completely now. There is literally no achievement when you share the same easy content with newbies wherever you go. Today I was healing some newbie players and even they said its no challenge (perhaps to my heals?). The cp increase per expansion makes the old content more and more obsolete.

Back in these days classes felt to had more identity and that your initial choice really does matter. I gladly would give away the possibility of frost staff tanking for class diversity.

    Now we have
    - AOE which is overwriting itself while you pay the resource cost.
    - The weird heavy attack mechanic for sustain.

But of course the later updates also brought many nice features with it. Its just that I don't find the game challenging anymore in regards of the solo content.
